    AVP VS DOOM

You're right too. Medal of honor - I played and liked that too, but when I dive into arguements about FPS' i never mention it. Weird. Maybe it's because I like a bit of story too. If it makes people feel better - I quite liked Doom the movie. So did the wife.

    AVP VS DOOM

Oh joy, a new dumbass troll for our amusement. Doom was never just a technical demo. It was conceived as the followup to Wolfenstein 3D from the very beginning. And you're going to have a really tough time backing up the "boring" argument considering its well-documented success. you are correct Wo-wo-wo. Yes, I know - the punishment for a glib remark (OWNED!!!111! I guess) - but I didn't like Wolfenstein either. The point was, to me, in my opinion, it still feels like a demo. The scaling wasn't particularly good. The textures weren't particularly good. To say it lacked depth is a cliche, sure, but honestly, I didn't think much of Doom overall. I wasn't trolling. Swear to god. I don't like FPS'. Simply because they are so boring. I list my favourite FPS as AvP, Golden Eye, Black and HL2. Maybe Halo - but Halo made me feel motion sick for some reason. Beyond these they make me feel claustrophobic or confined and I hate wandering around lost in grey mazes. Feeling forced to go back on myself. Doom was the epitome of claustrophobic pointless wandering. Well for me anyway. Alternatively - while AvP did involve some wandering about lost, the map was implemented well, which nagated that problem. The textures and the controls made the game feel airier and more free, and the overall feel was less hectic, more refined. Plus i always enjoyed the movies (aliens and predator) - so there is an emotional tie. Rebellion was UK developer, at the time AvP was also considered something of a technological achievement - so a certain amount of national pride. We Brits have to get it where we can these days! Last year I went back and tried to play a bunch of games that I was somewhat bigoted about. First on the list was Final Fantasy and some Japanese RPG's. After much squinting and straining, I eventually did like some Japanese RPGs. Next on the list was FPS'. FOr some reason I didn't include Golden Eye which I really did enjoy, and I played Black and HL2. Weirdly - I like Black better (its flaws were later pointed out to me) but I enjoyed them both - I then tried Doom again - but it didn't wash, I still thought it was rubbish. Although I completed AvP last year. Anyone will tell you - I always hated Doom and Wolfenstein. I always felts its popularity was down to Carmacks and Romeros personality, the fact the first bit of Doom was given away for free, as a demo, and plain old fashioned hysteria. Nothing more. It wasn't trolling. That's unfair.

Wrong! and you know who i am Hello Mate! Fancy meeting you here! You were a 3DO Fan boy before me - ergo - I'm the last! (An original copy of Station Invasion turned up today!) PS: Do you want to join the forum? It was set up today! see below!

You are more than welcome to come and bring your 3DO with you! We had one at JFUK a couple of years ago and always have more machines than just Jags. At the last show I brought my 7800, Jag + CD and Lynx but we also had at least one each of the following: ST, Falcon, Dreamcast, PC Engine, N64, Gamecube, DS, Nomad, 2600, Nuon, Virtual Boy, PS2, X-box and I may even have forgotten a few more! Now there is a thought - it's pretty far from the ultimate 3Do collection but I have some interesting games, about 200 and a lot Japanese imports that don't get seen so often if people don't mind...

That is splendid news indeed Is Jagfest open to anyone? The reason I ask is that, well, I'm 3DO Kid, probably the last 3DO Fanboy ever. Seriously. I am. Thing is, is that there isn't a 3DO Fest and lets face it - there isn't likely to be one either, would I be welcome? Just to have look-see? I have a Jaguar but my collection is seriously mediocre... That VR helmet - does it work? Are there games? Does it even light up? Or is it just a mock-up? I remember this being the darling of the early '90s gaming. It would be a treat to see it!
  6. Being Atari's last dismal failure? Precisely - it needs Battle Sphere! (In addition I remember the Jaguar "Fondly" - not just as a failure!)
  7. I think the Jag needs legendary games - BS fills that role nicely. Most people, and I've never played it, suggest that Battle Sphere at worst is 'good'. Perhaps a little, in some peoples eyes, over-hyped. But, IMHO, that is a good thing. Why? 5 years in the making? Multi-jag link-up? Limited supply? On a commercial failure of a console? Developers battling the odds against adversity? Good grief chaps - it's what gaming legends are made of surely? So what if its $500? The legend is free right? I think Nintendo and the like would chew off their privates for a game like this - why? It's the John Wayne of games, the Dick Whittington of games, it's a bonafied legend - plain and simple. It's make Mario look like nancy boy, Sonic for the kiddies, etc... it's mans-man of game. It's what the world needs. The Jags remembered for what? AvP? Tempest 2000? Checkered Flag? Oh and the ultra rare, multijag space battler Battle Sphere. If I had a copy - i'd cling on to for ever. I'd look at the box a couple of times year, smile like an idiot and put it back in the cupboard.

    AVP VS DOOM

Easy. AvP for the win! Doom is a technical demo that sprung legs. AvP stands out as having actually undergone some thought and care. Doom is/was boring.

http://www.jagfest.org/uk/JFK2007/index.shtml I'm quite keen on seeing this - is there anymore info? Will
  10. Thanks chaps. Your help is appreciated!
  11. It *will* work with your PAL Jag. You´re going to need a stepdown converter for the power supply, but apart from that, you´re ready to go. Thank you. Is it just 9v? The one I'm looking at doesn't have a power supply so I'll have to get one here in the UK! Will
  12. Hi there. Does anyone know if the JagCD unit will work in the UK on a PAL Jag? And what powersupply the JagCD needs? Your help is appreciated! Will
  13. As a fan of a platform ports may be a bad thing but in terms of shelf space they probably help you compete. They are cheap, easy to make and pad out the shelf nicely. Also, ports aren't too bad if done well. Its just a shame they rarely are. ...If I had been Atari way back 1993, I would have gone CD from the start. But then I don't really claim to know why they went cartidge in the first place.
  14. My first post. ...but I couldn't resist. I've done a fair bit of 3DO gaming (see the signature!) and only just started looking properly at the Jag. Yes. I know. For shame. However - It seems a pretty good system. And, IMHO, there is a, I guess, 'natural beauty' in the way it presents 2D graphics to the screen. I'm not sure about 3D. As others have mentioned Atari seemed to have been obsessed with convincing us the 64bit was the most important thing - when having a decent set of games should have been. ...that aside. There seems to be some gaping holes in the Jag line-up, but if I'm wrong - tell me. 1. It needed a decent RPG. 3DO made the same make mistake. It (3DO) had RPGs (a few) but didn't make a song and dance about them - despite the fact they were in fact pretty good. The Jag could have done a nice JPN style RPG. 2. A decent 3D driving game. PSX had Ridge. Sega Daytona, even 3DO had NFS. To come to the party without a good racer was a mistake. Chequered Flag is OK but, well, to love it takes more time than most reviewers would be willing to give it. (And it was too much like Virtua Racer for its own good!) 3. A good fighter. I guess at the time Capcom, Acclaim and SNK were all busy but it should have been a priority. 4. Atari should taken more advantage of the ability to port 68000 games and should have looked it the Atari back catelogue more carefully. 5. Tempest gave Jag a good 'retro gamer' friendly image - with 20/20 hindsight capitalising on that wouldn't have done any harm. erm... that's all i can think of. 3DO Kid.
