  1. Maybe 2 Sears version? The cart only listing mention pink label and green label. The only label variation I keep an eye is the white label (sometimes placed over original label).
  2. eBay Auction -- Item Number: 201109694654 Rather large lot of games
  3. If it is paid up and goes through, would that mean the new owner is also the new record holder? Especially if the new owner has some unique games not in the auction.
  4. Not sure if I'd want one stuck behind my 64 or even my 128D. I'd prefer a version with cable that i can mount anywhere. Nice design but built in user port connector for power is probably good for someone who don't plan to change SD card often, don't need to reset or change setting or something.
  5. RUN Magazine has a checker feature. A little ML code you load at the start, it pops the checksum number at each BASIC link that you can compare to the magazine and catch error every time. If you make a mistake, the odd are 1 in 256 the mistake would end up with same number so it's rare.
  6. Sky Attack looks like Tron game tank vs recognizer. A very low res version of the game Kevin was seen playing near the start of the 1982 movie.
  7. I still do it from time to time when I come across interesting program. Usually I get something out of RUN magazine. Once in a blue moon I find something interesting for a different computer, I try to hack translate it. The most difficult one was from an Apple II book on hires graphic (I can't remember the name but I wish I could) it had a few examples including one that generated moon surface like graphic using cosine. Similar to http://www.vb-helper.com/tut4.htm under spash section half way down. Then I went one step further and tweaked it to draw on a 400x400 area and fed the data to Commodore 1520 plotter. 7 hours to complete that one on top of nearly 2 hours of typing and modifying it. PS anyone remember the name of the book that had Apple II programming in hires graphic? Mostly black, oh over 1" thick, had one example graphic that looks like wire mesh (square type) hilly land with a pink wall to show line of sight, and explained in some part how to make it draw with respect to line of sight by not drawing what should be out of sight.
  8. fried RIOT chip? I don't have a Gemini schematic handy and the numbers and layout is quite different but I think the RIOT is the large chip on the lower right side. Check for broken traces. If there are no broken trace, you could try desoldering the chip, adding a socket (to make swapping easy) and installing a good RIOT chip from another 2600. I'm pretty sure Coleco kept the pinout the same.
  9. OK with all those stuff, it's confusing which one would be ideal for me. I loved games like Bard's Tales and some of AD&D games. Some of those disks have gone bad and are copyprotected in original form (usually mutilated sector as it can't be copied) but the downloaded images are cracked. Which SD drive would be ideal for me or am I better off with cheaper SD2IEC and copying to blank good disks? My copy of Fast Hack'em 5 is still good. (other games I like to play aren't copy-protected but I need to re-copy disk 1 of Ultima 5, the original one I got is coming up with "drive not ready" error right away and my backup either won't load or loads and then crash) Another issues to look out: if you don't have JiffyDOS in both system and in disk drive(s), the games will load slow as heck off disk drives. Do the SD drives get much better speed or is it still the same as a real 1541? If it's much better, I might just stick to running games off SD cards. I know SD2IEC has built in JiffyDOS and would be faster if I buy the chip for my 128D.
  10. Definitly a standard ROM cart with EPROM support. You could probably burn some cart ROM onto EPROM and use it on a real C64. If you do have EPROM programmer, see if you can dump it and post it? The whiz could probably compare to known ROM list to see if it's a form of fast load, DOS wedges, or newer or custom BASIC or something.
  11. Speaking of Tetris lawsuit, had that not happened do you think we'd have an official Tetris game for the Lynx? A true arcade style 2 players via ComLynx?
  12. Checked it (since I found a 1541-II locally), it does not fit so I will need 1571 for sure. I did check that Sears link, they wanted $15 shipping at the cheapest. A broken disk drive is a lot cheaper!!!
  13. So the new controller has flat metallic disc rather than polished shiny disc? If it's the same shape and style physically, one can probably swap the disc just for the shiny-ness
  14. Today was a good day for me. I never believed in Friday the 13th curse like some do and it paid off. The 1541-II was $1.49 by itself and worth it for spare parts even if it doesn't work. The rest of the games were bundled with the monitor, I suspect it should have been included with the 128D I got a while ago. Now to find a power supply to test that 1541-II.
  15. Wouldn't it be cheaper to use a more modern parts to make a full replacement power supply? A fuse and switch (optional, many people uses power strips these day that already have switch) on primary side of a basic transformer that step down from mains to 9v AC, full wave rectifier, caps to filter out ripples after rectifier, and a 5v DC-DC converter. On the 9VAC one could build a crowbar circuit that blows fuse and shuts down the power supply if something goes wrong. With good components this could costs about the same as the saver but outlast any Commodore made C=64 power supply.
  16. Yes in Cloudy Mountain, the blob and dragons (both winged and non-winged) are magenta colored.
  17. Mattel created 2 AD&D games for Intellivision under license from TSR. Those 2 games have been reissued in recent compilations under different names to avoid copyright or licensing issues like Nintendo DS (named something like minotaur and cloudy mountains. Are those 2 games on the new Intellivision system under alternate names? Or do I need to keep my Nintendo DS game a while longer?

    Still alive!

Now if only candle would show up with his progress on LCD replacement. Last I heard he had some issues with his programmer.
  19. Looking at the keyboard schematic, column 18 deals with 4 of those keys. If C, F, and X are working, I'd guess there's a break in the circuit trace between F and R/T key. If the C, F, and X are not working, I'd look at the wire connecting to the keyboard circuit. http://personalpages.tds.net/~rcarlsen/cbm/c128dcr/keyboard%20open.jpg shows what it looks like. Maybe something got spilled in at one time and the spilled fluid has eaten through the trace? Taking it apart is a whole lotta screws though.
  20. Caps made around 2000 were especially bad: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capacitor_plague But failures are not just to faulty caps but also age. They usually dry out or otherwise wear out. Many of the game consoles that are suffering are often over 25 years old. This would be a decent guide about the caps: http://console5.com/wiki/Identifying_Bad_Capacitors and here's a decent article about aging caps http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/300392-28-capacitor-aging
  21. Seems they have 2 different parts for 1541-II and none for 1571. I still need to see if those are interchangeable or not.
  22. Like this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/190596379150 ? It seems that if unit is white, it's from VGA to composite/S-Video and if it's black it goes the other way around. It also takes VGA in. I'll grab this one first and see if it works and if so, to see if the C128's RGB can be connected to VGA in or if I'd still need to scan double it.
  23. While cleaning my 128D that I got recently, I took a closer look and noticed the crack goes almost all the way around so it may not be an easy fix. There's only about 2mm space between both end of the crack and it probably won't survive if I reinsert into the 1571 shaft. I would like a replacement lever from a "spare part" 128D you may have laying around. I don't know if the stand alone 1571 or 1541-II will also fit. In USA, will pay PP gift, need just one. <--- like this but without the crack
  24. Shipping to Rylos won't be cheap. Not everyone has access to the star car. You might want to specify where you live as C64 isn't that rare but it's still not cheap to ship mostly because of the size.
  25. Trying to remember this C64 game. It was a strategy type game, like Shadowgate for NES. I can only remember a couple puzzles and solutions: in one room you had to start a fire in the fireplace to reveal a hidden item. In another scene you had to lead an animal (horse? mule? cow?) to a treadmill so it'd walk on it and start turning the belts and gears to get something inside running.
