  1. --> Stan - It's unlikely I'll get around to making an AA version. However, you can download the .doc file and modify the version that's already there. It should be pretty simple to remove the DP logo and add the AA logo. If I can, I'll get an AA version posted. Steve
  2. Oopps. I included the sentence-ending period in the url-link. Sorry. Try it now. Steve
  3. Hi guys & gals! Inspired by a conversation going on at Digital Press, I whipped up a nametag in MS Word for forum participants to wear at PhillyClassic this weekend. It's got the Digital Press logo, and a spot for your screen name as well as a spot for your real-life name. If anybody wants to print one out and wear it to the show, you can get it from the main page of my not-quite-finished-yet webpage - http://64.81.193.244. See y'all at the show! --Steve [ 04-24-2002: Message edited by: Steve Jacobs ]
  4. My brother & I will be there, but I can't get there until late Friday (hopefully by 9pm). Saturday we'll be returning with my son, Nate! (15months) How much will SCSIcide cost? I already plan on buying a Sean Kelly 5200 multicart & Protector SE. I wonder if I should just sell my car (or Nate?) and get it over with already. As for D&B -- Dave & Buster's? If so, my wife & I visited the Nyack Dave & Buster's once a couple of years ago. It looked neat, but the hostess was so rude, arrogant and offensive we left before we were ever seated. Other than that, I've never been, and have strong feelings to not give them any of my money. Steve [ 04-23-2002: Message edited by: Steve Jacobs ]
  5. After work yesterday I buzzed to the mall to see if I could find any cheap good Dreamcast games I don't have yet. I was debating an $18 Gigawing when I saw a used-but-still-decent-looking Shenmue II (UK) import for $40. I shouldn't have, but I spent the money and took it home. I've played Rez (love it), so I already have the Utopia 1.1 boot disc, allowing me to play non-US games on my US Dreamcast. Shenmue II is 4-discs, however. When the game gets to the point where I need to change discs, how will that work? More importantly - WILL it work? Steve
  6. I can probably take a pic tonight of a good one - it would be .jpg, but I can go as high as 1152x768. Would that be helpful? Steve
  7. I've got 2 5200 2-ports. I've had one since they were new in 1982, and the other since picking it up at a neighbor's garage sale approximately 1985 or 1986. One was used a few months ago, and the other probably hasn't been used in years. All the same, until the Dreamcast the 5200 was my all-time favorite system, and I'm not going to just get rid of them. BUT, I've never had (or even seen) a 4-port model. I suspect the 4-ports are harder to come by, but judging from the traffic on these boards it seems there are a bunch of 4-ports floating about. Assuming I test mine and make sure it works, would anybody here be interested in trading a 4-port for one of my 2 ports? To avoid shipping these monsters, I could meet you at NAVA or PhillyClassic and make the swap there. Let me know if you're interested, Steve
  8. DOB: 9/18/1968 -- 33yrs old. I don't remember what my first console was, but I can describe it a little bit. It sounds like bangles66 may have had the same unit. It was a Pong system; I have no idea who made it. It included gun games, but my Mom took the gun and we never were permitted to use it. The console's finish and styling had a lot of silver and chrome, and it looked VERY sleek and futuristic for the time. (Early 70's). The 2 controllers were rectangular, with chrome-ball-topped sliders postioned in the middle, sliding length-wise atop the controller. The controllers could be used hand-held, or they could be used in these cool storage slots built into the console itself. There was an area of the console cut out of each of the 2 corners nearest the players (farthest from the TV). The cut-outs were diagonals from the corners toward the middle of the case. The controllers' cords connected to the console at the deep end of the cutouts. It was a really cool system. Then, in 1977 we got an Atari VCS, which I still have and used recently to play QB! Eventually I obtained several VCS/2600s. My brother, friends and I got to be experts at propping up the correct # of cartridges under the AC Adapter jack to permit a good connection. Nowadays I have nobody to play games with , and I have much difficulty finding time to use my awesome Dreamcast. Oh well. Steve

  10. Well, last night I played with the emulator for a little while on my Dreamcast, and it is very cool. Here's where I've ended up: * I can't get Frogger or Popeye to work, at all. Does it in fact work for anybody? * Not having fully figured out the controller /keyboard mappings, I don't know what keys are used for the 5200 controller keypad. After trying a few different things out, I began playing my old favorite Miner 2049'er. On level 3, with the elevators, I discovered that I couldn't use the elevators because the different keys didn't all work. From floor 1 I pressed 2, and nothing happened. I then tried 3, and was transported to level 3. I then pressed 4 (DOH!!) and restarted the game. In Miner 2049'er, is there a way to begin a new game without resetting the Atari? Of course, the final result of all this is a renewed motivation to finally do an AV mod on one of my 5200s! The joy of playing the 5200 without RF static was unexpected and delightful. To think that I could play those games using the crystal-clear Dreamcast S-Video connection! I can't wait to find the time to do the job. Steve
  11. Late last night I returned to the website mentioned in the post above. There was a new link, this time to Yahoo Groups. I joined the referenced group, downloaded the 5200.zip file, and unsubscribed from the group. SO, I have the right file. I then proceeded to burn the CD and try it out. Whaddayaknow, it worked! Yay. Problem is, I couldn't figure out what key/button was START, and the rest of the buttons I was guessing as I went. (& yes, I do have the keyboard.) The neat bit is that it looks as though the one disc has all of the 8-bits on it, not just the 5200. I guess I'll have to find more time later on to mess around with it. Once I do though, maybe I'll finally devote the necessary time to beating Miner 2049er. Back when it was new, I never managed to get past one of the later screens. Steve Steve
  12. I must be incredibly dense this morning. I cannot seem to find the 5200 emulator. I looked on both of the sites you mentioned, Gunstar, feeling stupid for not thinking to check there first. However, I didn't find the 5200 emu on either. So, has anybody found/downloaded the 5200 emulator mentioned in the original post of this thread? Thanks, Steve
  13. So how do we get to the files? Steve
  14. Well, for the 3rd year in a row you'll see me there! And, there's a good possibility of seeing my brother with me (at the show for the first time), and the hit of the fest last year, Nathan! (Nate is my 14 month old son.) I've got to say though, considering the demands of a 3-month old would have been a wise choice on my part last year. As I couldn't really put him down, I was never able to free my hands and actually play anything! Nate was completely wide-eyed in wonder last year. This year, he's already a jaded Senior-citizen and I'm sure he'll just take it all in stride. And if any of you even think of buying any of the goodies I want before I have the chance, so help me you better give me both of the give-away X-Boxes!!! See you in April, Steve
  15. I just looked at the 'web site comments' boards for the first time, and I have a few comments, each of which may have already been covered in the past; if so, sorry : 1) Currently, the Digital Press boards use Ez-board, and don't play well with Opera 5.12. AA, otoh, works just fine with Opera. I think it's important you maintain that compatibility. Whenever I want to post something at DP I need to copy the URL, launch IE, and then paste the URL into IE. It's a pain and discourages me from posting (which I guess may be viewed as a positive by some). 2) I assume I simply can't find the configuration option, but if there is in fact no way to set your local time zone, the new message board should include that as a feature. IE, it's 12:49pm Eastern Time right now (where I am). It looks to me like all timestamps on posted messages are Central Time. There ought to be a way to configure things (as an option) so that when I am logged in to the board, all message timestamps are displayed adjusted for my timezone. Steve...not sure he's explaining this clearly...
  16. I'd love to go to all of the various shows, but unfortunately I can't, due to all of the constraints already mentioned. I've always felt that it was unfortunate, but 'them's the breaks'. I'd also like to have Battlesphere Gold, but again, it's out of my reach. Life goes on. I think it's insensitive to criticize people who are unable to attend for one reason or another, but were people really criticizing fest organizers and developers for the situation??!?!?! That's unbelievably self-centered and immature! What I think would be best, taking as a given that there is to be an exclusive product for show-attendees, is to have a slightly different product available after the show, available to all, perhaps through Hozer. I think QB had a different label after PhillyClassic, IIRC Songbird had a special JagFest version of something (a Lynx game, maybe) with a special splash screen, etc... This provides those in attendance with a limited-run-special-edition sort of item, while the rest of us still get to enjoy the game/whatever. Of course, if this isn't possible, GODDAMNIT, I think every CGE, CinciClassic, PhillyClassic, JagFest, EuroJagFest, etc... from now on BETTER BE HELD WITHIN 60 MINUTES FROM MY HOUSE, OR ELSE!!! Steve
  17. quote: Originally posted by Gunstar: ..... I was thinking of doing this for the Jaguar anyway, because Battlesphere supports analog controls! But I love the control scheme of the procontroller best with Battlesphere and I haven't wanted to permanently mod one when they are so expensive. A standard Jag pad is a different story, but also different control scheme with BS... HUH??!!?!? How would that work? I've been away from JI2 for a while now, and the *.atari newsgroups have been pretty dead for a long time; I haven't heard anything about that. Of course, I haven't spent much time with Battlesphere either. When it arrived I enthusiastically began to play it. Sadly, the 12 yr. old JVC 20" attached to my Jag just wasn't up to the task. I really sucked, and eventually learned that hidden invisibly in the large black regions of the screen were various indicators that are actually colored navy-blue. On my TV, they aren't bright enough to be seen. So, I haven't played the game in a while. Are analog controls available in a menu? And how would that work? Have the Scatalogic guys ever indicated what kind of input the game expects? Steve ...as an aside, I built a couple of little-blue-boxes a few years ago that convert Genesis pads into 7800 controllers with 2 distinct fire buttons. They work well. Of course, I spent longer fabricating the devices than actually using them. I never really liked the 7800 that much, but making the adapters was a fun way to kill a Saturday afternoon.
  18. Andrew - I'm a little bit confused. As far as I understood, I've ordered a copy of QB and sent in payment, but the cart hasn't been assembled yet, and naturally hasn't shipped yet. Assuming that's accurate, I'd think you can simply wait for the new boards to arrive, and assemble the cartridge with the good chip once it arrives. Other than an extra few days waiting, I'd think this wouldn't harm me or others still waiting for the shipment in any other way. As for your increase in costs, in no way is this meant to belittle, discard, or minimize them in any way, but wouldn't the only extra cost for the above scenario be the extra boards/printing? There wouldn't be extra packaging/shipping/PayPal charges involved. Is everything I've written so far correct? At any rate, about how much extra are the replacement boards/docs? I don't know what's involved, but maybe you could set up an Amazon Honor system account or something similar to collect donations to help offset the loss. I use Trillian (www.trillian.cc) avidly and they accept donations -it's freeware - via an Amazon Honor System payment. There was also a Sept. 11 Fund that accepted Amazon payments that way. As far as my order goes (#86), of course I still want it, I'm willing to chip in to help your finances, and I can wait patiently. Hell, I waited 3 or 4 years for Battlesphere and never griped about that. Steve
  19. Thanks a bunch Mitch. That seems so simple, I feel pretty dumb about now. Thanks all the same, Steve
  20. Ivan Neville - If My Friends Could See Me Now John Mayer - Room For Squares (2 Cd Drives in the PC) Steve
  21. I can't believe I can't find this info online, but is there an S-Video mod for the 5200 anywhere online? I keep finding the composite video mod, but if I'm going to the trouble anyway I'd just as soon do S-Video instead for the improved pic quality. In an unrelated vein, if anyone is going to the NAVA show tomorrow PM, I'll be there. Thanks, Steve ...finding it hard to type with a band-aided index finger...
