  1. I've been spending my time trying to find successful patterns, but so far only have a perfect pattern for the first half of the first board. Giving me tips like these only improves my chances of competing with you! But in the spirit of sportsmanship, THANKS. I can use all the help I can get, and I certainly appreciate the advice.
  2. FYI: QuickBASIC 4.5 download: http://www.qbcafe.net/qbc/english/download/compiler/qbasic_compiler.shtml Mods - I'm pretty sure this is legit, and not 'warez'. If I'm wrong and there is anything verboten about this, delete the link with my blessings.
  3. Damn! I can barely hit 13k, and you guys are like Energizer bunnies, going and going and going.... I envy your skills!
  4. AARRGGGHHHH! My left thumb knuckle is going to HATE you!!!! Man, with a margin that slim, I think I want a recount.
  5. I love Koffe and Adventure II. I met you at a PhillyClassic years ago and you were a nice guy. But this is my first chance in a really, really long time to be in first place for one of these contests, so don't think you'll get any slack from me! Plus, I've already been responsible for so many squooshed frogs I'm creating traffic problems on the freeway and have animal protection leagues pursuing me. I've really got to keep these frogs alive!
  6. There isn't a 'loss of' self-centering. Rather, the sticks were never designed to have self-centering in the first place. BUT, the rubber boot around the stick does provide a bit of self-centering tendency. Some boots are stiffer than others from what I've read online. Honestly, the self-centering issue never bothered me and I've never noticed any difference among the boots. I got a 5200 while they were new, and almost immediately got used to the controller, so I don't think about it. Loss of connectivity in flex circuits - there isn't a sudden loss of conductivity. This is a gradual thing, but fast process. I.e., if the controller works it isn't likely to spontaneously fail while you're engaged in a game. More likely, if the controller is sitting on a shelf for a few days the buttons won't work when next you hook it up to use it. Even if the controller is brand new. You can clean the circuits and they'll work again for however long, maybe a few weeks/months. Or you can replace them with the far superior revisions from Best Electronics. Analog sticks - I've NEVER experienced a failure of the analog sticks. And I've been enjoying my 5200 since around '82 or '83. In that time I've amassed easily over a dozen of the standard joysticks. The pots don't fail, and the sticks don't jump out of the rails on their own. The only difficulty involving the rails is that of reassembling the sticks. The first couple of times you take a stick apart to repair/replace the flex circuit, you will have a difficult time putting the stick back together so that the pots line up with the rails properly. Fire buttons - these use the same flex circuit as the rest of the buttons, and suffer the same problems.
  7. 10,080 I took a pic, but I'm too lazy to upload it right now. If anybody wants to see it, I can upload the pic later.
  8. When emulation fails, true hardware prevails...NEVER FEAR, the 5200 is HERE! 1386 Shoot! For once I thought I had first place in the bag!
  9. Hmmm.... I'm feeling too lazy to hook up the 5200. Considering you guys' responses above, I assume I won't be able to play with the mouse and emulation. I wonder how the Stelladapter may work with paddle controllers though. I'll see, and post back shortly.
  10. I'm stuck playing this in an emulator. I'd bet it would be easier with the 5200 Trak Ball. Still, I scored 123,734.
  11. SONOFA#$%^&*#@( !!!!!!! I forgot to enter this past round. ARGH!!!
  12. I don't know if I'll keep playing further tonight, but my best so far is: 10,980
  13. I never really cared for this game in the arcade, and just played it for the first time tonight on the 5200. Like was mentioned above, I find the game repetitive and dull. Nevertheless, I've got a score for the competition - 293,800.
  14. You didn't add my score to the final results! Am I vanishing into nothingness, like Geordi did on ST:TNG? Can anyone hear me??? Seriously, I assume you just missed my post somehow, but I'd like it if you could revise the standings to include me. Thanks, Steve
  15. Finally managed to find some time to give this a shot. (Have to skip the Indianapolis game, but life's full of tough choices!) Pulled off 21,078. Still a couple of hours left to improve, but that's my high so far.
  16. I received my Juno First about a week ago, and finally got a chance to play it for the first time this morning. I hd a lot of fun with it, but after a little while my hand began cramping up and I took a break. My highest attained score was about 49,000, I think. Very cool game!
