Season 2 5200 HSC Round 6 *Satan's Hollow*

Man, I'm just not very good at this game. I managed to break 40k a few minutes ago, and that's the best I'm going to achieve this round. Put a notch up there for me, with 43,000. -
Sheesh - Of the choices, I don't like Congo Bongo much, absolutely despise Vanguard, find Pole Position a bit boring and dated, and am completely unfamiliar with James Bond 007 and Preppie! So I picked Bond.

I noticed that as well, and thought you got more allowed shots on-screen on higher levels, but I wasn't sure. -

Uggh. First night playing this round - 12,500 Tried using a new (to me, from a garage sale last weekend) MS Sidewinder 2 joystick. My next attempt will be with my trusty CX-40. -
I find it difficult to find the explanation of the scoring when I want to look it up. I believe I found it here: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?s...t&p=1627121 I think you ought to add the information there to the 'Rules' post (message 1 of this thread), so it's easier to find. Thanks, Steve

35,700 And I think that's going to be my best score for this round! This was a fun one, but I think I'm done. -

I just gave this a shot (No, I didn't - keep reading!) on my Latitude, using Atari800Win Plus. I'm at a brickwall, and I figured I'd see if I managed to improve my score when using a CX-40 and an emulator, instead of the stock controllers on the big old 5200. With the CX-40 plugged in to a Stelladaptor, I can't manage to play the game. I configured a800Win+ to read the controller in port 2, and can move, but I cannot fire. In Windows control panel, game controllers, the fire button tests perfectly fine. Those of you playing this in an emulator, how are you doing it? Thanks -
I chose H.e.r.o. I'd have picked Satan's Hollow, but mine locks up frequently, and it's unrealistic to think I'd manage to go through 3 or 4 waves without needing to reset the machine. I'm using a Repro cart - might have been from CPUWIZ ? I think I bought it at a Philly Classic one year. Is there a different version of the game for the 5200 that doesn't suffer this problem? Maybe I could use the newer version in an emulator, assuming the ROMs available.

Season 2 5200 HSC Round 5 *Wizard Of Wor*

31,500. Doctor Clu - Granted, your score is nearly 6x mine, so I'm glad to defer to your advice, but I've been having success when I remember to try and fire shots down 'major thoroughfares', so to speak, while the wizard is on the prowl. Many times he'll appear in or travel through the path of the bullet when I do that. -

I suddenly improved as soon as I finished the previous post. My current best is 23,800. And now I need to hit the sack before the sun rises... -

Considering my scores, I'm beginning to think I haven't played this since I used to visit a friend decades ago to play it on his Bally Astrocade! Given my best score so far, I'm far too lazy to take a photo, but you can chalk me up for an astounding 10,700 (!!!) points. -
Season 2 5200 HSC Round 3 *Miner 2049er*

All week I was using an emulator and a CX-40 with my all-time favorite accesory, Joe Grand's magnificent Stelladaptor! BUT, my palm and fingers were getting sore. Yesterday afternoon I hooked up my 5200 and began playing with a real 5200 controller. I was more comfortable, had a much easier time getting *to* Stage 5, and had no controller troubles at all. I can only blame my own lack of skill for my troubles. If any of you are looking to hire a computer geek in the Northern NJ area that is very skilled with networking, Windows and AD, a little bit knowledgeable concerning Linux, and at a level that will make YOU look really good (in comparison) at videogames, contact me! -

Just got 26,270. It's barely more than I scored previously, and I'm feeling lazy so I didn't bother uploading the screenshot. If I do better before the deadline I'll post another screenshot. -
The entire numeric keypad is one rubber membrane keypad - i.e., it's one single part for all 12 buttons. The Start/Pause/Reset strip is a separate rubber strip, but again, the three buttons are all one single part. The left two fire buttons are one part, and the right two fire buttons are one part (but they are identical - you don't need to order 1 left, and 1 right).

Slowly (very slowly) but surely I'm getting better at this. I just managed to break 25,000. I guess the only extra life is 10,000. Bummer. Once back in high school I played this at a friend's house on his 5200. At the time I was dying to get the game myself, but it was only available mail-order & I didn't trust mail-order back then. I never saw it retail anywhere! Enough small talk though! Currently, I'm at 25,015. -

Managed to get to Zone 1, Station 5 tonight. Hopefully I'll improve within the next few days, but I can't imagine becoming competitive with some of you! -
I'll have to give that a shot then, thanks. BTW, I've got an old school-issue all-in-one Mac that we don't use for anything anymore. ( http://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/...57606632761920/ ) I'd have to clear it with my wife, but I'm pretty sure I can dispose of it. Let me know if you'd like it for your collection. I'm in NJ, so depending on where you are in NY, maybe we could meet and you could take it off my hands.

This is somewhat offtopic, but last summer I was given a broken PS2. I managed to fix it and have been enjoying it ever since. BUT, I'm compulsive about the aesthetic appearance of my electronics, and the PS2 has the previous owner's name written in large, sloppy letters, across the top of the console, in some sort of silver ink or paint. I haven't tried to remove it yet, but have been considering using GooGone ever since I was given the system. (I'm compulsive, but I also procrastinate. The end result is I spend a very long time fixated and obsessed on an issue before I actually do anything about it!)
-
Not that I already didn't know several times over, but that statement makes it pretty clear that you have no idea of the complexity of this piece of hardware. Remo - In all honesty, I am NOT trying to be a jerk or instigate anything here, but I also thought this item is simply a 7800 fitted into the VCS adapter case, and engineered to tap the power coming from the 5200. (And also the A/V lines, if it supports RF use?) I certainly wouldn't have the skills to mimic the original 7800 board onto a new board that was shaped and sized for the different enclosure, but conceptually the whole thing doesn't seem all that complicated to me. What am I overlooking? (Again, I'm sincerely curious, not trying to stir anything up.)
-
I think that looks extremely cool, and I'd love one. I have a couple of nitpicks, though: 1) Controller - I'd keep my stock controllers. Fortunately, it seems that's perfectly possible with the unit. 2) Paint job - I don't like the giant '5200' painted on the top. I loved the silver, and like the blue as well. Love the menu, the built-in multicart, support for BBSB (which I've never played), and the reduced size. All in all, very nice!
-
This sounds pretty neat. I'd love to see some screenshots if you've got any.

If you haven't got any of those games, I'd expect the DP store would be happy to let you bring your system in, and test it with one of their copies of the games, assuming they've got those games on-hand. (Obviously I can't speak for them, of course.) OR, if you ever go to the NAVA meets, PM or email me prior to the next one you plan to attend. I usually go to the gatherings, and I'll bring along my 5200 multicart and let you use it to test your system.
