  1. I like 'em. They look sort of classy. They remind me of those Lego "Architecture" boxes, compared to standard Lego packaging. And I think it's okay if the pixel-art isn't immediately recognizable: It can be appreciated on more than one level. The only thing I'm not wild about is the color assortment when they are displayed side-by-side. But individually the colors look great. This would be good art for some kind of special-edition set.

  2. Admittedly, going back to this old post...I have not used the Tron stick yet. Afraid to! It is so pretty and considering the new Tron Movie finally came out, makes it rather special.

I don't blame ya. I bet it makes a good display piece.

  3. Yea I like Solar Storm a lot. Moonsweeper too. Demon Attack is overrated IMO.

I hear what you're saying but Demon Attack is like Adventure in that it was groundbreaking at the time of it's release. Nowadays it gets lost in a sea of later releases like Phoenix etc. But when it came out Space Invaders was the standard. And looking at Demon Attack it was amazing because the demons didn't march in grid formation. They were dodging around and splitting in half and there were new kinds showing up in later waves and they're so colorful... Wow. That's how I remember it anyway.

  4. whats the best imagic game :?

Demon Attack is a classic and arguably the best of the early Imagic games. I haven't dug into all the later releases. Tell ya what though, I gave Wing War a good try in emulation and liked it alot! I think that one was PAL only, which is too bad.

  5. Slap paste on the back, Jack

    Make a new seal, Neil

You don't have to use gloss, Hoss

    Just label your game.

Brush glue on the cart, Bart

It don't need to be fine art

Drip sap on the frame, James

    And label your game.

  6. IMO, a nice addition to the AtariAge rarity guide/game database would be a popular rating for each game, similar to what the IMDb uses:

    http://m.imdb.com/title/tt1104001/

I know these things are easier said than done, but I've found the IMDb ratings to be helpful. They seem more objective than individual reviews (even if I don't always agree w the results). Anyone else have thoughts on this?

  7. When I finally got my Atari, the game I wanted the most was Defender. As far as new releases, the game I had the most anticipation for was Pitfall II. It was the only Atari game my mom bought for me on the day of its release. They were sold out and she ended up buying me the cartridge they had in their in-store console to demo the game. The store didn't take off any money for it being "used" either.

Yes, I remember anxiously awaiting the release of Defender as well. It was hard to imagine what the Atari version would be like. When I got the game, I was not disappointed! I think I had moved on to other things (like Colecovision) by the time Pitfall II came along.

Friends of mine had Pitfall! Kaboom! and Demon Attack back in the day... I admired them (the friends and the games) but never owned the games myself.

  8. Nine seems a little high considering how many there seem to be floating around and how cheaply they can be obtained these days.

Heh heh... Waterworld carts... floating around... Good one.

  9. Yeah, they did show some love to some Atari 2600 games. What really sucks is to see that the Atari 2600 got 3 of the top 50 worst games of all time. Custer's Revenge I can see, and E.T. because of those huge holes, but Montezuma's Revenge? That is an all time classic. They also had Track N' Field at a top 50 bad game. Today's gamers have absolutely no respect for the all time classics.

Montezuma's Revenge is absolutely a great game! It probably made the list based on the funny name.

  10. I bet it was an old-inventory (black picture label) Yars cart that got new stickers when Atari switched to red labels. They probably had a bunch of old carts that needed to ship with new packaging.

It can't be an old one since it uses the Atari Corp. shell with the holes in it.

Oh well, I see now that I was basically restating an earlier comment anyway (apologies to OldAtarian, above).

Maybe there's a way to "see through" the top label without peeling it? I suppose a CT scan would be impractical.
