Hadn't thought of that! Makes sense, though I like the idea of using vintage (2600 era) sticks.

Bamboo steamer? j/k

Some games under a new light.........
Ranthulfr replied to iwan-iwanowitsch-goratschin's topic in Atari 2600
Nice. That sign looks like new. But with the Warner reference I guess it's vintage. -
I've wondered about the wireless controllers too. Are they ANY less responsive than the standard wired sticks? They look kind of bulky - are they comfortable to use?

Did the 2600 have its own Lara Croft or Samus Aran?
Ranthulfr replied to ComputerSpaceFan's topic in Atari 2600
It's curious that Wabbit shows a lady with red hair on the box front, a blonde on the back, and a brunette in the screen shot. But why not: Add my vote for Billie Sue as the 2600's Lara Croft! -
Nice article. I hope your game is a huge success.

Not exactly a secret, but one of the treasures in 2600 Venture is a key from Adventure.
-
Actually I think a decent 2600 Dragon's Lair-inspired game could be done - it just wouldn't look like the arcade game. I'm trying to imagine what the gameplay of Fonz would be like. You'd have to use the power of cool, I guess.

Space Ace (Atari Dogs beat me to Dragon's Lair)?

Awesome. Was an easter egg previously rumored to exist in the game? This needs to be added to the Picnic profile.

Applying the Adventure Territory art to an Adventure II box was a clever idea. What a vision of loveliness that game would have been behind the glass counter.

Oh snap! I didn't think of that! I have only made it to the second galaxy once that I can recall. That game is BRUTAL! I agree - Gravitar is the first game I thought about when I read the original post. It is interesting and frustrating at the same time. Another tough one is Jr Pac Man. Its difficult but for some reason it doesn't seem as vexing.

Maybe the plush pony secretly contains the key to a safe-deposit box, and in that box an Air Raid cart awaits. That'd be a happy ending. Unless decades passed before you discovered the key... Then it would be kind of bittersweet.

Deans Foods using Atari Font to market to our generation?
Ranthulfr replied to StanJr's topic in Atari 2600
Yes, in "Cultured Sour Cream" you are a bacteria culture that must convert regular cream into the soured variety. The follow-up game, "Low Fat Yogurt", was unreleased due to the crash of '83. -
Gyruss sounds like a good game... I'd give it a chance. Sorcerer has some rough edges but I agree that it is kind of interesting.

Secret Quest has good electronic-sounding music and effects. The sonic blaster has an especially nice kick to it.

I voted for Design #1. And as for the front of the shirt, what if you made the Atari Age info large and centered? I was never a huge fan of the printed front t-shirt pocket style.

Interest check - Atari issued 2600 cartridges
Ranthulfr replied to Curt Vendel's topic in Atari 2600
I would find this idea much more enticing if Atari released a *new* 2600 game port in cartridge form. Maybe Gauntlet or Red Baron or Paperboy, or something like that. -
If the stick is in good working condition I'd say you got a *great* deal.
-
Great, thanks for the info guys. DP has some good interviews.

Probably spelled that way to emphasize how "Advanced" it was for its time.

... is it Mr. Nolan Bushnell himself? I mean, officially, probably not. I realize Warlords was released after Warner took over (at least I think it was). But there is a resemblance, don't you think?

Itinerary from 1983 US Atari Centipede Championship
Ranthulfr replied to Scrabbler15's topic in Atari 2600
So the contest was at the insect zoo? How cool is that. The whole thing sounds like fun. But on the other hand, I'm not so great at Centipede, so reading these as if I were the recipient is kind of anxiety-inducing. -
Are small lines from my 2600 on the TV screen normal?
Ranthulfr replied to SpendTooMuchOnAtari's topic in Atari 2600
I think the lines you describe are normal and show up on some games more than others. Ah, that's not grumpy - just a little harmless self-entertainment..! The part about turning into old men might not be too far off though. (probably applies to me anyway)
