When I watched the director's cut of Blade Runner it had been years since I'd seen the original movie and all the Atari references took me by suprise. I figure they were tied to the point that society had devolved and immediate gratification was the rule of the day. The Atari stuff was just a small part of it though.

This is a different question on the same topic:
When I try to use the Insert Images button or the Insert Media button the dialogue box that pops up hangs off the left side of my monitor and I can't move it. So I have to use the "Attachments > Attach This File" feature instead. Can anyone 'splain what I'm doing wrong? Thanks.

The Swordquest Airworld WIP ROM maybe? Or is Airworld a taboo subject?
BTW For some reason the "Pancake Boy" audio keeps spontaneously playing as I look through this thread.

What about the silver and red labels?
I'm guessing silver labels hit the scene in early 1983.
Edit: Although if the Atari Age database says 1982 I wouldn't argue.

How about quicksand that is invisible but you slow down when you walk onto it..? Then you have to keep moving, because if you pause you sink!

CDs are just something to store software on. Cartridges for some reason are more like a physical product. They're more toy-like, if you will. That's a good thing. And it seems to follow Nintendo's marketing strategy better.
Another thing is that waiting for downloads or switching CDs can be a distraction from the game.

Oh yeah.

I was under the impression that the black manuals were the originals. Did Atari switch to the white manuals when they went to picture-label carts?
-
Looks like the ghosts were re-imagined as robots for that cartridge.

Wait... Those little holes in the top... It was just a fancy salt shaker all along!!

You might like Montezuma's Revenge. It's got multiple rooms and a quest theme, and it's fun.

The Atari2600.com guide and the Video Game Trader iPhone app both show how average prices are trending. I can't say how the recession has affected things though, except that discretionary spending is obviously down.

I'm not sure that I would have the patience for Pong nowadays. But when they were new, those Pong-ish TV games like Tennis, Squash, and even the dreaded 1-player "Practice" sure seemed like fun.

I didn't know there are "classic game-related" geo-caches.
Maybe there aren't any... I dunno... But if there are or have been it would be interesting to hear about them.

Pretty nifty. Might some of these have doubled as magazine back-cover ads? A few look vaguely familiar, like the Stampede layout.
-
I haven't heard of it either, unless we're talking about carts for different systems - like an Atari 2600 vs a Gameboy cart. Of course, minor differences wouldn't be suprising in that case.

I checked estarland. Pretty cool site, but they did not have any sneak n' peaks new. So whatever stock they had it is apparent they ran out.

Aww, now that's a bummer because:
1. It was cool that eStarland had it new, and
2. The timing of them running out of new stock makes me look like the horse's patoot!
I'm certain that they recently had Sneak n Peek NIB though, 'cause I purchased one.

I noticed that one of the bottom, inside flaps of my Secret Quest box bears the tiny words "FAITH LUCK". I wonder what influenced someone to print those words there? Maybe it was the printer's creed or something.
Has anyone else found other box or label curiosities? I'm not talking about label variations... I'm talking about odd things that make you smile, or scratch your head, or have some deeper meaning.

...and Super Baseball is available new from Best Electronics.
The availability of "new old stock" isn't the same as general rarity I suppose, seeing as some common games are relatively hard to find "new". Adventure comes to mind. But it seems like it should be a factor in the general rarity rating.
Ironically, my only recollection of 2600 Popeye "in the wild" was when I found an empty Popeye box in a thrift store - no cartridge. I guess a person's random luck (good or bad) can influence their perception of a game's rarity. Good thing we have these forums to keep us in check.

Last night my wife was watching a TV show with a plot that involved geo-caching, where people hide stuff for others to find using GPS devices, etc. That got me wondering if anyone has ever participated in classic game-related geo-caching. Has anyone ever aquired a classic gaming item in this way? I'd love to hear about it (though not really interested in participating)... Thanks.

That would make a nice wall poster.

I have my self one of them old atari clone system with a few games. Well no i think its time to get me the offical system them one of the 2600 clones some odd reson i just liek the offical stuff better.
The clone systems are cool too though... I guess ya want what ya never had. The Gemini has a certain appeal with its unique look and combo controllers. I've never actually played one though.

What's your favorite paddle compatable game?

I suppose my favorite paddle game is Kaboom. I've never been a huge Warlords fanatic, although it's alright. Could be that it's at its best with four human players. I seem to recall playing against the computer, mostly.
This brings up an interesting point: I really haven't tried any new paddle games recently. I need to make sure I have a healthy set of paddles and go on a paddle game spree, like farquh. The later releases are the ones I'd be most interested in.
