  1. Personally I'd like to see more sellers include an UNOPENED MINT with their games. Having fresh breath really enhances the gaming experience.
  2. Visually there is not much difference between the A and B difficulty settings. But you can tell a difference by touching the buttons. On one setting they are a little loose when you push in on them and on the other setting they resist pressure a little more. Off hand I'm not sure if loose=A, resist=B or if loose=B, resist=A.
  3. Okay, it seems that when you start the game, the left cafeteria room (known throughout the kingdom for its excellent yeast rolls, by the way) flickers with only one object present. After you unlock the green castle the room no longer flickers with only one object, but it still flickers when only two are present. I haven't had a chance to determine what event, if any, eliminates the unexpected flicker altogether. Also, the square tends to be dark green in most empty rooms, but in the left cafeteria room it appears light green. Maybe there is a light green object located off-screen? Maybe it ate too many yeast rolls?
  4. That is a good theory but aren't there usually 3 objects in a room before the flicker effect (er, I mean "good magic") kicks in? So in the Adv2 room two unseen objects would have to be present. I could be mistaken... Maybe the unexpected Adv2 flicker is there as a decoy... to throw you off in the room where the dot is actually hidden. Or maybe there is another hidden surprise in the game.
  5. If you leave the gold castle and go two rooms down and one room left, that room flickers with only one object present. And if you use the bridge to pass through the top of that same room you will emerge in front of the green/hedge castle. Randy
  6. I was on a mission. And for a few hours I felt like a kid again. So THANK YOU Curt!
  7. It was basically Adventure 2 that clenched my decision to purchase the Flashback 2. I figure it's probably the closest thing to an official 2600 Adventure sequel we will see; Something that I hoped for as a kid. I was pleased with it... If the original Adventure had a "Game 4" option (and more memory) it might have been something like this. The dragons all seem like they're amped up a notch. The bat is peskier than ever. I finished the game Wednesday night and had a great time. PS: CV&TSTTWR!!!!!!!!
  8. The contest is over - much thanks to those who participated! I can honestly say that I enjoyed each of the entries and I'm sure others did as well. It is interesting to note how each strip has it's own unique personality. I really laughed my socks off at a couple of these. Because there were only five entries the selection of the winner came down to a rolling of the die. I assigned a number 1-5 to each of the participants and the number six was designated "roll again". The official contest die received a nice, unbiased, random toss and the winner is: Jack "Atari Troll" Kortkamp Congratulations Jack, please email me your shipping information and I will send you your game. Your enthusiasm in the contest was appreciated (though it did not influence the outcome in any way)! Thanks again everyone!
  9. If Superman made it to market in '79 then I would have to go with that as my favorite game from the 70's. It is listed as 'coming soon' or something like that in the 1979 catalog. Otherwise my favorite game might actually be Breakout.
  10. I agree that some of the most popular and successful Atari games reflect that concept: Space Invaders, Pitfall and Demon Attack to name a few (I haven't been able to master those anyway - but that's not saying much). You definitely have a point there.
  11. I prefer the look of the Atari 2600 woodgrains but then again emotion might be clouding my judgement.
  12. The Intellivision comparison ads featuring George Plimpton seem to be well remembered even today. And the 'Get N or Get Out' Nintendo line was clever.
  13. Bet you could make a cool pair of cuff links out of a couple of those Atari disc caps.
  14. Old favorites: Adventure Superman Haunted House Demon Attack Pitfall New favorites: Mountain King Secret Quest HERO

Beans and rice makes a decent meal for cheap.
  16. Just a reminder: The contest ends tomorrow at 6PM EST. There is still time to make your comic strip and email it before the deadline. There are still only a few entries so those who enter should have a fair shot at the prize. I will announce the winner tomorrow before 8PM EST.
  17. Can you identify a common characteristic shared by your favorite Atari 2600 games? Lately I've realized that my favorite games offer something unexpected in later rounds. I like knowing that there is something new to discover if I keep advancing, even if it's just a new color scheme.
  18. I like that Spider-man is hyphenated because it implies "part spider - part man".
  19. One week left in the comic strip contest! Once the deadline has passed I will roll a die to choose the winner from my six favorite entries. Even if you're not the cartooning type, perhaps you have a funny observation about classic gaming that you could jot down along with some stick figures. It doesn't matter if you make your comic strip in five minutes with a crayon on the back of a napkin - this contest needs YOU! This could be an easy way for someone to get a boxed copy of Star Wars: The Arcade Game for the 2600, listed in the Atari Age Rarity Guide as a 5-rare. According to the guide it is the rarest of the four released Star Wars titles for the 2600!!
  20. Okay, I've set up a page for the entries. Keep those cards and letters coming. Click here to view Comic Strip Contest Entries
  21. I wonder if anyone's ever carried the Superman wallet while wearing the Mash shirt and the Pitfall backpack? Seriously that's a nifty item. As far as how it was packed with the Superman game, it seems like packing it inside the box would have been the most practical (less bulky and more pilfer-resistant).
  22. I received two contest entries today including yours, Atari Troll. I am very pleased to see the comics starting to roll in! Now I can't wait to see what inextremis staple, Big Player, and Gateway come up with (and I know there must be others lurking out there). I will try to get the comic strips together on a web page soon.
  23. I really like the laid-back mechanical music of Secret Quest. Bloops and bleeps never sounded so sweet!
  24. Krytol: Thanks for your support. I hope this means you will be participating! Gateway: Sorry you had trouble with the link... It is just a basic "mailto" link so I'm not sure why it would do that. Maybe one of the tech people around here can offer an explanation. When I click on it a new email opens addressed to [email protected] Anyway, this is day 2 and there are no entries so far. Good! Eveyone must be carefully planning their comic strip.
