  1. hey thanks for the links... I found these along time ago when I was working on my sega after burner..but for some reason couldn't find them as of late...thanks again for all of your help... now on to the sound problem on chase(or lack there of)..schematic should help a bunch

  2. here is just a little update on my progress. went through the whole machine last night (chase hq) and found two pins on the monitor harness that were completely gone. made a new harness for it a [email protected] we have color. now all i have to do is get the sound working. All I hear through the speaker when I turn them up is a hum, no sounds what so ever. other than that the the game works great....not bad for $20 well plus $3.00 in caps for the monitor. I also did some research on my sega thunder blade. I guess only the u.s version of the game was encrypted and people dumped the rom info. I read that you can replace the mc 68000 processor and then reburn the chips. well I have a spare 68000 and a chip burner now all I need is the files...right?? anyone ever done this.....

  3. Your video problem on Chase HQ could be a dirty or corroded edge connector or still bad wiring. What I'd do if I were in your situation is, with the harness connected, use an ohm meter from the green pin on the edge connector to the green pin at the monitor connector and measure the resistance. It should be very low -- like .02 ohms or less. Then do the same for red and blue. If you get the same reading then, since you tried it on another monitor with the same result to eliminate the monitor as the cause, there is no problem between the PCB and the monitor and the problem lies with the PCB. If you get very different readings, then the edge connector is probably dirty or the harness isn't making good contact, or some wiring is faulty.

If there is no problem with the connections, then hunting down the schematics will help. There are a series of resistors, transistors and other components between the video RAM and the color pins on the PCB's edge connector. The problem is probably in there somewhere. Since it's two colors that are bad, I would look for a single part that involves red and blue but not green. If there is no such part, I'd guess it's a transistor type that is prone to failure and two of them have gone bad, or perhaps a couple of caps that have dried out or gotten broken.

thanks for the info ...I started doing just that last night but didn't get very far as I happened to find one ceramic cap marked "B 181" that was broken not sure what the rating is on the cap though...any ideas? maybe 181 uf..but at what voltage I notice most of them are either 12v or 25v... thanks

  4. hey everyone, I just bought a sega thunder blade, taito chase hq and a ramtek clean sweep for $62. here is what I have found so far ....chase hq ..rebuilt the monitor works fine (little burn) got the game to play but it has no color ...I plugged it in to one of my sony pvm monitors as well to make sure it wasn't the monitor...no such luck ..nothing but green.. checked all of the wiring seems solid.. also has no sound..all controls work great and other than the fact that the game is green and has no sound it plays fine. anyone ever run into this problem?any suggestions?....next is sega thunder blade...suicide chip killed its self need a working board ..also seems to be missing a gear for the the x axis pot. on the joystick. anyone know where I can get a working board and gear?....lastly clean sweep probably won't do anything with this game but I figured the b&w monitor is worth the $20. if anyone is in albany ny area and wants to pickup some games cheap let me know and I can get you an email address or I'll even be the go between. one that stuck out in my mind was a crusin usa for $600. but he has a lot more games for much cheaper prices.

  5. Are there any places out here that will do custom artwork for you anymore? I was going to start two Countertop projects and was hoping for some custom artwork.

if you want to do the art work yourself you could probably do it in like paintshop pro, photoshop, or corel and bring it to a sign shop and have them print it on vinyl and then put a clear vinyl over top. its strong and will last a good long time under normal use. going rate for the vinyl is about $20 per ft, printed. you could probably even have them install it if you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself. most good sign companies will give instructions on how to install if you ask. or if you are not artistically inclined have someone else do the art work and then take it to the sign co....hope this helps

  6. Nope, as stated on the site, all art is NOS or quality silkscreened repros printed by others where noted. I don't print stuff... not sure why ya thought I did. :|

I just got some more NOS items in stock, now listed and many pictured. Take a look. More comin each week.

hey just checked out your page..nice stuff.. It is a very simular story to my own. except that I mostly repair and restore pinballs. but I also do arcades, redemption machines, jukeboxes. slot machines, vending machines, you know that kind of stuff. you sound like you have a good handle on a good number of machines. may I use you for info if a problem arrises? I will do the same for you.....ps excelent job on the burger time

  7. Hi,

I have a faulty pcb that I'm looking to replace. It's a modded pcb to play "Breakout Pro", with different types of brick walls. But there are a couple of things that do not work (scoring, sound when hitting the wall, ball is displayed twice). Most of it appears to come from one chip. Also, the big cap appears ready to explode

    Cheers,

    Marco

the cap ready ready to go boom is seems to be a common thing with this board. I have had to replace it on two seperate boards. well the one extra board I have does not score but if you are in a pinch and can't find one somewhere else then I could find the chip and replace it. in the mean time you my want to consider replacing the cap and see id that clears up any of the problems

  8. do you have the game and looking to replace a non working pcb? because I have one that works...well mostly... one of the counters is screwed up so it doesn't keep score. I know which chip it is I just never got around to replacing it because I got another board for the game. I have actually thought about getting rid of this game several times but never did because the cabinet is in such perfect shape.

  9. not really my bag but I was wondering if anyone is interested in a Kung Fu (1985) disc for the commodore 64? I used to have the system back in the day and I found it packed with my stuff from when I was younger. any offers welcome

  10. well I would say that you would probably do your self some good by giving your monitor a cap kit. next .. the control for briteness is just for that. I will make the picture briter but will not do anything to the color intensity. you my want to look up what kind of monitor( make and model) and look up the manual for it....and lastly just as a reminder.....monitor have some crazy f&*$ing voltage going through them so be very careful and stay as far away as possible from the tube.

  11. I have a few links never had much luck in the area though I have classicoverlays.com and phoenix arcade this place http://www.melrose-nl.com/labels-arcade.ht...e=googleadwords and I know of another place or 2 that sell parts but this is all I have really found. I’m looking for Asteroids Deluxe, Contra, and After Burner side art. These are the main ones I don't think the After Burner upright side art exists anywhere. I’m in the process of restoring a Mario Brothers wide body found one place with the CPO so far and I have seen the side art around don't remember were though.

just found the sega afterburner restorers wet dream of a sight....here it is ...enjoy

    found some good stuff here

  13. Sorry about all the typos in there...I am a clumsy typist most of the time.

It's pretty badazz that you are undertaking the bulk of the project yourself. NOT an easy task. I've put old VWs back together (though I wouldn't call it restoration. More like a fun driver), and even as simple as they are, they have their quirks... and there is always something to give you a hard time. Some pain in the ass part to find...bolts that are rusted on...wiring that you can't figure out. You should post pics in the odd topic forum!

yeah I'll post some pics. I have to say its been fun so far. I built an auto rotisserie and a body lift for it. so I am able to lift the body off the chassis and spin it around by my self...very handy

after burner was such a great game ...I kick myself daily for selling it... I will search around and see what I can come up with

  15. No you aren't dork and redneck,

You're an enthusiast who has managed to make his hobby provide and income, which is something EVERYONE dreams about.

If you are doing a ground up restoration (and not farming the work out to a bunch of shops... although I DO hope that if you are rfarming work out, that you are doing some work on it yourself), then I bow to you, as your mechanical skills are greater than mine (although I can hold my own). Mechanics is a very broad, and logical application. More or less universal: Yup, it's a car...I understand how this thing goes together, comes apart, and how to save moen yby fixing it myself. It isn't redneck, it's sensible.

I am not farming out any of the work. I pretty much took the project on because I want to make everything my own. don't think I could trust any one else to do the job up to my standards. thanks for the kind words

  16. sometimes when I get dragged into a conversation with someone somehow or another my interests and hobbies come up and I feel the need to tell them about fixing and building arcades, making custom arcades, and my star wars collecting habbits....and then I feel like the biggest tool in the world ...

    I don't feel like a tool...I feel white and nerdy! :D

thanks for the link I love that video...makes me laugh every time I see it

  17. Just remind them how cool Pac Man is. I would not go to the chip level conversation but simply that you like to fix old arcades; you know, like the pinball machines? (that part'll get em thinking you dont mean Playstation) Even if they don't completely get what your're talking about they have an idea. I don't think the car thing is bad :) Frankly, anybody you want on your team for the long haul is going to be interested or at least tolerant of your interests.

If your goals are of a much shorter nature ( ) then maybe discuss how much you make as a ***** (enter your fake occupation here ) :)

thanks for the response CN. I don't really need to impress girls or anything (i'm a married man) but I work as an mechanical engineer for Albany Medical Center and am surrounded by very attractive women all day (or night). I guess sometimes I hear myself talk about fixing things and think to myself wow I really sound like a tech dork. BTW where in VA are you? prior to this job I was a graphics designer for the pentagon, lived in arlington and worked out of crystal city

  18. Okay, how difficult is that to install if I cant find one on the monitor?

find your incoming power for the monitor and trace it back and see what it leads to if it leads to a small transformer that is not supplying power to anything else then you are golden. if not then this may be your problem. be careful though as you may have read on some of the topics in this forum the monitor packs a MIGHTY punch.

also check to see if the iso x-former is attached to the monitor chassis. I have seen this done a couple of times.

ifyou find that you 100% do not have an iso x-former then have no fear they are easy to install. just need to tap into you ac power, after the power switch, line filter and fuse.
