I remember both of the series (the pac-man and asteroids). I look at them today and wonder, "How did I consider that fun?" And yet they were! They still are. I can't remember if I won anything, but I have to work to pay bills so I'm certain I didn't win much. Remember when McDonald's was called out for rigging the Monopoly games somehow? I wonder if these games were rigged...

Oh come on! Of course you're going to lose steam on interests. It happens to everyone. If you really feel that you need confession or penance on this Good Friday, go see a priest! :D

I'll suggest one that might, at first, seem silly. I think PONG was done better than the original Yeah, it was the same game. But just being able to play real Pong at home made it much better than the original!

I suppose I am not quite sure what "depth" means. I remember feeling particularly impressed by Raiders of The Lost Ark. Even today, I would consider it as having "depth" of a sorts. If you mean a backstory, then perhaps SwordQuest is the better example.

I had one of these. Blagh! I didn't care for it. Sorry.

what's the best 2600 joystick controller you ever had
tcv replied to Electric T V's topic in Atari 2600
Here Here! Epyx 500XJ rocks! Oh jeez! I rarely EVER post here and I just had to come up to say this: I _LOVED_ the Epyx 500XJ, but most places I mentioned it reacted with scorn and ridicule! I think it was the only joy"stick" that felt comfortable to me. I liked the original VCS ones, but jammin' the Epyx on C64 games was awesome. -
Guys, I have zero talent in this area. So, just chalk me up on the list of fans who desperately want to see this. Good luck! M

That was YOU?! YOU BASTARD!

25th Anniversary of Pac-Man (Atari 2600 VCS Version)
tcv replied to Kit Carson's topic in Atari 2600
Unfortunately, I do remember being disappointed by Pac-Man for the 2600. As a kid, it was hard to be disappointed by many games, but this was one of them. But I also remember the excited anticipation of it. And, well, that is a good memory. As is remembering the whole environment surrounding it. -
I'm definitely getting old when someone claims to have never heard of a CoCo.

In thinking about this last night, I came up with an idea: Why not call this person and ask them to let you know when they put it up for sale. If they don't put a reserve on it, bid what it's worth. You're likely to win and pay what you intended anyway. If they do put it on reserve, then you can post the URL here and we all can watch the tumbleweeds a-tumbling by.

Heh. You think that Solar Fox commercial was made in the 80s. I just can't tell... By the way, CBS Electronics? The excitement ended a long time ago. :-/

According to other thread the VCS (Sears) ran $150.00. Considering the average house price in 1982 was 23,500, one cannot say that $150.00 was pocket money. Perhaps it is today, though...

I remember seeing this when it was relatively new. Perhaps it was in Electronic Games. I'm not sure. The robot looks distinctive enough that I recall it pretty well.

Suuure! You say this on a Atari forum, but go and put this on an Intellivision forum or a Genesis forum or a Astrocade forum.

I think E.T. suffers from "Plan Nine" syndrome. Plan Nine from Outer Space seems to top a lot of people's list of "worst movies of all time", despite the fact that it's not even the worst Ed Wood movie of all time. You didn't like Glen or Glenda?
-
Wow. E.T. is over 30 years old. I wonder, though, if some of those folks who took the poll have ever played it and simply heard it's the "worst game?"
-
I still, after all these years, cannot play a Breakout style game without paddles. The mouse is way too over sensitive and the keyboard is ridiculous for this type of game. Have you guys gotten used to new controls for these style games??

I know it doesn't count. It's not old and it's got two exclamation points, but I am always tickled by BASTARD!! by Tecmo.

"Ohhhhhh, I died! Boy that brings back some memories."
tcv replied to Atari Charles's topic in Atari 2600
One thing I find interesting about this is that the then-host, Dan Elias, was quoted with some disparaging remarks about video game collectors shortly before he took over the show. I can't recall the exact quote. I read it somewhere. He thought it was useless, worthless, or something like that. Looks like he had to consider it anyway. Bwahahahaha. m -
How do we know that price tag wasn't applied sometime later by someone who thought the game was rare and worth $98.00?
-
Looking at , it doesn't look like that bad of a game...
-
What about "Outer Space?" I don't know if it was the worst, but it was pretty darned odd.
-
Thanks, guys! That's it! Pretty elaborate service for the time, methinks.

I'm trying to spark a memory. I seem to recall an ad that ran in Electronic Games for some come of 2600-service that hooked up to the telephone through some sort of a special cartridge. I pined for that stuff badly, but I was never meant to get it. Presumably it was to download games? That was the promise, as I recall. Does anyone around here remember that? Did anyone ever use it? Cheers, Mike...
