  1. Sorry guys, I have very limited knowledge of Atari games so what I am about to say may sound stupid. What is this game? A homebrew? FWIW: It looks awesome and sounds great. It's amazing what the 2600 can do.
  2. Really neat commercials. And the actors did very good jobs. It looked like they really knew how to play and enjoyed versus other slap-happy ads with family members faux-laughing. Anyway, I'm curious about something. Does that Atari 2600 have a black front? It doesn't look woodgrain. Or is that just the darkness? Great find.
  3. Saw some kind of ad for Neutrogena dandruff shampoo or something that has Space Invader like visuals and sounds!!
  4. Well, I don't know if you'll quite find rhyme or reason. After all, to get to some of the areas, you literally flew through the street. How does that happen? By the way, why did Superman care about the bridge to begin with? And does the Lois Lane in the game qualify as the ugliest?
  5. On that line of thinking, how do the birds in Phoenix fly around with no wings? I had that exact same question long ago when I put my Phoenix page up: http://www.atariprotos.com/2600/software/p...hoenixproto.htm Tempest How does Phoenix rank on this list? I actually liked it.
  6. Granted I am asking this in a 2600 - forum.... With the recent lackluster performance of Superman for 360/PS2 and the previous N64 bomb, it led me to wonder if the 2600 Superman was the only decent Superman video game? If so, how come? You'd think Supes would lend himself so well to better graphics and bigger worlds. Maybe I just don't know of other games, but is the 2600 Superman the best of the bunch?
  7. Too busy? It's an hour! You come in, read, and post a hello. That's it. These prima-donna 2600 programmers need to be knocked down a few pegs!
  8. It reads okay. I noted in the article it says that the dump is "crushed and covered nightly." Now, this was in 1983. Every single _DAY_ since then the dump was "crushed and covered?" We need archaeologists. Not Atari Fans.
  9. The middle pics look like old Coleco soap. That's gotta be ray-yaH!
  10. You mean to tell me that E.T. is extending his little neck, levitating and rising up to the top of the pile and then, having encountered the bottom-side of a highway, falls back down to the bottom? Oh n0es!
  11. This kind of thing was easily half-the-fun of Christmas back then. :-) I also note with a smirk how the screen shots aren't really screen shots at all but drawn representations. Next time someone complains to a developer when the developer uses a FMV cut-scene to represent game play, all the developer has to say is, "Hey, they've been doing that crap since the Atari."
  12. That is absolutely NOT Wil Wheaton. In any case, Wil Wheaton is on the net and very available. Why not ask him? http://www.wilwheaton.net/
  13. I'm definitely an original gamer. I started in the late 1970s with Combat and Target Fun. To me, the games of Back Then were different from the games of today. The only games that even get close to the type of feeling are some puzzlers. Really, though, I don't think you can capture the feeling today without playing the old games on those old consoles.
  14. You're playing Pac Man. How embarassing!
  15. It's neat... but... The video says they use the original controller types? Huh? They're using joysticks. Also, closeups of the game show that the collision and physics aren't quite perfected. Pretty cool, though!!
  16. As much as it pains me to say it, I think it might not hit No. 2 squarely enough. As far as multi-generational use goes, you can see something like Lincoln Logs or Tonka Trucks hitting squarely there. My father played with Lincoln Logs. I did, too. Parents buy Lincoln Logs for their kids today. The Atari was my generation and while there certainly are kids who get them today, it's not nearly as ubiquitous as it was in 1979. I could see them entering "Video Games" into the Toy HOF and the Atari as the "toy" that started them all.

    E.T.

What is that thing underneath? It kinda looks like a vivisected dragon.

    E.T.

I do remember frustration around the pits, but I didn't really dislike the game at the time. My friends and I played it a lot.
  19. For what it's worth, there have been a few requests for the Mythbusters to cover this. They've not done it and who knows why? Another show that might be willing to take this up is History Detectives on PBS. They don't produce a lot of shows, which is unfortunate, but they've often taken up topics with narrow interest.
  20. I don't remember how I _first_ became aware of them. I do remember playing Combat with my father around the time the system was released. I don't recall, however, whether this was the Sears system or the original Atari.
  21. One of the things that appeals to me about systems like the Macintosh is that they harken back to the days when every system you bought was sufficiently different from others. So, when you had an Atari, you had an ATARI. You didn't have a "Commodore 64 compatible." This allowed system manufacturers to really differentiate their products. Go into any CompUSA today and every single laptop is Windows with a few superficial differences. Now, granted when you're young or broke or both, you typically can't have all the systems you want. This has been a source of frustration for many a-kid in the 70s and 80s. Now I have the money and the age, but most of those really different systems are just gone. Of course, that's why we're all here!
  22. Being on this side of the ocean, I don't know about the 'Time Team.' The Mythbusters, however, seem to be around the right age to be curious. Does the city still own the land? Maybe Geraldo would take it up?

    Demon Attack

I think wave 16 says "Smoke-a-fattie". Actually, if you listen closely, Wave 9 sounds a little like "Fattie-smoker". Mine says, "I like to kill deer."
  24. I saw a pic of it somewhere. I haven't played it yet. I could scarcely believe my eyes. Makes one wonder how much better 2600 games would have gotten if there was never a dip in development.
