  1. Hello everyone,

My trusty heavy sixer has finally shown signs of age.  I can only play a game for a minute or two before it locks up or the screen scrambles.

Is there any reputable place I can send it to have repaired?

Mine is modded for S-Video, RCA jacks, and has the pause button added.  All worked fine for many years up until now.

I am not very technical when it comes to these and appreciate any assistance you may be able to provide.

    Best regards,

    Tremoloman

    Hi there!

I'm the programmer of Amoeba Jump and from what you're describing, it sounds like Amoeba Jump isn't compatible with the flashback. Or rather: the flashback isn't compatible with an original Atari 2600. I suspect the flashback doesn't support the early HMOVE instructions which Amoeba Jump is using a lot. Nothing I can do about that.

Thank you for Amoeba Jump!  One of my favorite homebrews EVER.  I play it just about every day.  I get up in the morning, take a shower, get dressed, then play a game before I go off to work, and another when I get home.  Freaking awesome game bro!  So happy it saves your high score on the cartridge version I have! :)

  3. Looks like a new 2600 console is upon us:

"Enjoy your favorite Atari 2600 and 7800 games on one system. Not only does the Atari 2600+ pull double cartridge duty, it also features HDMI and widescreen mode for easy connectivity to modern TVs.
Jump right in with the included CX40+ Joystick and a 10-in-1 game cartridge that features some of Atari’s most famous games like Adventure®, Missile Command®, and Yars' Revenge®."

  4. To me, there's something special about playing on original hardware.

I have a heavy sixer modded for stereo output, S-Video out, and built-in pause button.  I put it in our spare bedroom where I let my girlfriend set it up as her bedroom.  I come in and play Atari in there every day.  I just have AA homebrews and a Harmony Encore cart which does the trick for us without taking much space.  Stella is fine and I use it regularly, but real hardware is where its at for me.

Mine came in this afternoon, they are SOLID and well constructed, they look like they'll last for decades after I'm gone, I should've paid attention to their design and ordered ones for my AtGames Flashback CX40 joysticks, as these work only with OG CX40 2600 joysticks and not the Flashback versions, let alone the Hyperkin ones one guy mentioned earlier on. Hopefully there'll be ones for Flashback sticks as well as those for Hyperkin/RetroN 77 sticks as well, but these are magnificently created and well worth the asking price.

These couplers DO work with the Hyperkin/Retron 77 joysticks! :)

Agreed on Burgertime, if you want a much better port of it I highly recommend you check out and download @splendidnut's rendition of it that BLOWS AWAY the M Network version, Chaotic Grill,  that, and if you also want a better port of its sister release Lock 'n' Chase, even though the M Network version wasn't so bad, check out @RaymanC's fantastic Lucky Chase!!!

Wow!  Thank you for informing me of these remakes!  I had no idea they existed.  Really nice work!

  7. Zayre was my #1 place to pick up Atari ages.  After the crash of '83, there was a table near the cash registers at the Braintree, MA location that would have lots of games available for $5.  I still have many of the carts I bought there today.  Ah... the memories.  I really miss Zayre.

Probably a rookie question, and I think I already know the answer, but will the Amiga/Atari ST version of the Gravis GamePad work on an Atari 2600? I assume "yes" since 2600-compatible joysticks work on STs and Amigas, and examining the pinouts of various 9-pin systems appears to confirm this, but I was wondering if the GamePad's ST/Amiga switching circuitry would cause any issues. And I've heard of theoretically compatible controllers damaging systems they weren't intended for (like Genesis controllers on a Commodore 64).

If this does work please let me know.  It is my favorite 4-button controller of all time and will hunt one down if it works :)
