  1. Someone has offered me a working Falcon 030 (stock as far as I can tell), complete will all boxes and manuals for $400.00. Is this a good deal? thanks!
  2. I've ordered quite a few items from them, always shipped quickly and well packaged. As well, they often give price breaks on larger quantity orders. My only complaint would be that they don't reply to (my) direct emails very often - more than likely a spam filter - my solution is to buy something from eBay and then add any other items to that order. Works every time!
  3. OK, this might make some purists cringe, but bear with me... My current project is to mount a 1050, XEGS motherboard, 850, MyIDE, SIO2PC and possibly a modem as well as suitable power supplies all inside an PC (Dell) case. I'm not sure about a monitor - I think I have room inside or I could mount a Composite to VGA adaptor as well. The idea here is to create an all-in-one Atari system that is easy to transport, looks reasonably attractive and keeps all the complexity of cables and connections away out of sight. (this model of box has an easy-off side panel so I could easily show off the insides!) I've already upgraded the Video, next will be the addition of the internal MyIDE - I should be able to run a cable up to the 3.5" drive slot and mount a CF to IDE adaptor there. Next will be 1050, power supplies, etc. The final step will be to craft an "Atari Inside" logo! And before you bring out the pitch forks, please note that all of this will be a non-invasive operation - no Atari products will be harmed during the creation! I intend to use a multitude of extension cables to connect things and reach the outside world. This picture shows the already mounted 1050 The motherboard and insides of the 1050 can been seen
  4. I scanned and PDF'd the "Best of..." book book today, unfortunately it takes up about 10 mb for the book and 3mb for the covers. How can I get it to you? Just for fun, I ran it through an OCR engine and it seems to have done an excellent job of recognition - programs can be copied and pasted fairly easily. P.S. Can you please post your Excel file in 97/2003 format - I don't have OO/Office07 installed in this machine.
  5. Great work! I really appreciate this! Not sure what it was, but there was some intangible quality about SoftSide that made it stand out from other magazines of the era ... Always one of my favourites! I have the "Best of SoftSide" (Atari version of course) Compilation - Do you want that as well?
  6. Update - I received another shipping promise on Saturday - this time Curt says he will ship my order August 18th - hopefully everyone else's as well! I'll keep everyone up to date on developments. regards jim P.S. Thanks to everyone who responded to my survey!
  7. I've been seeing some really out-to-lunch ebay auctions recently and thought this would be a good place to share some of them. Here's one that caught my eye today for being rather numerically challenged (both model # and price wise) Title: ATARI 1200XL System Starting Price: $500 Description: Original ATARI 1200XL with a TV, PERCOM 5.25" Floppy Drive, ATARI 410 Tape Drive, two joysticks, an Epson printer (not shown) with ATARI to EPSON printer converter, ATARI BASIC and WORDPROCESSOR cartridges, and >25 floppies with many games and utilities. All cables and power supplies included. Take "as is". No implied guarantee whatsoever. I recently tried some of the floppies, some games work, others don't. In general, the whole system is operable and kept in good working condition despite it being >25 years old. You will be surprised and will likely enjoy the early video game technology. 8. Still waiting for mine (ordered Oct 16th) ... I did however get a new shipping promise (my third) following my latest email assault:
  9. I have the ST version (complete in package), so it appears that the website is not completely accurate. As well, I have this title (for the PC) which I believe is the last thing published by Synapse.
  10. I did, although I had to cheat a few times - when your character dies, press System Reset, and you're returned to life in exactly the same place/state ... funny, I don't recall any other game that handled the Reset this way...
  11. I finally found a Nautilus box!!! (Now all I need are Dodge Racer, Alley Cat and Shadow World)
  12. Congrats - I was really tempted to buy that! ... I'm sure I'll spend the next few years kicking myself... Interestingly, the very first LAN/Network (if you could stretch the definition and call it that) I worked with was a Corvus. I think we had 6 PC's connected (via ISA cards and a 4 wire cable) to this device (which was a double height version of the ones pictured). 40 megabytes of shared storage! Ooooooo! This would have been sometime in early 1989. It was notoriously flaky, often requiring a reboot of all connected machines, but at the time, incredibly cool! I never realized that they had made a version for the Atari!
  13. Thank you for all the responses! I guess much chances of finding one in the wild are pretty much zero. Too bad!
  14. This has been bugging me for a while... Were the alternate logo designs (the rainbow effect) for the 400/800 ever put into production? Am I likely to ever come across one on the wild? I've only ever seen this logo on the Atari Basic book and on the first Sears catalog ad. Does anyone know?
  15. If you're looking to purchase hardware, I'd suggest a few guidelines; Always check (as much as possible) the condition of the item. People who claim "can't test, no software/power supply/etc" are to be avoided (unless the price is irresistible!) Another one to avoid are ads that claim the hardware "powers up OK, but unable to test further". Also, for what's worth, I've found 1050's to be the most reliable/long lasting drives, and 810's to be the worst (of all the 810's I've purchased, only one worked properly) Hope this helps
  16. Try Deal Extreme (Video Games --> Wii) I've purchased a lot of stuff from them and generally been quite satisfied. I really love the fact that shipping is included for all items!
  17. What you need are a DB25 Male to RJ45 female adaptor and a DB9 Male to RJ45 adaptor. Make sure you specify "quick connect". They should be $2-$3 each. You'll need a normal network patch cable as well to connect them - I've used 3', 6' and 12' without any issues. I purchased mine from a local electronics retailer called Sayal I'm pretty sure you can buy through their website, their part numbers/descriptions are below: SKU................PartNumber........Description 214020...........1175...................MODULAR ADAPTER DB9M/RJ45 8P8C 217127...........ADD-1775-Z........MODULAR ADAPTER DB25M/RJ45 8P8C If you're really stuck, send me a PM and I can mail you some (at cost)
  18. I recently repaired/reconditioned a 1200 XL keyboard (this very one in fact). I peeled back the mylar and cleaned the contacts (both sides) with rubbing alcohol and q-tips. Initially it had only two keys working, and now everything works!
  19. Updated Pics (new house, more room) my wife refers to this as the "Atari Shrine" (please note the tragic gap in system boxes!) close-ups Workstation
  20. Nope, it's on the A: side a double-sided demo disk. Side B: contains a demo an Apple II program called "EPF IV" or "Expanded Programming Facility"
  21. Nice. I was strongly thinking about bidding on the cassettes. I've bought (literally) over 100 boxed games in the past 2 weeks, so I'm trying to hold back a bit, even when they are rares. Still, those two games look very nice. I love seeing very early titles. Thanks for not bidding against me! I have a personal connection with Inhome, I knew one of the principals quite well, in addition to being heavily involved in the HBO Atari users group with Cope and Morris helped found. (As well, Alien Swarm was the first video game I ever owned!)
  22. Very nice! Does it get very warm? ... How noisy is the fan?
  23. And the Kurta touch tablet mentioned in another thread. I will upload the .cas image of Intruder as soon as I can get my hands on a cassette player (unless there is a way to do it directly using SIO2PC)
