  1. Why not try to strike a deal with the current owner? You'd get the ROM and actually finally get some cash from all your hard work you put into the project. Intellectual copyright is not one of the easiest things to win in a court battle, you may end up spending thousands to save hundreds.

Who is the current owner of the proto?

  2. Curiosity got the better of me, so I popped open Looney Tunes Hotel.

Bottom two chips are socketed with flush mounts, the top 2 are hard wired. Not worth my time to dump half a game ;)

I'm not looking to get these dumped currently, just looking for a sale. I release one free proto ROM dump a month over on NA, and I love the idea of preservation, but I'll leave these two to the buyer(s).

If you do dump those two chips and they turn out to be different from the lower 16K for the ROM floating around, you may be able to get more money ;)

With people charging $1k+ for dumps of released games already, I'm not down with trying to squeeze more money from people. I figure about $200 a piece for unreleased games is a fair deal, I wouldn't think twice about accepting an offer for that price on either game.

  4. Hmm, are you sure they aren't the eyelet style socket that are practically flush with the board? They were very common for 5200 protos.

    Mitch

Fairly sure they don't. I have a TON of NES proto boards with those flush mount sockets that I picked up in a lot with Kitty's Catch, so I'm familiar with what they look like in person. I could check, but you be honest I'm not a pro at opening up 5200 carts yet and I don't want to risk snapping them as they're already up for auction.

  5. Did you ever dump these?

    Tempest

Nope, but I wish I could have. I've got a CopyNES for NES protos, I have an SNES programmer for SNES protos, and I have an EPROM programmer that dumps just about any loose chips I can throw at it. All EPROMs are soldered on these protos, and I have no other means of dumping 5200 stuff. I dump every proto that comes through my hands when I can (at around 50 cart based protos now, I think 8ish unreleased games), but I didn't have the means to do these two.

On the plus side, anyone can buy them and dump them as they are currently on EBay!

If mods think this should be moved to the auction forum, feel free to do so. Also, don't be afraid to make offers!

  6. Unfortunately, we're all sold out. On the plus side, we do have plans to release a new previously unreleased NES proto very soon. The next project from From Nowhere Productions will be Kitty's Catch: http://www.unseen64.net/2009/06/22/kittie-...-nes-cancelled/

Hoping for a late summer release, although it could be as late as September. For those of you who missed out on Hoppin' Mad but still want to play the game, I also released the ROM free for public download: http://www.nintendoage.com/forum/messagevi...highlight_key=y

If anyone wants instructions on how to make a repro of it, I can help you out. PM me if you're interested, I could probably find a way to get you an unnumbered loose copy too.

  7. Why hasn't Tempest Chimed in, he is the expert. :ponder:

Because Tempest has to sleep some time. :)

Those are legit. My best guess is that they were personal copies made by someone at Atari as those are 'non standard' labels. Just because the eproms don't have covers on them doesn't mean anything. Lots of protos never had them.

    Ian is 100% trustworthy.

    Tempest

Well that settles that, thanks Tempest!

Ian is the man, hooked me up with a very fair deal and I'm glad to know that these are indeed legit protos.

  8. While I don't believe I've personally dealt with Ianoid, I have talked with him a few times.

I like to think he's an alright guy: having been a member here since 2001, still an active member, with a good amount of posts.

Ian is a very good guy to deal with, apparently I chose my words very poorly in my opening post. What I should have said was...

I've had several positive dealings with Ianoid and assume that these are legit protos based on his description. I've been asked by several people if these were BE protos, and I would hope that wasn't the case as Ian is a respected member and I don't think he would rip anyone off.

This wasn't to bash Ianoid at all, the guy has always been very cool in my book. I just have a deal pending with someone to trade these and I want to make sure they're exactly what I've been advertising them as, that's all.

Thanks for the help all, if anyone has any more info, let me know!

  9. I was about to trade these for some NES protos and I decided to do a price check over on DP. I was basically told that if they were BE "protos" I was looking at about $20 a pop. Not calling Ian out, but I did ask him ahead of time if these were BE "protos" before purchasing. If I get confirmation that they're legit protos, I couldn't be happier. Shit, it's free positive PR for Ian as another good transaction.

I mention Ian as a point of reference, as in it's a respected member and not just some scam and burn type member. I'm guessing with his cred that these are legit, but some people are making me think otherwise. With that being said, what is your take? Best "protos", or legit protos?

  10. Hi guys,

I purchased these protos from Ianoid a few months back, but I'm trying to move my focus to NES protos exclusively. Before purchasing, I asked specifically if they were best electronics "protos" as I had no interest in them whatsoever. Are these legit? I'd like to think I wasn't completely ripped off as I asked specific questions ahead of time, could someone please let me know one way or another? Thanks!

I promptly covered the exposed EPROM windows after snapping the photos. Any way that I can tell if they're legit or not? Be pretty pissed off if I got ripped off by a respected member, so I hope that isn't the case...

  12. Quick update: I added bounties for each game that I am willing to pay shipped. Each is 75% of the June NA price guide prices. I omitted some where I believe I can obtain them cheaper, but I'm willing to pay cash for everything else!

  13. Here it is guys, I have money to spend so let's see what you have. Looking to get a couple at a time to save on shipping and hopefully total price. Not looking to pay EBay prices, but definitely willing to spend the cash I need to obtain these last few games.

...you have every other NES game? the library is enormous

Every other licensed game, including Stadium Events, yes. I would have polished this off a long time ago (along with the remainder of the unlicensed stuff I need), but I've been buying up too many NES prototypes lately. Anyway, anyone have any of these?

  15. Hmmm I wonder if Microsoft has any power to confiscate that from you. Not kidding BTW. I'm seriously asking. I mean it does say to return immediately upon request.

Quite possibly, but I'm doubtful that a multi-billion dollar company would waste their time trying to get this back. Every prototype game is the property of the company that produced it, so with that logic people should be raiding my condo to clean me out.

Do they have the power? Sure, but I'm not going to lose any sleep worrying about Bill Gates dropping down from a helicopter and swooping this up.

The Dev Kit has been sold for $325 shipped, although I had an offer of $425 but didn't realize until after I committed to sell, just in case anyone was wondering what one would/could sell for in the current market. Still looking to sell the debug, anyone want to suggest a reasonable price?
