Hey - I just got the Atari expansion module and was playing with it a bit. It seems to work great except that some sound is loud and clear while other sound is extremely quiet. Is this the same root cause as is being discussed above?

That's pretty cool. I looked on the back of my box and realised that the address from Bram Software is a an old residential house a few miles away from me. Wonder if it's still in the same family?

7 hours ago, zzip said:It should work. I've played with fluidsynth as a synth for ST locally, and it worked fine. Just as long as ALSA or Jack is configured properly to connect fluidsynth to MIDI-in
My only word of warning is I've tried various cheap USB <-> MIDI cables, and found they have timing issues that can mess up the music. Pretty sure it's the cables at fault since I tried them with multiple devices and OSes. What were you planning to use to connect the Pi to the ST?
This is something I'm wondering myself... I have no plan yet on how to even construct a Pi with a MIDI import but I just like the idea so want to understand what's been done by others.

I'm confused. Is that not someone using MiSTer to emulate an ST and also Fluidsynth?

Sorry to revive and old thread.
I'm dusting off a STacy and I was thinking of getting Ultima installed and outputting MIDI music. I think it would be pretty easy to buy a Sound Canvas off ebay or something but has anyone installed a software package lite FluidSynth to a Raspberry PI and then piped the ST's MIDI into that for music?

I've been away from this hobby for some years so am just hearing about this. I had limited interaction with Curt but what exchanges we did have made me this he really was the world's foremost authority on Atari and also a nice person. I'll miss him.

There's still a guide here with a system-by-system breakdown of compatibility.
A buddy of mine is interested in getting into the Amiga sphere of things. Ok. And wants to know what the most compatible configuration across the board is. Not interested in ultra-turbo speed, or, rather, it's not a requirement.
But what model(s) or methods would work? Like you get an A1000, you won't be running ECS and AGA software. And if you get a 4000T or something, you won't be running the early 1984/1985 software and first workbenches.
So without spending a ton of money and bulking up with multiple consoles - what's the best solution? Emulation? FPGA MiST-like hardware? Which consoles? A2000? A1200? A600? A3000 or A4000? I understand and explained that it might be some combination of all those and may include modding.
Remember the goal is having the most software compatibility without bulking up.

Pokemon TCG Online has massive dev. work being done continually and is free to play. The only drawback is that it's data heavy and need to run on a tablet or PC (no phones)
-
I won't be buying the game because I played the first 3 as the female character. From all the screen captures and videos I've seen, the devs seem to have gone out of their way to make the female characters look like living pumpkins.

I backed this too. I'm hopeful they do what they are aiming for - to re-create the feel of an 80's open world RPG.

Come to
Sweet! Can you get back in to work on the next one and get everyone responsible for 5 fired?
Come to Seattle Retro Gaming Expo. They are always giving a talk and are easy to chat with.

I don't know of a list, but Mike Oldfield credits the ST on some of his early 90's albums.

I need to dig out my Amiga and look at the SS/US. I don't think Thylacine needs a USB stack of its own - just Poseidon (and it's USB stack in the US) and the thylacine.device loaded by Poseidon. Is it possible your issues stem from having both stacks running?
-
DPaint, plus digipaint3 for injecting color.
-
One of the best devices from I.C.
Nothing negative to say about it.
-
Thylacine is insanely unstable. I have one in in my GBA and I do use the latest Poseidon (don't know what thylacine.device) and mine works better than most, but sustained data transfers of over around 60 seconds will cause a lockup. Rapid road is presumably 100x better. I use this because it's part of the 'complete set" of GBA add-ons. I'll likely swap it out with my Buddha and a clockport RR or subway at some point.

That's the Apple Macintosh
On further reflection, I think I agree with you.
Post 2010 we've moved away from the concept of the computer as a platform that you expand and back to the Mac's concept that a computer is an un-expandable sealed magic thing with a built-in display that end users are not expected to understand or try to use in any way other than as a consumer of the software that the device runs.
Maybe the PC and Amiga were the aberrations.
-
I personally like the different feel you get from the tech of the era. Even the same software is subtlety different when played on a Mac II vs Amiga vs ST vs IBM clones.
If were just talking games, I'm sure there will be games on the ST that will never reach the Amiga, even though a few coders have been pumping out ports of some of the most egregious omissions (like Oids)
-edit- I also love the STacy - that's system has no 68K rival.
-
The ST was a games console and a home computer. The Amiga was the first modern personal computer. This debate has been done to death and won in favor of Amiga dozens of times over, even here on Atariage in the ST forum.
-
That's great!
If you like R-Type, you owe it to yourself to check out Blood Money and Battle Squadron. Both are Amiga-specific so take better advantage of the gfx and sound.

I made this a while back since I can't find any demos of the GBA motherboard in English on youtube.
