Thanks! I'd never seen that site. I'll check it out and likely order one.

I think one of the bigger Amiga forums might be able to offer some advice RE: the GVP. I've had a few and they have worked well but have not had good luck getting them running when something goes wrong. I suspect their PSUs are not very robust and that they have some ESD sensitive bits. Have you checked out Kipper2k's web site? He's got a combo RAM/IDE board that fits into the 68000 socket which is an ideal basic upgrade. He's also going to be the one producing the Vampire 500 board which has digital video out, massive RAM expansion, ultra fast IDE, and a 68060 class processor.

New XB Game: Wizard's Doom (In Progress)
FastRobPlus replied to adamantyr's topic in TI-99/4A Development
Loving the look of this game. -
The keyboard is the trickiest part. Commodore had a promotion back in 1988 called 1000+1000=2000. The way it worked is you traded in your Amiga 1000 and could get a base A2000 for only $1000. I'm not sure but I think this would have been something like a $1000 discount on the A2000. Commodore didn't actually want the A1000's back. They had you send a check for $1000, your A1000's serial number (I think this was on a warranty page in the 3-ring binder) and your A1000's keyboard! This left a bunch of folks with an unusable A1000 and an brand new A2000. Nearly immediately after this, 3rd party sellers began offering variants of this adapter (same that carlsson menitons) that let you connect the A2000's keyboard to the A1000. For this reason, there are fewer A1000 keyboards out in the wild than there are A1000 computers. Unfortunately, as a collector, this is a poor situation since one of the coolest retro features of the A1000 is its ability to park the keyboard underneath the main unit when not in use. It's actually one of the defining characteristics of the Amiga's Industrial Design and came as a shock to Amiga Inc. when Commodore axed it.

You might want to take a look at this guide: http://www.thebitplanes.com/archives/63 the first page has some A1000 specific info. Personally, I'd recommend swapping it with somebody for an A500. The 500 is a great starter Amiga. But the 1000 is super pretty... Adding to Carlsson's comment on floppies - you don't want to use 1.44HD disks because the Amiga formats disks as DS/DD (unless it's an Amiga 3000/4000 that's got an HD drive in it). HD disks formatted as DD disks always seem to error out sooner or later. If you want KS/WB disks for the 1000, PM me your address and I'll copy some for you.

I'm pretty sure Vampire is coming to the 500/2000 at some point. Almost certainly not soon, but I remember hearing it will happen. A word of warning about the 600/1200 - like the 4000, they are well known for having cap issues. They also have poorer membrane keyboards. Replacement keyboards - particularly 600/1200 keyboards or even just the Mylar circuit sheet are probably the most direly needed Amiga spare part that hasn't been produced yet. I'll be selling my upgraded A600 for $350 soon because I don't trust the build quality of wedge Amigas.

Where can I get kickstart 1.3 chip for Amiga 500?
FastRobPlus replied to eebuckeye's topic in Commodore Amiga
They are pretty common. If nobody here has one to offer and you don't see a cheap one on ebay, you can create an account and ask on AmiBay. -
Mildly surprised - the turnout was very good! They do need more stuff to do at the show, and more actual "retro" retro sellers. Albert and his high end pixel art booth was there, and about 10 knockoff pixel art booths.

Elite: Dangerous...NOW what do you think?
FastRobPlus replied to Unbeliever's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I downloaded the free Elite Dangerous Arena from Steam last night. After seemingly infinite keys and captcha and passwords, it's installed. Now I'm not sure it's a VR game... Are all version VR, and you go into the menu to set it up? It does not appear in the list with my other Steam VR games. -

Elite: Dangerous...NOW what do you think?

I'd like to know how this setup works too. I've got the Rift and of course Eve, since it was free. I get dizzy if I play it too long. -
A quick and dumb Incognito 800 question
FastRobPlus replied to FastRobPlus's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Thanks Kyle! I did a quick search and must have missed that thread. What I think I (and possibly others) need is to make a page or two of "quick start" notes for every retro system we own and tuck them in with the hardware in case they get packed for extended periods of time or somebody else eventually inherits them. -
Compatible SD / CF media for Ultimate cart, Incognito & SIDE
FastRobPlus replied to Kyle22's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I have my Incognito 800 open right now, so looking at the back... Lexar 256MB CompactFlash 2004 rev a (no speed rating markings) -
I've just taken out my 800 after having packed it away for about two years. The last thing I did was install Incognito and flash the bios to get it to recognize carts. Having hooked it all back up, I see it's booting into Sparta DOS currently. I probably did this, but I know almost nothing about Sparta DOS. Now I can't even remember how to get to the main INCOGNITO configuration screen. Can somebody tell me what key(s) to hold down? Thanks!

Not sure why it's in the forum, but happy birthday 3rd gen Atari VCS!

Yeah, I'm always leary when they rush an update. I hope this one has been thoroughly tested...

I can make a display for it at SRGE this year, assuming SRGE happens (I'm beginning to have doubts...)

Ultra Rare HALO XBOX Discovered in Seattle!
FastRobPlus replied to Metal Jesus's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I made some of these sorts of Frankenstein consoles back in the day. We kept plastic shells at R&R for repairs and I would take the ones I liked the look of and wrap them around a console. I remember socking away a bunch of the silver Xbox jewels that go on the top and the silver BTS stickers for the bottom so I could open and service consoles without leaving unsightly holes. Way back when the original crystal-green team consoles shipped, they made us all pay full price for them (something about tax reporting) and my wife didn't want me to get mine. I think they were $299 or $399... I told her these were special collectible consoles and showed her the picture that called the consoles "crystal green." She became much more receptive to the idea of having one. Unfortunately, when the console arrived, she found out that "crystal" is a euphemism for "clear plastic". For $299 she was expecting some kind of actual crystal Xbox! She was pretty upset with me after that. -
Seek to find a real photo at former Atari Store !
FastRobPlus replied to Caterpiggle's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
He probably saw the Google van coming down the street. I think they get a lot of this sort of thing. This last summer we stripped the paint from our house and began to put the new paint on just as the van passed. So in the pic our house looks like one of those abandoned ones in Detroit. -
What is your rarest utility/program/game that you own?
FastRobPlus replied to Star castler's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
I was given the master copy of this one on the maddening condition by the author that I don't dump the game (he seems to think it's still got commercial or IP value...): http://www.atarimania.com/game-atari-400-800-xl-xe-yacht-race_20350.html
