I did some research on Haunted Urns. Turns out most of them have cheese sandwiches with images of the Virgin Mary toasted into the bread that somehow got stuffed inside of them. So good news - the urn is not really haunted. It's probably just a common old haunted cheese sandwich inside the urn causing it to act haunted! Pull that outta there and you should have a pretty nice un-haunted urn.

The image of the urn caused the pixels in my monitor to light in the exact form of an urn when I viewed the picture of it in that auction!!! How is this even possible!?!? Magic?!?!?

Funny that Meretzky is one of the judges naming the top 10 games and Zork just happens to come in at #3... Seriously, I agree with the list. In fact, I collect fot the exact reasons outlined in this article, so I guess you can consider me the historical preservationist competition. I think they need to go a bit deeper (and likely do - that was just a short writeup) and collect with an eye towards trending cultural and historical tastes, marketing, and even moral/legal ramificaitons. A group where I work maintains an internal wiki where we discuss the significance of particular games and how they influenced these (and other) aspects of the industry.

Wait - go back. Who's fixing 88 Fiero GTs? I want in on some of that. -
Very true!

Evil idea. Find a game that does not appear on eBay very often, like a c64 or Atari 800 game that's rare but not very valuable. Photograph and list one on eBay with a buy it now price of $700. Go to the store and see if they will offer you $10. If they are evil, chances are they are checkign eBay when they evlauate your trade. If they see the listign they will want to snag your game! If they offer $10, hold out for $40-$50, then sell it to them! Okay, kind of far-fetched, but if they are super-greedy, they might fall for a ploy like that one.

I can't pull the trigger on a 1400... It's rare, but it's just too subtle. I will pay pretty good for an XC1411.

Most popular classic computer of your country?
FastRobPlus replied to tamago's topic in International
My guess for USA is: Amiga Mac 68k C64/128 Atari 8 ST DOS TI TRS-80 I'm likely a bit wrong with the order. Amiga appears as #1 mainly because there is a small vocal core of hobbyists who still think Amiga is a viable, living platform rather than a collector patform(!) So maybe Amigs shoul dbe further down the list. -

GEM vs Workbench at Wikipedia

It would be cool to see GEM pic on non ST hardware. -
Yes thank you!

Not really enough info there to tell if it's new or just new-looking. Funny story - my wife went out to look at yard sales one summer day and I told her to come back with something for me. She came back with a new in the box Commodore 64 she'd bought for $2.

The link in the first post was to an earlier auction they removed. I just updated it with the correct link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...em=300084536886 ..Al Oh okay - thanks for that. I wonder if it was getting removed becuse it mentions a GBA in the same auction and the 'bots flag it as potentially being a "play your GBA games on this other system!" type of auciton
-
It says removed again. Why are they doing that? Does it come with ROMs or something? I bought my GP32 off eBay a few years back. Maybe eBay has forgotten what they are or something and is thinking they are bootleg gameboys?!?

Is there a list of back compatible games?
FastRobPlus replied to The MilkMan's topic in Microsoft Xbox 360
Okay - the issue is that Tecmo Arcade and a few others on the list do not yet play in HD modes like 720p, 1080i, or 1080p. Setting the console to 480p - while it's a hassle - should allow the game to run. I have not tested this yet. -
@Goochman Magic Carpet = Master of the Lamps @82atari5200 You don't have to take our word for it. Atarimania.com has a voting feature. Click this link to see the top games by votes: Top 100 <edit> that reminds me, I need to check out Crownland

ST to Atari 800 monitor connection possible?
FastRobPlus replied to VW's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Yeah, sorry - I mean RF out. If your system does not have this functionality, your ST does not generate a composite video signal that can be picked up from anywhere. So... if you had, say an Atari Mega ST, or an Atari STacy or an Atari 1040STf, you have no RF out. If you have a 520/1040STfm or Atari STE, I think you do have RF out. I have a STacy and I can tell you that no custom cable will give me color composite output, no matter how cleverly it is built. In fact, because of this, a special hardware device was made (the Video Key - it sold for $79 or so and uses its own external PSU) that converted the Atari ST's RGB output to color composite. Like I said, I know nothing of the Ataris with RF output, so when sombody says a custom cable lets them do color composite to any video monitor, I take them at thier word. Likewise I have been told that European Ataris with SCART can somehow be made to do composite color output. But I will never see either of these scenarios since I use a STacy and must use the Video Key device, or go the custom RGB-cable to Amiga or Maganvox monitor route as discussed earlier. Hope that clears things up. Sorry for any confusion. -
ST to Atari 800 monitor connection possible?
FastRobPlus replied to VW's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Like the poster above said, make sure you have an FM in your ST, or any kind of composite cable won't work. -
DTP - I'm gonna call him that from now on.

ST to Atari 800 monitor connection possible?
FastRobPlus replied to VW's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
There are many Magnavox and Commodore monitors that can work with an Atari ST's RGB output with just a simple custom cable that's still available from some places. These monitors also have composite input (and often Y/C and other input types) and so are also ideal for C64 and Atari 8-bits. Alternately, you can try and locate a rare item for an Atari ST called the Video Key. This converts the ST's RGB output to composite (as a loss of quality) to give the ST's color resolutions to ony device with a video input. In theory, you could even then buy a composite and s-video to VGA converter and have the Atari 800, ST, and PC all use a standard PC monitor. That would be your best space savings. Honestly, the first option is better if you can do it. -
I just need a better battery cover for mine...

There are a few collectors who are tireless and are trying to obtain most boxed software. I could name names but I never see them frequent these forums. You will see them bid against you for ultra rare stuff on eBay from time to time. I have no idea how complete a collection anybody has for A8. I know my collection is considered small at just a few hundred. I’d say there are collections that reach into the thousand+ range.

I sold a CM11342 new in the box for US $100 a year or two ago. It's a nice monitor becuse it can handle composite, YC, TTL and analog RGB, meaning it can be used with a C64, Atari 8-bit, Atari ST (with custom cable) Amiga (with custom cable) and C-128, plus it has the composite jack for generic input. A person with a large collection of systems could reduce monitor clutter by quite a bit using this monitor. - That said, I seem to remember it's a little coarse at displaying the 640x200 resolution that the Amiga and ST desktops often run in. Also - I'm speaking of the NTSC monitor. It's possible that the UK version has different ports or specs.
