Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?
FastRobPlus replied to blakespot's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Why do people keep talking like scan-doublers lower quality? I've got an internal scan-doubler on my Amiga 1200 tower and it just...doubles the image. 320x200 screens are 640x400 with 2x2 pixel "pixels," effectively. No noise or interference or whatever. Blocky, sure, but what do you expect? blakespot Isn't an internal scan doubler a totaly different technology than an external one? I would have thought in an external you are capturing the anallog signal and upscaling it, but in an internal you are creating the original signal in an upscaled format. I could be wrong (I seem to remember my amber had an analog adjustment of some kind) My flicker free video cards plug right into the denise socket and seems (to my very limited understanding) to be building a VGA compliant analog signal in its own memory. -
Proof that classics will always remain classic

Without trying to sound picky, he's not using a console, its the 800XL in the picture An 800XL is a console. A console is a computer device you interface directly with (normally via a keyboard) Oddly enough, it's not considered a Videogame console, which is really an odd irony since that's all most folks do with them. -
But what board would you dial up with your 830?

I thought Softhut.com had them but I see now that they have been out of stock since Mid '06... -
Scandoubler for 520ST for VGA screen use?

Yeah, should be a matter of just getting the pin outs right. Redmond Cable could likely make an Atari ST to Amiga converter cable and then you could obtain an Amiga external flicker-fixer. I go through a Video Key into a scan doubler that taked composite input. That gets the job done but of course you are getting the fuzziness of composite. And the video key device itself for the Atari has become a rare item. -
Nobody has the right to make a Dark Tower game. That's why it became so rare.

Yeah, I second that. He sold me something I really needed too. Good that you got it "locally" -ish.

Get on Air America and pick it up in person :!: Sounds Nigerian!

I voted Shamus becuse I can imagine that one on the VCS. I'd prefer Mr. Robot or Slamon Run, but don't see those being good translations. On second thought, maybe Salmon Run could survive the port.

Well that was relatively painless... Since I didn't bid!

>> That won't make the game less rare though You would know best!

I notice Ancient Mariner is missing from the list of unreleased Amiga games.

The seller likely has several copies. He has several copies of Atari VCS Spectravision super-rare stuff found in a warehouse or something and has been selling them again and again on ebay (Check the aucitons in his feedback to see how many Atari VCS keybaords he's sold) I'd bid on this but I fear there are a dozen more waiting in the wings and the value will plummet soon.

I have AdeventureWriter, but only for trade I'm afraid.

Yeah - I forgot the STacy has no blitter. Good catch!

STacy is a cool machine! I wish Commodore had made an Amiga portable... Its funny, the Amiga magazine .Info used to always slam Atari for bad hardware, saying they would pay money to anyone who could show them an actuall portable ST up and running software. STacy has a few issues you should be aware of: - The screen backlight is normally dead or dying, you can replace the screen (MyAtari.com) but without this it's not super pleasant to use. - The screen is monochrome so of course the STacy only runs monochrome mode software. It does of course have a monitor port on the back so you can plug in a SC1224 and get color output. - Most STacy portables have no battery power and the battery bay is just an empty hole inside the unit. I've read on the web this is becuse battery power was just un-workable given the power-hungry parts inside. - The STacy is large and has an external PSU. When you think about it, it takes up more space than a 1040STfm, since the 1040 has the PSU internally. Especially true if you need to use a color monitor.

Tj sez it all in his post. Nonworking STacy on eBay ought to fetch $50. Working but cosmetic damage and dim screen ought to fetch $100 Working but dim screen, no damage, but missing covers, $200 Working with good screen, but missing covers $300 Working and cosmeticly perfect, maybe an upgrade or two $400 You can tell Tj and I track these a lot... There were a ton of STacys (STacii? STacies?) up on eBay over the past few months, lowing the overall ending prices. You can go a year between seeing one in the wild, then suddenly see 4 at once from different sellers.

Best looking classic computers?
FastRobPlus replied to deadmeow's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Amiga 1000 yet. I agree with the person who liked the Mindset. Basicly, the less upgadable, the better looking. The systems you can eaily add stuff to look more boxlike. -
Ultima IV: cracked copies/image concerns
FastRobPlus replied to Gunstar's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Sorry to dust off an old thread, I was searching AA to see if anyone was actively discussing adding music into U4 for the Atari. The lack of music in this game is the single event that knocked my Atari 1200 from being my primary machine to living in my desk drawer back in the mid 80's. -
Any good Xbox "survival horror" games?

I always wanted to try Fatal Frame. Something about a haunted bowling alley I think... *edit* that was supposed to be a joke... -
ATI? nVidia? Tseng Labs all the way! They'll make a comeback! Just you wait! Gonna be awesome!

Check out Atarimania. They have the manual online.
