  1. I was the global customer experience PM for this product. Bloodreptile is correct that the Kinect will see kids better if it's about 6 feet off the floor, and if the kids are back about 6-8 feet from the sensor. At first, it might even be an idea to run some masking tape on the floor to create a "this is the optimal area" boundary. You do not need to calibrate it to use it casually. It has something called "session memory" where it takes a quick look at the height of the player and the color of their clothing to quickly remember and tell two players in a game apart. As far as what games are boring, etc. I defer to everybody else...
  2. To find the heat generated, look at the power supplies. Higher watt PSUs generate more energy and are a good indicator that the unit will run hotter. I wrote this article describing the Xbox 360's PSUs a few years back, but it's still relevant: http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/console-power/power-supply
  3. I'd assassinate Al and take over AtariAge. Oh wait, this is a time travel thread? Sorry, though it was a travel thread. Never mind.
  4. That's a nice device. The small amount of cable coming out the tail lets helps make it compatible with more Amiga models. The A520 adapter does not fit properly into an A3000 or 2000 without some kind of support underneath it.
  5. The 1000 had color composite out, so it beat the 600. The 500/2000 have composite out, but it's mono rather than color. I think the 600/1200 composite signal might be cleaner? I'm not clear on this point. I think the 600 (or maybe CDTV?) was the first to have on-board RF.
  6. Garriot was offering them for $10,000 a few months ago.
  7. When Fable II was in development, we had an online print shop in China run off some sample cloth maps. There are a ton of these online. You can see one of them here: http://www.thebitplanes.com/archives/16 It came out very well. I think they even offered framing or mounting as an option. We used a high resolution BMP file.
  8. FWIW - almost nobody is left from the Xbox/Xbox 360 era. Nick Baker is still there, as is Mei-Mei and Leo Del Castillo, but most of the heart and soul of Xbox is gone. Shane Kim, Robby Bach, Ed Fries - all out. My entire team (responsible for global policy and designing for customer satisfaction) was gutted in 2011 - nobody is left. I think Xbox One is more about convincing the B-Team that currently runs the business unit that they can make something (anything) relevant. We'll see...
  9. A fun pastime: reading Amazon reviews of Y2K readiness books. Here's a sample: 6 of 7 people found the following review helpful 4.0 out of 5 stars very good, November 17, 1999 By A Customer This review is from: Y2K for Women: How to Protect Your Home and Family in the Coming Crisis (Paperback) I bought this book about a month ago and followed everything the book said.It will take awhile but I believe I will be prepared for Y2K.I took all of my husbands money to buy a power generator.I have been burying food in the backyard.I bought 30 sf freezer and have filled it with Bird Pies.I plan on going out and buying 6 months supply of drinking water next week.I know we are facing armaggedon but with the help of this great book,I think we will be one of the few survivors.
  10. RIP Bill Barlow, the last 353rd Fighter Group P47 Thunderbolt pilot.

Sad to hear. My fav WW 2 plane was the P-38 Lightning

  11. Ouch! Though now that you mention it, I remember my monitor dying in the Hawaiian heat once, and I used similar trick of Composite ->VCR -> RF Coax input on a TV. I think I even had to have the VCR on "Record" or something.... It looked really bad.
  12. Why do they call them "Durable goods?" They generally aren't durable and they aren't good.

  13. My furnace is stuck "on", I think a wire has shorted. I went to examine it, and printed on the front it says: "It's hard to stop a Trane." I didn't know that was a warning!!

Just the fan is on, or is it producing heat? If just the fan, it could be a dirty filter. The firebox overheats due to lack of airflow and the fan stays on.

wood stove is cheaper and the heat that it makes feels better).

Trane? I didn't know poor spelling could stoop to such lows.

  14. It's an extremely faithful reproduction of the Cinematronics version. Feels too crammped though.
  15. I should be possible to play Ultima VII: The Black Gate on an Amiga via Exult (available on Aminet) I have not tried it, but I would like to. I loaded Exult but it didn't appear to work. However, I don't have a functional copy of Ultima VII anymore (my disks are bad) so it's possible I have to have the files from UVII copied over before. I'd like to make sure it works before going out and buying another copy of the game.
  16. Hmm... I can't remember which were and which were not. Ultima I: The Original was A8 only. C-64 hadn't taken off yet.
  17. Wait - does Milton Bradley/Hasbro hold the rights to license or even make Dark Tower?? I though the crux of the Dark Tower debacle was that they made the game without full rights, and had to stop making it and stop making derivatives from it. I'd think that asking Hasbro for permission to make a derivative of the game would be like asking a Chinese counterfeiter if you could get rights to make Nike shoes.
  18. $40-$100, depending on completeness. A Shrink-wrapped one can go much higher. Also - most copies of the US Ultima IV are "flippies" that run on a C64 or A8. FWIW - the official hint books for UIII, Iv, and V are worth more than the boxed games. I sold a copy of "Secrets of Sosaria" for $200
  19. Now might be the time. I only offered mine because I saw one go for 800 a few days before. Now others are jumping on the bandwagon and offering them. I think there are two up on eBay now, and they should both go for 500 or less since the fierce bidders have been eliminated.
  20. Speaking of collecting, I just sold a copy of Ultima 1: The Original for the A8 on eBay for $750. Ultima items are going for big bucks right now. I drove that copy of Ultima to the post office in my new Altima while listening to the Ultima soundtrack on the stereo.
  21. You should also have a little hint card that tells you ho to get past the snake. According to the book Hackers, Roberta Williams spent a great deal of her waking hours for months answering this qustion when players called their home.
