Looking to add the picture label variant of the "Fun with Numbers" for the 2600 to my collection. If you have one for sale in nice shape, preferably with the manual please let me know. Not really interested in the box, just the cart and manual. Thanks

Curious to hear which art you meant. Steve Hendricks' original art for the game looked like this: http://cdn3.sbnation.com/assets/3205643/atari_finalart.jpg But it was changed because a woman in marketing didn't like the placement of the eyes on the woman. So, they used the art from the inside of the manual to serve as the box art. Also, this art was also used for some promo pieces, but I'm not sure who the artist was (yet). http://atariage.com/forums/uploads/monthly_04_2010/post-5874-127177498956.jpg
Never mind. Did some searching and found the picture again. Thanks www.atarimania.com . Looks like it was an old ad for Haunted House. Still a very cool picture for the game. http://www.atarimania.com/pubs/hi_res/pub_haunted_house.jpg .

I am curious to know more about the story behind "Haunted House"
In my opinion, the working title's (Nightmare Manor) cover art for the game looks far better than what came out for the released version. The Nightmare Manor art conveys a much more darker and spookier game image. Since most of the game occurs in the dark, it's more fitting to have dark artwork rather that the released version which predominately uses light brown/white colors. It also captures many of the game elements (Ghost, Spider, Bat, Eyes). My guess is that it was probably rejected due to religious reasons. Wonder if the original game concept included the assembly of a crucifix which was later changed to an urn. Attached is a picture of a label I fabricated for one my extra Haunted House cartridges. The Atari artwork I used was found on the web many moons ago.

Hi all,
I recently won a CBS Electronics brochure off ebay that contains something that may be of interest to fellow Coleco Adam fans. In the brochure, it shows a full page spread of the Coleco Adam standalone prototype with the stringy wafer drives. Okay, we have all seen that model before. But one detail I noticed is that on page 3, there is a line drawing of what appears to be an all in one version of the Adam with the keyboard and cartridge slot in the same casing. Looking at the specs, it seems like at one time, Coleco may have been considering simply repackaging the ColecoVision to include a keyboard in one unit.

3-D Tunnels of Terror was my first game for the Apple II+. A 3-D wire frame version of Pac-Man written in Applesoft Basic. If you own the September 1983 issue of Electronic Fun with Computers and Games, you have the program listing if you so desire to rekey it in. Also had a follow-up game for same computer called Qube Hopper (A Q-Bert knock-off using low res mode). It was about to be published by the same company, but never made it due to the video games crash, which in turn resulted in the subsequent discontinuation of the magazine. Did a few games in Basic for the TRS-80 Model 1 and MC-10. Tried to sell them to Tandy with no success. Oh those where the good old days.

The last item is a cartridge port extender for use with the ColecoVision Expansion Module #1 (AKA Atari adapter).

Wow! Your right, they are one and the same. Darn it, I guess it was legit after all. Should have placed a higher bid back in 04.

Noticed one very minor quirk, and can't exactly call it a bug since the cause if it is rather unconventional. If you play it on the ColecoVision's 2600 adapter and use the ColecoVision's main console reset button to reset the game, you will end up with both raster and vector asteroids. To reproduce this, you need to be playing the game when pressing the ColecoVision's reset button. It doesn't happen when the title/options screen is up when hitting the ColecoVision's reset button nor does it happen when using 2600 adapter's reset button.

Here is one that sold on ebay back in '04. Sorry, I am not the winner. I was worried about the authenticity at the time, especially since the label looked like something printed off a color laserjet.ColecoVisionCPKWorkout.pdf

I have a ColorVision. It's a board that turns your pc into a colecovision development system. It's so rare I've never been able to find any additional info.
Backups of the three 3.5" floppy disks that go with the ColorVision dev kit before I sold it on ebay many moons ago

Arrghh... why the video are so short?!!!!!
 That game looks awesome.
Sorry about the short videos. At the time I took them, all I had was an early Sony Mavica camera that recorded images and/or videos to 3.5" floppies. I could have recorded longer videos, but the resolution would have been cut in half. To make up for it, here is a prototype Colecovision Gyruss rom image for your enjoyment.
Attached is the ColecoVision Gyruss Prototype. The prior upload attempt must have failed due to the .ROM file extension.

I just got my copy of Mario Bros and Penguin Land today!
Super job on both the games!!
Mario Bros is a blast, just like I expected. I am having a good freind of mine come over tomorrow who is also a classic gamer, so I am sure we will play it for hours. Everything about it is great, I love how you can "insert credit", and the intermissions and tutorials were a neat plus. This is certainly better than any official port I have seen.
I just love the red cart and the box, it looks so great! I havent been this excited to recieve a package in a long time.
One thing, Mario Bros wont work in my ADAM, just the Colecovision. I cant wrap my head around why
Penguin Land is great too, love the music. And its not an easy game either, its a nice challenge!
Anyway, that Mario Bros box is going into a small shadow box to hang on the wall I love it so much!
You know, funny thing.. Mario Bros. for Colecovision is the ENTIRE reason I found Atariage (searching google for the original Mario Bros box art and info), and now I have been here a year with almost 800 posts

Thanks for the comments! I appreciate that

Some people tell me that Mario Bros won't work in ADAM ... can't tell you why...
I think I'll talk about this with programmer for the REV.A
So you found AtariAge "because" of Mario Bros? really?

See Albert, I'm bringing more people here!
... that's cool!I received the new Atarimax Ultimate SD today and like it already. Using it, I am now able to play ColectorVision's Mario Bros game that was preloaded on SD card on my ADAM. Woo Hoo! Now I can keep the M.B. cartridge and the two 128-in-1 USB flashers with the ColecoVision and the Ultimate SD with the ADAM. Thanks to all those responsible for making the Ultimate SD a reality

Interesting! Never heard of or had seen this before this thread.
Any chance you've opened the thing, guys? I'm assuming it's just a passive male/female card edge device, but I could also imagine someone at Coleco thinking they had to engineer more than just a pass thru.
Something else to add to the 'want' list!Yeah, 99.999% certain its just a pass-thru device. Still a cool piece of obscure video gaming history none the less.
Yes, it is just a pass-thru.

Is there anyway to remove a permanent ink marker writing from a computer case without discoloring the case under the writing? I have a computer where someone wrote their name in some black marker and I want to remove it but now screw up the case color under the ink.
Thanks
tj
Try using a dry erase marker (The kind you use on white boards). Write over the existing permanent ink, then wipe off before it drys.

Anyone have one of those adapters for the Expansion Module #1 that allows you to use the Super Charger or TigerVision carts with it? From what I understand you had to call Coleco and complain about it and they'd send you one as a solution. I'd like to see a picture of one.
I have one in storage. When Coleco made the Expansion module #1 Atari 2600 adapter they never thought about someone making a cartridge that was a different size case. I called Coleco back in the early 80's and they sent me one for free once I gave my expansion module #1 serial number over the phone. When it arrived there was a slip of paper that said it was a $60 value if my memory is correct. In the future I have all kinds of neat things to dig out and take pictures of when I have time.
The device made the Atari 2600 adapter 100% compatible with all Atari 2600 cartridges to my knowledge. Some of those cartridges like the Supercharger modules would not make electrical contact since the plastic cartridge housing was not deep enough.
Does anyone know were one can find all the Supercharger games for the Atari 2600? When the Supercharger came out I was amazed at the graphics quality that the Atari 2600 could do.
Someone told me once that there was a company selling all the SuperCharger games on one CD disc years ago. I would like to own all the Supercharger games one day. I think I only have like 5 or 6 of the original games on cassette now.
Cool!
From what I understand its a pretty rare item since you had to actually request one from Coleco. You can actually use a Super Charger (and probably those other carts with it) by removing the top half of the shell and exposing the cart port. Like you said the design of the Expansion Module #1 physically impeded the Super Charger from making proper contact.
Another thing I did not mention is that when I purchased a second Atari 2600 adapter as a spare, Coleco refused to send me another free cartridge expander. The Coleco employee over the phone back in the 80's claimed they were only supplying one per household and not one per each expansion module #1 that a person owns.
Many people never new about the problem since 95% or 99% of Atari 2600 cartridges worked fine. One needed to really complain in order to get Coleco to send one. It was really good customer support to offer the cartridge extender device for free. It cost Coleco money since they were offering for free for those that requested one.
Here are pictures of what it looks like when used with the SuperCharger.

Finally found some time and resources to scan the elusive Summer 1983 ColecoVision Experience Magazine (aka the little known 4th edition, aka the OTHER Vol 1 Number 2). Unfortunately, my ISP is unable to get my "free" webspace account to work. Anyone willing to host it? It is about a 13 MB Zipped.

It's not a rumor, Issue 4 does exist, I own a copy.
I don't have an "Issue 4". What I have is an unpublished edition of Vol.1, No.2. The official release was in "Fall 1983" which I have, however I also have an unpublished one labelled as "Summer 1983" which contains nearly identical material to the "Fall 1983" edition, BUT the cover, photographs and descriptions of the Adam all relate to the prototype version of the memory console (with disk drives rather than tape drives) and a keyboard that doesn't have the extension on the right to hold a CV controller. I'll post some scans of the differences.
Do you also have the "Summer 1983" edition or is yours really an Issue 4?
Mine is the Summer 1983 edition; Stringy wafer drive version of the ADAM and a spread on the Super Game Module being the biggest differences. I refer to it as the unknown 4th issue of ColecoVision Experience magazine since many people out there state that only 3 issues exist. Although it is technically not the 4th issue sequentially, it bring the total count of issues to 4. Sorry for the confusion.

Hi J-F,
A book - great idea. I have a few rare items - one of the rarest being an unpublished issue of the CV Experience magazine. I also have most of the UK/Europe CBS releases in boxes so could do scans of those if you're interested. Also got a boxed Champ Adaptor and several sealed packets of aftermarket controller extension knobs, e.g. The Co-Stickler. BTW - I am still working on the scan of the press release cardboard folder - it needs a lot of Photoshop work due to the folder being pretty beaten up!!
Are you talking about Issue #4 that I have heard rumors about?????
Any chance you would scan this and make it available?
It's not a rumor, Issue 4 does exist, I own a copy. retroillucid, what format would you prefer the scans to be in? Tiff? PDF? As for the '82 catalog, it is not really a catalog, but a folder that contains misc 8" by 11" ColecoVision game flyers (aka mini posters).

When I first got my ADAM around a year ago the first thing I got was an Expansion Module #1 considering it was cheaper than a 2600 (of course that's different now). Well shortly after this I found a very nice supercharger set with the first 5 games. Well it just so happens because of the Supercharger cart getting wider as it extends out it does not fit in the Expansion Module #1. I'm just curious if there are any other 2600 carts or items that will not work with the Expansion Module #1 due to physical complications or compatibility issues.
Coleco must have been aware of the problem. They produced a cartridge slot extender that plugs right into the Expansion Module #1.
One issue that I have experienced with Exp #1 is that if you use it on a stand alone Adam that is connected to a monitor via A/V connection: The picture is crisp, but for some strange reason, the audio is muffled so badly that it ruins the gaming experience.

The ADAM killed the ColecoVision

Great YouTube video, just stumbled upon it myself. First time I have seen the digital data tape eject button being located front top right corner of the drive. So cool seeing new variations of the system after all these years.
