Ok, got a new //e disk controller, and a new problem...
Atariman replied to HuckleCat's topic in Classic Computing Discussion
Why the heck would anybody want to use a used inductor from another drive when you can very likely find a brand new one on Digikey or Mouser for a few bucks? I can understand if it were a proprietary or obsolete IC, but hunting for broken systems for an inductor seems a little goofy to me... -
Agreed. Look at the schematics or manual first before you put in any fuses. Most of the troubleshooting I've done thus far has been on my Superman machine (a totally different beast), so take what I am saying with a grain of salt, but I would look for test points on the PCBs in the machine and see if the voltages at the points match what is (likely) silk screened on the board. If you post your findings, we can go from there!

Atariman, do you have a Time 2000? That seems like the really rare one, as far as, Atari production pins go.... I wish I did! Time 2000 and Atarians are the two I have yet to acquire. I thought Hercules and Airborne Avengers were supposed to be the "rare" ones based on their production numbers, but boy was I wrong!

Replacement decals/stickers for Atari XE Light Gun
Atariman replied to BassGuitari's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yeah, I would highly recommend emailing him as I know there are some items here and there that he hadn't listed in the past (for instance, replacement cables for the Lynx battery pack). -
Nice! Middle Earth is the first pinball machine I ever bought! It is by far the nicest looking pinball machine I have at the moment (and probably the only fully functional one, as well ) .

Before I really knew anything about the SMS, I saw a copy of Wonder Boy III at Goodwill. Recognizing it as a Sega game of some sort, I looked it over and saw that the cartridge wasn't quite the same shape/size as a Genesis game, so I figured it likely wouldn't work in my Genesis. I picked it up anyway and eventually downloaded the rom and the SMS emulator to see if the game was any good. I was impressed! Once I found a SMS, this was easily my favorite game on the system!

Check out the events page on the initial Atariage page. One event you might be interested in is the Midwest Gaming Classic! It is held every spring. I haven't heard of the conference you speak of, so I may have to look it up!

Huh! That's pretty crazy - I didn't know about some of those things! I'm (apparently) one of the few people who gave this game a fair shake awhile back and played it quite a bit with friends! Unfortunately, I didn't have a Memory Track to save my progress, so we usually stuck to the first few levels. It makes me want to break it out again and give it another shot... the only complaint I ever had was that it was buggy enough that we always had to be prepared for it to crash! I always enjoyed playing it, though, and I think I'd put it in my top five Jaguar CD games!

Same here (sadly, I don't have the money to do that, though... ) - I'm actually a little surprised that folks have let the couple of douchebags get under their skin lately. We've ALWAYS had trolls here on AA (they come and they go), so I'm saddened that a couple of them wound up being the last straw for some of the pillars of the AA community. Anyway, I'm still very much looking forward to the XM and hope that Curt and others will continue to forge ahead.

Yep, that's pretty much it. It's a sound activated rumble pack for your chest.

Nope, you're all wrong. It's for the Aura Interactor - it was basically what "fed" the crappy filter/amplifier that powered the junky subwoofer that you strapped to your chest. Can it be used for the things mentioned above? Of course, but it originally came with the Interactor. Follow the link below and you'll see it in the picture part way down the page: http://www.avsim.com/pages/0604/aura/aura_interactor.htm

I always found the Game.com version of Monopoly quite enjoyable. I can't say I'm a huge fan of the other games I have for it (a decent chunk of the U.S. releases with may 4 or 5 titles I don't have). At the time, I remember being pretty impressed with the touch screen, but not enough to try and pick one up before they went on clearance at Kaybee.

I can't speak for all of them, but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to Ralph Baer and Ted Dabney on Saturday - It'd be awesome to meet those guys in person!
-
If you do, let me know - I should be there! (Been going since 2008) The show was a lot of fun this year - good to see Ax and Tempest there again along with the AAers that were selling in the vendor area! I really gotta get myself a hotel room there and contribute something next year so that I can spend more time there.

I wish they still made parachute pants. Could use one of them red Michael Jackson style jackets too! Unfortunately, they still do.

Night into Dreams without the 3d controller?
Atariman replied to GKC's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You can get by without the 3D controller, but I'd highly recommend getting one when you have the chance. I don't think I've used any other controller with my Saturn since I got one - it's definitely my favorite controller for any system since the analog stick is pretty much perfect. It has been a number of years since I played NiGHTS without it, but I did feel like it made a bit of a difference. Also, did you know that NiGHTS actually has widescreen mode? Pretty nifty if you've got a widescreen TV that has a widescreen mode for regular SDTV signals. -
I'd like an AA badge again this year, too, please! I wish I could make it to the cool tour that is scheduled for Friday (I'd pay the $150 in a heartbeat) - unfortunately I started a new job a few months ago and don't have any vacation time yet. Any chance of the tour happening again next year or is this a one-shot deal, Marty?
-
Managed to make it through on lawyer mode on the first try with one person uninfected and one other person still alive - had to barter for quite some time to get some gas, though, and just barely made it to the last stop before the end! Three-thousand-something points (can't remember exactly)

Pier Solar - New SEGA Genesis game
Atariman replied to WIZZARD77's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Was yours a pre-order or a reprint? My U.S. Posterity Edition still hasn't arrived and I'm due to move within the next week... -
Got mine today, too!

Thought of one other thing - I wonder how feasible it would be that the solenoid is drawing too much current (for whatever reason) and is causing the solenoid driver to thermally shut down. Since I doubt they would've had anything built in to protect against this, I could see it causing the flipper to flutter like that as it oscillates between its working state (after it cools off a bit after shutting down) and its thermally shut down state... Just a thought.
-
That's peculiar... I've never seen that behavior on my other Atari pinball machines (although, they could be a little different - I, unfortunately, don't own an Atarians machine). The only issue I've got that sounds similar is with my Hercules machine - the flippers will occasionally stick in place for a short time after releasing the button. Kind of a long shot, but have you tried replacing the solenoid? I wonder if it has something to do with the diode that is on it... Sorry for the potentially less-than-useful response - I haven't had a lot of time to troubleshoot my machines yet (hopefully I'll have more time this summer).

Super MVS converter and Neo Geo multicarts
Atariman replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I, too, read that the Super Converter II is 100% compatible (apparently you have to adjust the little screw sometimes - I've not had to do this yet). I haven't had any real problems with compatibility with it (yet), but have mostly used it with a multi-cart and have been slowly building up my MVS games. I imagine it would work for you, too. -
It's funny you should mention it - I just sent an email through the Legacy Engineering store inquiring about why it would be that the postal service would pick up the cart on the 10th and still not have it to me by now. I'm still waiting, too.
