and now, my yearly ritual.. Christmas NiGHTS!
Atariman replied to bomberpunk's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Bah - who cares what anybody else thinks. Christmas NiGHTS is a great game and a good pick for a yearly tradition! My roommate have sworn multiple times to play this on Christmas, but we usually forget. -
I'd say my best was the JVC X'Eye I found at a 'by the pound' Goodwill that they sold me for $1.99.

Pier Solar - New SEGA Genesis game
Atariman replied to WIZZARD77's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hopefully we'll get it by then! I can't wait to play this - my Genesis has been out and waiting for over two years, so the shipping confirmation email is a welcome sight. -
Agreed. As a matter of fact, NiGHTS was the reason I bought my Saturn. I can't say that I liked Panzer Dragoon very much, though...

One day I will have a house. In this house, there will be a large basement. In this basement I will have my pinball machines, arcade cabs, complete with dim lighting and 80's music pouring out of speakers mounted to the wall. I'm thinking I'd also like to get the authentic arcade-style carpeting that glows under a blacklight (stuff that's supposed to glow, of course, not carpet that just has crap spilled on it ) It's too bad there aren't too many arcades like that left.

As someone who had gone to Disney Quest in Chicago, I must say I was a little surprised when it was closed. The place seemed clean, full of people (but not jammed full, thankfully), and had lots of fun stuff to do. I, too, wish there were more Disney Quest locations.

Hmm... hearing that memory reminds me of one I have about the Saturn. Back when the Saturn was well on its way out, there were still a few stores that were getting rid of their old inventory. One of these was K-Mart. I looked in their glass case and saw a copy of Blazing Dragons and was dismayed to see that it was still marked for $50! I had been interested in this game for awhile and was hoping to pick it up for much, much less. I inquired about it and the person behind the counter went and grabbed the game, making note that they no longer used the kind of price tags it had on it. Scanning it into the system, she also noticed that it wasn't even in their inventory anymore! Since it wasn't even supposed to be there, she asked me how much I'd be willing to pay for the game. I suggested that $10 would probably be fair and she concurred. She rang it up for me and I walked out with a shiny new copy of Blazing Dragons for the Saturn. Along those same lines, I was visiting D.C. at one point and went to their big mall. I decided to check out the Kay Bee that they had and was surprised to see that they had an S-Video cable for the Jaguar! I brought it up to the counter and the woman gave it a funny look and said that it wasn't even supposed to be there anymore, so she gave it to me! I spied a Jaguar controller behind the counter and she said I could have that, too. I sure could've used more experiences like that when buying my Jaguar stuff!

Hmm... I think my most recent Jag purchase was a NIB copy of Atari Karts. I promptly opened it and bought a new box since the one it came in was (very) minorly damaged and a little faded. Before that, I bought around 25 NIB games that I didn't have yet. I haven't had a chance to play them... maybe after I move!

I think I'd have to go with Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast back when I first got mine in 2000/2001. I remember playing one of the first stages (the one with the killer whale that tears up the walkway behind you) and was thoroughly impressed. I didn't think there was going to be as large of a leap in graphics as there was between the Saturn and the Dreamcast!

Does anyone play Mario Party 6 or 7 on Gamecube?
Atariman replied to yuppicide's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hmm... I think I have Mario Party 6 for the Gamecube, but I didn't realize you could use the microphone on it. I don't see any reason not to pick up a microphone for the GC - they're about $2 at GameStop and the last I saw they were pretty widely available there. I think it's worth a shot! -
I think I may have a third version that might look like yours. I posted something about them awhile back, commenting on how many different power bricks the 7800 has. EDIT: dug around in my old posts and found the picture I remembered. Does it look like this one? (I removed the metal label to show what was underneath, so pretend that it's covering the molded portion)

And you're so sure it's the Game Shark causing the problems? Saturn cart slots are very finicky to begin with, Game Shark or not. From what I've heard, they use a PCB that is just a little too thick and winds up making the cartridge slot even worse than it normally is. I don't think I have experienced it myself (I have only used the GS once in my Saturn), but it does make me worry a bit.

Hmm... I always thought it didn't have a battery, but judging by what I found online, that it appears that it does, indeed, have one in it. It must have pretty minimal power consumption as mine routinely stays unplugged for very long periods of time (years) without any problems. EDIT: I read that the manual says to plug it in roughly once a month to keep the battery charged, so I may have an unpleasant surprise the next time I plug my cart in! I haven't noticed any problems with my cart, but perhaps my memory is a little fuzzy about how long it has been since I used it.

I'm impressed and surprised at how videogame-heavy that article was! Very cool to see all of that stuff worked into an article. Admittedly I did a fair amount of scanning through the article, but it didn't seem like they were really bashing the Lynx, just making a few observations about why it wasn't widely adopted and how the current Kindle/Nook/etc wars could have some parallels with the gaming industry.

I'm with the folks who think that the Jaguar looks pretty slick with the JagCD on top. I can remember when I bought my Jaguar thinking that it just looked like there was something missing... I mean, there's this nice CD add-on-shaped spot right on top and I didn't have it. I also admit that I was surprised with how tall the JagCD is when sitting on top of the Jaguar - I always imagined it making the console look a little more "complete" rather than making it a hulking beast. I love the carts, too - I always liked the big ATARI and fuji molded into the backs of the carts and controllers for some reason. It's like Atari was saying "This is an Atari, dammit, and don't you forget it!"

Uh oh! He used the bad word! There are people around here who think if you use the bad word you are a stick in the mud and only want to play games with 1 button and mono sound. How dare anyone have an opinion and consider the games to be gimm... oops... I almost used it too! Oh, calm down, Hyper_Eye. My biggest beef was that you said you hoped it failed in one of your posts, which I just thought was a little over the top - I'm not looking to start some everlasting feud with you over something as dumb as the Kinect.
-
My experience has been the same as Harry's - I believe I got the first one with my older 7800 (has the expansion port) and the second with my 7800 without the expansion port.
-
Probably a long shot, but the only thing I could think of that even sounded remotely like that was Operation: Innerspace that I used to play in Windows a LONG time ago. I only have very vague memories of it, so it probably isn't what you're looking for.

This is a really cool project! I'll be sure to check in on its progress from time to time - maybe I'll even be able to use my SNES with X-Band someday! Keep up the good work!

I think it is because they are so ridiculously common right now. I think that the Genesis is in the "clean out the closet and put this junk on ebay/in a garage sale" phase of its life, so I imagine that in another 5 years or so the prices will come up a bit. I wouldn't pay more than about $10 for a decent-looking system with controllers and hookups right now.

My main point, when looking at my post as a whole, is that it just doesn't make sense to hope that it fails. While it may be a bit of a copycat idea from the Wii, it's still something a little different that some folks will probably truly enjoy the experience it has to offer (The funny thing is that I'm in the same boat as you - I don't really think I'll pick it up, at least not until it's cheap). Not really trying to start anything with my overly-sarcastic post, but thought it might be worth pointing out that sometimes good ideas don't seem so good at first. Then again, it's possible that you've always been oracle-like and have never bet on the wrong horse, so to speak...

You're absolutely right! I don't know what is wrong with the gaming industry these days. The gimmicky way the 5200 pulled off analog controls and the idiocy of online gaming (that I mainly blame the Dreamcast for introducing in a successful way) are the bane of the gaming community! Don't even get me started with how multi-button controllers are going to destroy the gaming industry - Man was never meant to deal with such complexity! I certainly don't enjoy any of these, so I why should anybody else be allowed to use them? I hope that Kinect, Move, and the Wii all fail miserably so that we can begin making our way back to using our one-button, four-way controllers like we were always meant to! Innovation and refinement are for suckers. On a serious note, though - I understand that it seems like these things are just a gimmick, but before the DS came out, I thought the same thing about having two screens on a handheld. Years later, I own one and think it is pretty brilliant (and that is without any sort of pressure to purchase one). Not believing that something will amount to anything is one thing, but hoping that it fails because you don't envision how it will fit into modern gaming, however, just doesn't make sense. If it truly sucks, you don't need to worry - it will fail on its own.

Not sure what it's like on the model 1 Sega CD, but on the model 2, it has stereo-out on the back of the unit. You don't have to run anything from the front of the Genesis to it. Both models have the stereo jacks, but the Genesis 1 doesn't have the capability of passing sound to the SegaCD through the expansion slot like the Genesis 2 does, so it requires a cable to go from the microphone jack to the back of the SegaCD in order to get stereo sound out of both (Otherwise you just hear the sounds coming from the SegaCD).
-
The Wondermega might, but I don't the X'Eye ever did. About the only benefit I can think of is that it's easier to get stereo out of an X'Eye since you don't have to use a patch cable to go from the front of a Genesis 1 to the back of a SegaCD! I think that most of the cool features were dropped for the North American version.

I'm fairly certain that the X'Eye can use the 32X (I think I remember trying it out when I first got mine), but I've never tried the SMS converter on anything but my Genesis 1.
