Game Idea: Baby Pac-Man 2600
Phosphor Dot Fossils replied to Elllleeott!'s topic in Homebrew Discussion
Ya know, this is just perverse enough that I like the idea! -
TASTY! Love that old-school Warlords look. Nope, the guys at Atari coin-op weren't even thinking about Darth Vader when they designed that game.
-
Wow...gotta make it to AGE II: Electric Boogaloo. Have you guys even started trying to nail down a date for 2004? Inquiring minds who are growing to really really like gaming shows want to know.

I do something similar to what christianscott does, only I have an NEC MobilePro 780 handheld, mini-laptop-style (with a cover that says "Don't Panic" in large, friendly letters, no less!), on which I keep Pocket Word files - downconverted from the master files on my desktop machine - with lists for every console or computer I collect for, including columns for "have?" "box?" "docs?". I have a "catalog number" column as well which goes unused most of the time, and I've thought of turning it into "value," but I'm not too sure about venturing into that territory. The lists are based on a little bit of everything - AA, DP, Andy Krieg and Ward Shrake lists from the 90s, you name it. I've had the lists on my desktop machine for ages now, but having them with me at all times is very cool. Anyone going to CGE will surely see me walking around with this little marvel, and I may have it at OKGE as well. It's also my portable writing platform, and writing is part of what I do for a living, so where I go, it goes. It gets excellent battery life too, and has a built-in 56K modem.

It shall henceforth be known as the Mega ARkansas Gaming Expo - or MARGE for short. Hey, now there's an idea...

If they can't tell "where" from "wear," I wouldn't be too worried about 'em impacting the attendance numbers.

OK...I've bitten right through my tongue, I've got to say something on this subject. A while back, we had quite the fracas break out over the Colecovision 14-in-1 game announced for CGE. More recently we had some criticism of John Swiderski's Klax for the 5200, though John stepped up to the plate and is gamely trying to recode his whole project in time for an August release (!). But what really broke this particular camel's back was someone's comment in the 5200 Combat 2 re-release thread that the box art was "really shitty Photoshopping." It was suggested, as far back as the Colecovision thread, that maybe there needs to be a dialogue on how to approach this sort of thing. I think this is the place, and I think now is the time - before we have someone decide to pull out of the homebrewing side of the hobby. If AtariAge is backing up the homebrewers by offering duplication, distribution, sales and royalties, that's dandy - but it seems to me like AA also owes the homebrewers something in terms of defending their work. I'm not talking about any slight criticism, I'm talking about the outright attacks - stuff like the "shitty photoshopping" and "Coleco crap collection" comments. If this is a safe place to nurture, educate and encourage homebrew programmers...the mods need to step up to the plate. Criticism and suggested changes are fine...but outright attacks aren't. Anyone else have some thoughts on this? It's been said by many that we need to talk about this. I think we do. I think we really, really do need to talk about this.

Combat II Advanced New in Box at CGE2K3
Phosphor Dot Fossils replied to Atari2600.com's topic in Atari 5200
You don't want it? Don't buy it. More for me. Seriously, how different is that cover art from umpteen classic-era 2600 and 5200 covers? It evokes the feel quite nicely. And finally, if you want to talk about something shitty, it's attitudes like this that'll convince the homebrewers to just give the hell up on this hobby. And I wouldn't blame them one bit. If you don't like it, that's fine, and you're welcome to explain why, but how about some freakin' civility, huh? -
By all means, then, save it up and come to OKGE 2004. Assuming Crossbow's already planning ahead.

Atari 5200 KLAX Screenshots and Game Details
Phosphor Dot Fossils replied to Atari2600.com's topic in Atari 5200
Ah, even if it still looked like the first screenshots posted in this thread, I'm buying Klax. John does some good games. Plus, John, if you update Haunted House II, I suppose I gotta come up with some new floatin' eyeballs for ya so I can get a free upgrade. -
Systems you don't have, but want the most?

For me, Vectrex, Bally Astrocade, and - though lower priority - I wouldn't pass on an Emerson Arcadia 2001, Fairchild Channel F or RCA Studio II if I could get 'em for a song. -
Kenobi! I bet that wily old adventurer's going by the name of OBI-WAN these days.

You'd be surprised, actually, how loud that thing can get on full-blast, so I'll make sure to bring those games. Especially Smithereens - best party game I have in my whole collection, bar none. Gets 'em every time.

50 APX disks on eBay!?
Phosphor Dot Fossils replied to Phosphor Dot Fossils's topic in Atari 8-Bit Computers
Seems like this'd be surefire convert-to-cart material to me. (Easy enough for me to say - I don't even have a disk drive for my 400. ) -
OK, quick question for those attending OKGE and interested in the Odyssey2 (I know, I just narrowed this down to what, thee people?). What O2 games do YOU want to see? I've got some of the rarest ones such as Power Lords, Frogger and Loony Balloon, but which games to YOU want to play while you're there? I don't want to bring the whole collection, but I DO want to make sure that I'm bringing stuff that everyone wants to play.

"Blue Harvest"? I hear that's a game all about horror beyond your wildest imagination! How do I get one?
-
Anyone seen this? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...9&category=1250 Apologies if this would be better off in the eBay forum, but I thought it'd be of great interest to everyone in here (it's not my auction though!). Good grief, source code by Chris Crawford. That's been a while.

Y'see, that's me too. Typically, before buying something I'll try it out on an emulator. And through my emulator voyages, I've also amassed a "dream list" of games I'd like to get the genuine cartridges of just because they're so much fun. That was part of the reason I ponied up $30+ for Shuttle Orbiter this past spring - not because it's a rarity 6 or 7 or whatever it is (watch it be a 4 now that I've said that), but because I liked the game. Homebrews and new releases, however...kind of a different story. Safe to say I'll be getting as many of the CGE releases as possible, and I'm going to be buying large swaths of the AtariAge table at OKGE in September. But again, those I intend to take out of the box, stick into a cartridge slot, and PLAY. The thrill for me is seeing these things running for real on the old hardware, with their old graphics, and that old boxy 2600 joystick in my hand. It's magic, I'm tellin' ya.

*cough* *splutter* *choke* You're displaying a Quadrun cart OPEN END UP!!!?!? Erm...here is how I store mine, in a dandy $40 wood - well, okay, particle board - chest of drawers in that magical, mystical place known only as the Escape Pod. Truth be told, the "in-the-drawers" pictures (okay, I know somebody's gonna have a wisecrack about that one) are at least a year and a half old...they've gotten a LOT more crowded due to my collecting activity in the meantime.

What is the Atlantis and Comsic Ark connection?
Phosphor Dot Fossils replied to figgler's topic in Atari 2600
We might need to ask Rob Fulop on this, but wasn't there a third game at least at the concept stage to feature that little ship? Or maybe after a while it gets to be like a James Bond villain - at the end of every future Imagic game, we would've seen that damn little flying saucer take off. Lost your game of Shooting Gallery? Wheeeeee! There goes the little ship. Or maybe not.
