While I've been concentrating on getting GameCube games lately, I do pick up the odd Nintendo DS game and I got my latest one yesterday, my 15th game for Nintendo's 2-screen portable. This game is The New York Times Crosswords and is from Majesco, a company that (until now) I usually associated with doing re-issues of games. I've had a few short sessions with this game so far and I actually rather like it. It's a simple game and has some nice laid-back music and a couple of ways to play the game, either by tapping on a small visual keyboard or by writing the letter yourself in a black box in the corner of the screen. I actually pretty much already know what my 16th DS game will be, too, a Brothers In Arms war game that I think is coming out next week.

Have you ever read a novel based on a video game?
Rogmeister replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
To the best of my knowledge, I've never read one. I guess I feel if I'm going to read a novel, I'll read a "real" one... -
It seems there are a few games coming for the Cube that are based on animated feature films. There was Meet The Robinsons and I think Surf's Up is also coming out for it.
-
It was planned to be released...they probably sent out advance review copies out to certain sites and magazines which is probably how Nintendo Power came to review it. I only found out this morning that this game had been cancelled...it makes me wonder if any other GameCube games will be released. You'll probably say no but looking around at Gamespot, I keyed up Madden 08 and they listed that not only would this come out for the GameCube, but the PS2 and Xbox as well. Of course, IGN currently states that no announcement has been made as to just which platforms Madden 08 will actually be released on.

Below I will basically be reprinting what I previously wrote about my first ten DS games...plus I'll be adding four titles which I have bought since then. I guess 14 titles isn't a big collection but I'm not going for a complete collection... 1. Animal Crossing: Wild World is the sequal to the GameCube hit. I don't love it as much as I did the original. Maybe I'm just tired of the whole thing. 2. Konami Classics Series: Arcade Hits is another version of Konami's Arcade Classics (which came out on the PS1 years ago) but they've actually added more games...this collection has 15 games where the PS1 compilation had 10. Among my old favorites here: Scramble, Time Pilot, Track & Field, Circus Charlie and Contra. 3. Metroid Prime Hunters is one of my more recent purchases and I haven't really started playing it yet. 4. Metroid Prime Pinball was one of my first 5 games on the other hand and one I enjoy. I would like to see some more traditional pinball games come to the DS, however. 5. New Super Mario Bros. is terrific and one I played pretty much non-stop for a couple of weeks. 6. Nintendogs: Dachshund & Friends is one I like a lot but haven't played in awhile. I should get back to it soon. There's a cat version coming out (but not made by Nintendo as I recall) called Purr Pals. I'll pick that up, too, if it gets good reviews. 7. Purr Palls is basically a cat version of Nintendogs...it's by a company other than Nintendo so it may not be as good (I have yet to start playing it). 8. Puyo Pop Fever is the game I got yesterday. I got the GameCube version recently and enjoyed it so much that I decided to pick up this portable version of it. Added note: This is one of those addictive games where you just have to keep playing. I'm glad I got it. 9. Resident Evil: Deadly Silence is, despite the subtitle, basically a port of the first Resident Evil game. There is also an added mode for more intense action. I notice the game has subtitles which is odd since I can clearly understand the dialogue in this game. 10. The Sims 2 is my first Sims portable game. This is probably the next game I'll really try to get into on my DS. 11. Super Mario 64 DS is another game I need to get back to and play. I really like the Mario games, evidenced by how many I have, both on this and other systems. 12. Super Princess Peach is another game that takes place in the Mario universe. 13. Yoshi's Island DS is yet another. I haven't really played this yet...I hope Baby Mario doesn't bawl like he did in the SNES version...that was so annoying 14. Zoo Keeper was my first puzzle game on the system...I find it interesting that the two puzzle games I have for the DS are so far the only DS games I have made by a company other than Nintendo. I do need to get at least one more puzzle game. I think it's a law that every gamer has to have Tetris....

Thinking of getting an Gamecube any advise?
Rogmeister replied to kevin242's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I continue to buy GameCube games...in fact, it's basically all I'm buying these days apart from the odd DS game. GameCube games I've added to my collection recently include Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Mega Man X Collection, The Sims: Bustin' Out, The Sims 2, and TimeSplitters: Future Perfect. -
What system do you play the most right now?
Rogmeister replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
Someone responded to this which brought it up to where I saw it for the first time. This year I've mostly been playing two systems, the Nintendo GameCube and the Nintendo DS...and since I've mostly been playing the DS lately, that's what I marked down. -
Since my last entry, I've received two more games. One is TimeSplitters: Future Perfect which is the 3rd game of that series. This is the second entry to make the GameCube...I have TimeSplitters II on the Cube but the first game, TimeSplitters, only came out on the PS2, I think. I remember in TimeSplitters II (which is an FPS game) that you never saw your character's hands...your weapon (especially if it was a handgun) just seemed to float out there in midair. I wonder if they did anything about that in this follow-up? The other game I got was Peter Jackson's King Kong...it took me three tries but I finally got a GameCube version of this game. I also ordered a copy of The Sims 2 for the GameCube...plus I ordered the DS version of that game and the DS game Purr Palls. I'll consider them birthday gifts to myself but my birthday is tomorrow and I don't think they'll arrive until at least a day or two after that.
-
Yeah, I figured I'd take a chance on it and ordered it yestersday so I hope I enjoy it. Can my cat give me cheat codes?
-
Don't forget us crazy cat guys...
-
Yes, cats are nocturnal creatures. I wondere if I can also take my DS and lay it on my shoulder while I watch TV as that's a favorite spot for one of my two cats...
-
I'm thinking of getting a recent game for the DS called Purr Pals. As it's title suggests, it's a cat game...basically, a feline version of Nintendogs from what I understand. Unlike Nintendogs, there'll be just one edition of this game with 40 breeds to choose from. I'm thinking of getting it but would like to hear some thoughts first from people who have already played it. I only found one review so far at an online site (from the UK) and I think they gave it a 77 on a scale of 1-100. I know there was another game called Catz but I don't think that one got very good reviews overall. Of course, I could be mistaken about that.

If the question had been "Which Atari systems have you owned?", I would've named all but the PC-compatible ones. I currently own the 2600, 5200, Lynx and Jaguar...but I have also owned at one time or another the 7800, Atari 400 and XL computer and the ST computer.

eToys Sale - Buy One, Get One Free on Select Games
Rogmeister replied to mert's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yeah, I found one game I was interested in and it was $40. I forget which game that was now but I know I can find that game for less than half of that price elsewhere. -
Someone Doesn't Want Me To Have This Game
Rogmeister commented on Rogmeister's blog entry in Gaming With Rogmeister
I've never really played Ocarina of Time though I've certainly heard about it for many years. I'll doubtless be playing it soon. Regarding the King Kong game, I got an e-mail today that my copy shipped today. I'll soon know if I'm getting the right version this time... -

If I could've just deleted my extra messages, I would've but I can't seem to do that so I just changed the text in my extras to explain my little snafu... -

eToys Sale - Buy One, Get One Free on Select Games
Rogmeister replied to mert's topic in Modern Console Discussion
Yes it does. I went to my EB yesterday and bought Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time/Master Quest and Super Mario Strikers and got Mega Man Anniversary Collection free, all games are for the GameCube. I have never bought from eToys but maybe I'll go take a look... -
A month or so ago, I ordered Peter Jackson's King Kong for the GameCube. The seller had apparently put their listing in the wrong section as the game I received was the Xbox version of that game. I was told I could return it for a refund but I opted to keep it and pass it along to a friend. Last week, I again ordered this game for the GameCube. And today the order was cancelled. This is probably a case of the seller thinking he had the game but turned out he was mistaken. So now I've decided to order it directly from Amazon.com itself. If they can't get me a game, I'll know there's a real conspiracy here. I did get 4 games yesterday. I went to EB Games after I heard they were having a sale this week...a "Buy 2 Games, Get 1 Free" that applies to all used games. The three games I got are all GameCube games. I got The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (and Master Quest), Super Mario Strikers and Mega Man Anniversary Collection with the last listed being the one I got for free. Within an hour of arriving home, the UPS man made a delivery, bringing me the Nintendo DS game Konami Clalssics: Arcade Hits.

Puzzle games for the DS...Best?...Worst?
Rogmeister replied to Crazy Climber's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I may have to check out a few of these myself. I only have two puzzle games for the DS so far. One is Zoo Keeper which everyone has mentioned while no one's mentioned the other...Puyo Pop Fever. You may remember back in the 90s that this game was adapted for the SNES as Kirby's Avalanche (as well as a Genesis game as well). I like the game...I keep losing on the harder levels but I haven't destroyed the cart...yet. -
Which of the 'last gen" consoles do you own?

I like Soul Calibur...I also like Dead or Alive 2. I play them about equally, I guess. -
Konami Classics Series Arcade Hits for Nintendo DS
Rogmeister replied to LeafsFan47's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I went looking for this yesterday afternoon...it wasn't at any of my usual stores so when I got home I just ordered it from an online site. I guess I'll have it sometime next week. -
What is the best version of SSX for the Gamecube?
Rogmeister replied to kevin242's topic in Modern Console Discussion
I quick search at GameRankings.com seems to indicate that there are just 3 SSX games for the GameCube: Tricky, 3 and On Tour... -
After a few really horrible games, the Pittsburgh Pirates looked like they were dead in the water to me...then they started winning again and have now won 4 in a row. Their most recent win, yesterday, evened their record at 10-10 so if they can beat the Reds tonight, they can again have a winning record for the first time in a couple of weeks. A couple years ago, I had a project where I put money into a special bank account based on what the Pirates did (so much for a win, a homer, runs scored, etc.) with the idea being that that money would go towards buying myself a widescreen TV. I actually made enough money to do that but I never did buy that TV and the money remains to this day inside that account. Maybe I'll buy that TV eventually but I probably will never get around to it until my current TV goes out on me. This year, I decided to do a similar project which I have dubbed "The Pittsburgh Pirate Video Game Project". I don't have as many things to keep track of this time, though. The one rule is simple...for every 10 games the Pirates win, I allow myself to buy $50 worth of video games and I don't buy any games during the season apart from this. With their 10th win coming yesterday, I went out in search of games... I saw a game in a local store a week or so ago and immediately went to get that. It's "Mega Man X Collection" which includes 7 different games on one disc including a racing game featuring Mega Man and company that was never released in this country. The other game I decided I wanted was a compilation of arcade games for the portable Nintendo DS called Konami Classics Arcade Hits. Unfortunately, neither of the stores I went to yesterday had it so I ordered it online when I got home. These two games together totalled under $50 ($4.11 less to be exact) so I'll be enjoying those until the Pirates win their 20th game and it's time to buy a few more games... In the meantime, I do hope to get back to my GameCube reviewing which I got sidetracked on. I hope to review at least one game sometime this weekend.

Which of the 'last gen" consoles do you own?
Rogmeister replied to Rhindle The Red's topic in Poll Forum
I have all four. I have pretty much decided to now only continue to buy games for the GameCube though I already have just over a hundred games for the Dreamcast and nearly 80 for the XBox. I'm even thinking of selling off a good portion of my XBox library... I have 46 PS2 games, I think.
