  1. I really wonder what beyond, old, slow, huge, small, noisy can one write about the megafile...
  2. So here's the next version of quick extract. After some complaints about the distribution method this zip file has all the files you'll ever need. Just replace everything and it will work. What's new? 1. It now supports bz2 and tar.bz2 files. 2. Fixed bugs at tar.gz handling, it didn't work as it should but it will now. Hopefully any problems will be found by the users this time. The shortened version tbz isn't supported... i found no need but if you want it added just give me a shout, or even better fix it yourself. I am calling this a public beta because it's not extensively tested. I doubt it will cause any problems but you never know.. so use at your own risk.
  3. Another idea, which i don't know if it's feasible.. smaller icons for stlow.. (soon enough you'll be writing your own desktop if I have my suggestion way)
  4. Why not adding background images while you are at it?
  5. Just because you can do a thing, even in some horrible capacity, doesn't mean you should... Why not? Especially if you have fun doing it
  6. Yeah, I am pretty sure there is fortran 77 for the atari. Not sure where you can find it though.. Most people will use either C or asm, but others such as myself use GFA BASIC. Depending on what you want to do each has its own advantages.
  7. The usefulness of online access for an atari is for very few limited things. Getting a file, and reading documentation while developing. Also having an irc client running while developing can help very much as well.
  8. Ghostlink won't let you run executables and it's only for filetransfer.
  9. It's been over a few weeks since I decided to move over to Ubuntu from windows. I have a dual boot system but I booted on windows only twice. One time to check something in the hardware from a windows only program, and another to see if it still works. I think I can do all the things I want from that, at the moment at least. Unfortunately I didn't find something like dscaler in order to record videos for my youtube channel so I guess I'll have to learn mencoder. Avidemux seems to be a pretty good replacement for VirtualDub so you'll see some new videos soon. Another thing that really gave me trouble was mounting my falcon's ide2sd adapter and sdcard I use as hard disk. Even though it has two ext2 partitions and atari-partitions are compiled into the kernel it would refuse to see them no matter what I did. Fortunately ARANYM saved the day. All I needed was to change the IDE 1 settings (i used the xa-my-aes disk image for ide 0) and it worked! I also added a host folder as a hd and now I can transfer files easily. I used an external usb2ide adapter to connect it to my PC. I never managed to do that on windows. Last but not least, I found X-11 BASIC which is very similar to GFA. It's great to be able to use something so familiar. I already ported one of my programs, with the help of the language author of course..
  10. Yeah it can. You don't really get the best internet experience but it works. Good ideas are to not load images and use a resolution with 2 or if you really want 16 colours. It's ok for IRC and email but not for www.
  11. Nah, you just hit refresh 191 times and you know it!
  12. No, it's both the HD drive and a mod at the fdc.
  13. Why not just Object processor, 68000 (or 020), a blitter and an actual real dsp? That would make a lot more sense. TOM after all is the buggiest of all the chips and the only one that noone could actually program. And you don't even have to go to the 56K line of DSP's which were expensive. A cheaper one would do just fine.

Please show us the way and follow their example. btw: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=689178

    Shoot'em up

It takes too much time to develop something that pushes the hardware when you are working full time on that project. It takes a lot more time when you do it on your spare time. And at some point instead of a fun thing to do, it becomes another boring and stressful job.
  16. I think not. Maybe the jaguar people are more knowledgeable on the subject.
  17. There is one thing that needs to be remembered though. The ST was a big success!
  18. They are really nice pictures! How did you draw them? I think I'll have a go at making a very simple slideshow for the st, if that's ok with you.
  19. It's the aforementioned 060 upgrade. http://www.powerphenix.com/CT60/english/welcome.htm
  20. It's a bit of an ambitious project. You will most certainly develop skills to make it. Just note that an 8MHz st isn't very good for texture mapping, and neither is the amiga. Good luck though
  21. French STE's didn't have a modulator. Maybe some early american ones didn't either... A photo of the side with the EJP's could help. If it's an ste it should be an old model with maybe the bad DMA chip and perhaps SIPPs instead of SIMMS which would make upgrading to 4mb's a pain.
