Kick off II rules all over Sensible soccer. And the best football game I ever played is Goal!. Unfortunately it's very buggy....

I won't argue on the 16-bitness of the falcon, it will be like the 64-bitness of the jaguar all over again. However FPGA ST's have been made to some extend:

Cross posting from atari forum..
Hi,
I understand it's 2008, I understand that the ST/TT/Falcon line is as obsolete as it can be, I understand that noone in his right mind would want to use the ST as a full computer. But still, I find that doing some everyday tasks on my Ataris makes those tasks more fun. I also find that some people would like to do some stuff on their ataris but the process of finding the applications, installing them and working with them is tedious to say the least. So I thought of making a type of "Distro" with preconfigured applications. Mainly a big zip file that you can unzip on you c: and have a fully working computer the next minute (or a couple of hours for the unzipping
). This wip has now reached to a stalled level. I don't really know what other applications to add.. So I have a few questions:1. Would you install it?
2. Would such a thing help you use your atari more?
3. I'd prefer to use freeware, pd or opensource apps. Any suggestions?
So, help me design a distro.

Cymru
Noticed that someone on here was from Thessaloniki. My old Uni flatmate in Aberystwyth was from there. A great guy.
Heh, I guess that these places are in the UK? It's a small world

For the VGA cable try contacting Techie Alison (I believe she is a member here).
@Rockin Kat, I guess that if you keep an open mind you'll love the ST. It's a bit hard at start but after that... A good place to start is the atari st quick faq though a bit outdated (especially the links) is a good source.

I guess that smoking doesn't help on the phlegm thing but the ehm doesn't mean something like that

-
Ehm.. since there seem to be some misconceptions: http://joo.kie.sk/Go to atari then satandisk.
Hmmm, interesting, I'm a bit perplexed by this Q/A on your site however:
Q Well the pc be able to read the cards also?A Well, if you will create a DOS partition and will be able to read it on ST, then yes. Or on the PC you could create a image of the card and then use it with various software (Steem + Pasti, ARAnyM, (Linux ?)).
Steem v3.2 + Pasti.dll tested and it's working fine.
does this mean there is no easy way to transfer files back and forth between PC/MAC and the ST? Seems counter productive. What format does the SD card need to be formatted in and how is this accomplished? all SD and MMC cards I know currently on the market are formatted FAT16 or FAT32.
There must be a way to have some sort of easy reader/writer software that we can use to transfer files to and from the card... I would hope. Otherwise it would be rather pointless wouldn't it?
Ehhhmmm... it's not my site or h/w nor do I have it. I am using a serial link to transfer files.

A game called Grand Prix.. Top down view, one strange track.. didn't know what you were supposed to do...
-
Probably a megafile, it's a hard drive unit that has an RLL or MFM drive inside. ACSI the"standard" used by atari is a subset of scsi and I've seen a diy project for an adaptor.
-
Mark, that's the MegaSTE and not the MegaST as majinbuu has. http://www.old-computers.com/museum/comput...?c=165&st=1
-
Unless we are talking about a scsi adapter thing such as icd link or similar then scsi disks cannot be used.
-
Actually no, they came the same year. Anyway, the megaST is an ST with blitter which was not used by anything other than the OS at that time.
On the OP questions, a search in this forum will reveal various game lists. And the Amiga is a better game machine than the ST, just not that much better as the amiga users would like you to believe.
-
No, not out of the box you can't. You need an accelerator card that will replace the cpu since the 16 more pins of it are grounded... This however is a jaguar thread
. (And indeed it's very unfortunate that people that have no other interest to the machine apart from collecting (dust) seek it so actively).
-
Yeah, what I said was that if the bus was the main factor of bitness than the falcon would have been 16-bit. OTOH, the video bus there is 32-bit.
-
The 68000 has 32-bit registers but as already said the ALU is 16-bit. In the same sense one could consider the Falcon 16-bit since the data bus is 16-bit and the TT 64-bit. However atari marketed both computers as 32-bit. I won't argue that the jaguar isn't 64-bit, imho it's such a strange machine that its bitness can be defined only according to application. The main argument I read is that you can use the one 64-bit RISC as a main cpu and therefore you have a 64-bit machine. However I also read that this can only happen in a very specific and limited way. If I were to define the jag I'd say it's an advanced 32-bit machine, but I am not half as knowledgeable as some of the other posters.

Exophase, thanks for the interesting and analytical posts. A most interesting technical analysis.

Well, I've been using a jagpad with my falcon for some time now and I have to say it's not a bad controller. It just isn't good either. Like it was said it needs really big hands and it fills your hand more than it should. Also the response feeling and the overall quality feeling aren't the best. I prefer the psx pad to it.

Hey,
Let's start from the very beginning. The ST uses the Atari type of joysticks just like almost all other systems of the day. ST games have 3 mechanisms for them to be played, the joystick, the mouse and the keyboard. In general, platform, shoot em up and in general action games use the joystick, the mouse is being used by adventures, rpg's and strategy games and the keyboard by all type of games but most don't support it. Needless to say that flight simulators in general use all 3 ways...
so here is a small list.
RPG:
Dungeon master and Chaos Strikes Back (DM2)
Crystals of Arborea and Ishar trilogy
The Bard's Tale
Phantasie III
unfortunately rpg is not my thing so I don't know much
Adventure (this is
)Lucas Arts (Monkey Island, Indy III, Loom, Zack McKracken)
Cruise for a Corpse (brilliant)
Future Wars - Time travellers (awesome)
Black Sect
Maupiti Island
Operation Stealth
Shoot em up:
Wings of Death
Lethal Xcess
SWIV
Wolfenstein 3d
Xenon
Platform:
Turrican 2
Metro Cross
Gods
Zool
Rodland
Bubble Bobble
Various:
Another World (Action adventure)
No second prize (3d motorcycle racing simulator)
Frontier: Elite 2 (Space trading and fighting)
Just out of my head...

Oh don't worry about me, I can accept all sorts of comments
. I guess I didn't get your point correctly then? -
Don't you get to use a golf club, or something similar to it, in Double Dragon?
-
The point is very simple: You do something, you put it on display and people comment on what they feel towards what you do. It may be a simple paintjob, a simple piece of code (with great graphics and tune
) or a few videos on youtube. When we do or don't do something we are open to public criticism. So in reference to my comments. They are nothing more and nothing less than an honest interpretation of what I felt when I saw your pictures. And that was, that the first paint job (militaire) can only be combined with that kind of setting and the second reminded me of a gift rap gone bad, maybe if you used less tape... On your other point about the giving a breath of life, this happens every time you turn it on. So if this helps you to use it and be creative then it's great and please do what you feel.
-
The quality of the paint job is great. But I cannot not comment on the choices. I think that the first one would look good in an expo if you put on display games like War in the golf or some flight simulators. The second one the more I see it the more it looks like it's gift rafted or something. I understand the whole EVH concept but I still can't like it. I guess that if guitar hero ever makes an appearance on the ST, like it did in the C64, then it would have some point? Dunno...

Unfortunately lynx needs an fpu and is too slow on a 030 anyway. Highwire is way faster... I guess it's something to do with cookies management..
