  1. No, not out of the box you can't. You need an accelerator card that will replace the cpu since the 16 more pins of it are grounded... This however is a jaguar thread . (And indeed it's very unfortunate that people that have no other interest to the machine apart from collecting (dust) seek it so actively).
  2. Yeah, what I said was that if the bus was the main factor of bitness than the falcon would have been 16-bit. OTOH, the video bus there is 32-bit.
  3. The 68000 has 32-bit registers but as already said the ALU is 16-bit. In the same sense one could consider the Falcon 16-bit since the data bus is 16-bit and the TT 64-bit. However atari marketed both computers as 32-bit. I won't argue that the jaguar isn't 64-bit, imho it's such a strange machine that its bitness can be defined only according to application. The main argument I read is that you can use the one 64-bit RISC as a main cpu and therefore you have a 64-bit machine. However I also read that this can only happen in a very specific and limited way. If I were to define the jag I'd say it's an advanced 32-bit machine, but I am not half as knowledgeable as some of the other posters.
  4. Exophase, thanks for the interesting and analytical posts. A most interesting technical analysis.
  5. Well, I've been using a jagpad with my falcon for some time now and I have to say it's not a bad controller. It just isn't good either. Like it was said it needs really big hands and it fills your hand more than it should. Also the response feeling and the overall quality feeling aren't the best. I prefer the psx pad to it.
  6. Hey, Let's start from the very beginning. The ST uses the Atari type of joysticks just like almost all other systems of the day. ST games have 3 mechanisms for them to be played, the joystick, the mouse and the keyboard. In general, platform, shoot em up and in general action games use the joystick, the mouse is being used by adventures, rpg's and strategy games and the keyboard by all type of games but most don't support it. Needless to say that flight simulators in general use all 3 ways... so here is a small list. RPG: Dungeon master and Chaos Strikes Back (DM2) Crystals of Arborea and Ishar trilogy The Bard's Tale Phantasie III unfortunately rpg is not my thing so I don't know much Adventure (this is ) Lucas Arts (Monkey Island, Indy III, Loom, Zack McKracken) Cruise for a Corpse (brilliant) Future Wars - Time travellers (awesome) Black Sect Maupiti Island Operation Stealth Shoot em up: Wings of Death Lethal Xcess SWIV Wolfenstein 3d Xenon Platform: Turrican 2 Metro Cross Gods Zool Rodland Bubble Bobble Various: Another World (Action adventure) No second prize (3d motorcycle racing simulator) Frontier: Elite 2 (Space trading and fighting) Just out of my head...
  7. Oh don't worry about me, I can accept all sorts of comments . I guess I didn't get your point correctly then?
  8. Don't you get to use a golf club, or something similar to it, in Double Dragon?
  9. The point is very simple: You do something, you put it on display and people comment on what they feel towards what you do. It may be a simple paintjob, a simple piece of code (with great graphics and tune ) or a few videos on youtube. When we do or don't do something we are open to public criticism. So in reference to my comments. They are nothing more and nothing less than an honest interpretation of what I felt when I saw your pictures. And that was, that the first paint job (militaire) can only be combined with that kind of setting and the second reminded me of a gift rap gone bad, maybe if you used less tape... On your other point about the giving a breath of life, this happens every time you turn it on. So if this helps you to use it and be creative then it's great and please do what you feel.
  10. The quality of the paint job is great. But I cannot not comment on the choices. I think that the first one would look good in an expo if you put on display games like War in the golf or some flight simulators. The second one the more I see it the more it looks like it's gift rafted or something. I understand the whole EVH concept but I still can't like it. I guess that if guitar hero ever makes an appearance on the ST, like it did in the C64, then it would have some point? Dunno...
  11. Unfortunately lynx needs an fpu and is too slow on a 030 anyway. Highwire is way faster... I guess it's something to do with cookies management..
  12. Well nothing.. it just gets me back to the login page.
  13. Hi, This might not be a correct question but here it goes. Apart from the cookies stuff, does atariage use anything special for login purposes? I've been playing with highwire and thought I'd make a post from it but I couldn't login. Like I said a simple curiosity.. nothing more...
  14. Heh, I get the point... almost at least since Tron version and Doom does not compute. Anyway.. here's llamazap..
  15. Are you referring to Running (the game on my video)? Then it's no doom mod, just in the preview some doom monsters were used. You can see the platin shareware edition on another vid. On games that could be ported from the falcon to the jaguar, a direct and easy port would be virtually impossible. Falcon games are written for the 030 which has quite a few differences to the 68K used in the jaguar, most are made for 4MB's of RAM and use the DSP which is quite different to the jaguar one. Basically you'd need to rewrite the game though having the source would certainly help. On a related note I've uploaded another vid of a falcon game today and some more are coming as well. Check my sig for more details.
  16. Yes, I know! And no enhanced joystick ports.
  17. The megaSTE is an STE with 16MHz + 16Kb of cache.

    STOT website

My good friend kRadD has done it this time. The new STOT website is up at http://www.npoi.de/page.php?2 . Bookmark it and enjoy the content. Also not to let it slip by, this is your last chance to participate in STOT season 1. The final game is on and it's the Bitmap Bros classic Xenon II.
  19. Nope, there are differences. In the way the windows work for example, or the fact that tos 1.4 does real DOS formatting and some other stuff. Also some annoying bugs have been fixed. Also, when we say mega unless we specify STE we mean the MegaST which is just a repackaging of the original STFM with an updated TOS and blitter. Needless to say that the STE has a lot of differences in both hardware and TOS.
  20. Redb3ard, the problem was most likely that these games were designed for pal. The VBL has been used for all sorts of things in the past...
  21. An ST book is basically an ST. Therefore it must be possible to output the ST high mode which is as we all know VGA compatible. But I admit this is just an idea and it might not be possible at all.
  22. Just curious, but since STBook works in SThigh... wouldn't it be possible to retrofit a modern tft vga panel?
  23. OK. .ST and .MSA files are disk images in the same way that ISO's are CD-ROM images. So what you need to do is "burn" the images to the real medium. Which in our case is a floppy disk.
  24. *.ST and *.MSA are completely irrelevant to Satandisk.
