New Atari 1040 STF user with questions...
Christos replied to Mark Wolfe's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Taking the screws of an ST and most importantly puting them back is never an easy task. -
Edited to reflect reality..

Back in Outline 08 my good friend beetle (whom you all know by his moto: Have you modded atari today?), showed me on his laptop a BASIC program that an Amstrad CPC scener had written on his laptop (yeah, I mean THAT laptop). So I took over the task to port it to the ST GFA BASIC. Most of the work was done on site but today I revisited it. Beetle wants it to become a screen saver, but since I don't really know how to do that yet, here is worms vs 0.5. Enjoy. Music replay routine by gwEm/phf, music by Jess (as ggn said). Original code: An Amstrad CPC scener whose name I don't know or can't remember. ST port and additions: Yours truly.

Well EU prices == US prices if you substitute Euros with Dollars

They are ACSI devices and the Falcon doesn't have an ACSI port... therefore no. But they are also not needed for the falcon.

Hi, Regular readers will know about STOT. After Outline 08 we started a series of 3 newly released games for the Atari ST line of computers. The three games are Dma-Sc's Manical Drop, Sh3-rg's Sudokunivers and now is concluded with Piccrosst. Read more about them at the official STOT forum over at atari-forum.com. It works now! But I already found a bug... lol. In this video the url has a "v" so I think this gets blocked somehow. EDIT: Cancel that. My mistake probably! Great job Albert. Many thanks

Hi and thanks! How exactly is one supposed to use it?

Sorry if this has been addressed before but a quick search revealed nothing. Would it be possible to embed youtube videos in blogs? I wanted to include some of my videos at some blog posts and although linking works I think it would look better if embedded. Thanks

Adding an ST to my home studio, some questions...

I can't really answer any of your questions. So here's a link... Tims Atari Midi World -
Wolfenstein 3d. Atari ST. Played on a Falcon
Christos replied to bdog_147's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Because it's 0.8Beta. If you can see how the crashes happen it will be a good idea to send Ray a bug report. -
TT030 compatibility and capacities
Christos replied to Michel's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
There are 3 videos. Two are mine (the bad ones) the other is from a CT63 falcon. Read the descriptions. And I also describe it for the Atari. In the blog you can also find the same thing for Sting (single TOS tcp/ip stack). All is explained, I hope well. EDIT: A null modem cable is an industry standard, I even found one in a supermarket a year or so ago. -
Screen flipping.. yeah not bad idea. That also means that your graphics need to be well designed so all doors and corridors will need to be put with in the 320x200 st screen. I can advice you to take a look at gauntlet and gauntlet II and the solutions used there (though it is more action based). Not trying to be a party spoiler, just to give my insight.

TT030 compatibility and capacities
Christos replied to Michel's topic in Atari ST/TT/Falcon Computers
Applications are not incompatible, most games are. Some games have been patched for TT compatibility. For transfering files you can use a null modem cable and ghostlink. Also for internet access you can use some of the following solutions: Ethernec/Netus Bee: Cartridge port ethernet solution Ethernea: ACSI port Daynalink: SCSI port SLIP/PPP: null modem. For the last one check this -
I will quote from the alt.binaries.sounds.mods FAQ v2.6 part 1/2 I know I am way out of my league here since all I know is the code to call mod replay but it seems to me like to do what you are thinking there need to be some samples (instruments) stored somewhere in the chip. This is a fundamental difference between sound chips like the YM 2149 or the SID and Paula. Why do I post here? Well I am thinking of getting a jag (missed one going for 30 Euros yesterday ) and do the bjl mod. Then will try test my ST code there, maybe port STOTro .
-
Well, someone more experienced can correct me but in most times a mod is made out of small samples which are being replayed at the described frequency. Midi on the other hand is just a set of instructions passed to an instrument. So for Seb to use midi he would need to emulate the instrument while on mod just to replay the samples.
-
Well, just tested the tempest mods, on my falcon and falcamp (dspmod) and pc and winamp... The only difference I can pinpoint is due to the bass boost on the falcon (but playing a bit with the subwoofer kind of gave the same result).
-
While I may not know much about the jag... a mod is a mod. It should sound pretty much the same where ever you play it. Be it on an STE, Amiga, Falcon, PC, Mac. But musicians are strange people!

I can see 3-4 problems already. First it's STOS. Unless you are making a puzzler or a turn based strategy it's quite inefficient. The second one is that you are planning to do something that has sideways scrolling (from the concept art). Not a very good idea when we are talking about the ST. Still it can be somewhat overcomed with a lot of effort and for an RPG where fast paced action isn't a requirement. Then I understand you want to use sampled music? Again not a very good idea, even for STE. Try to limit samples to the minimum. Also try to keep in mind that your target group is a 1040ST user without hard drive and it's very easy to break the limit and not realise it (I know). That's about it.
-
Can't you stream from the CD?
-
It's nice for concept art. Not sure how well it would play out on an ST environment. About the RPG thing.. I don't like RPG's (except Ishar) so I can't really comment.

Here is a new blog series I am going to start. I'll be presenting software, applications and utilities mostly, that I use (new stuff in most occasions). It's going to be just a teaser hopefully something that will get people trying the stuff. So here are the two first: Highwire: Highwire is an open source and pretty fast browser that is: HTML 4 compliant Supports tables, Framesets, caches for images etc. Has CSS support. Among others Here are two videos showing it off. The first is mine from a standard falcon 030 with offline browsing. The second is from evil/dhs from a ct63 falcon. Be impressed. Linky. The second is AtarIRC by the GFA meister LP. AtarIRC is a gem IRC client that has all features that any IRC user might need. Here's a screenshot from my falcon.

Why don't you just put a pc drive inside? I would think that in a 314 it would be possible to do that.

I don't know.. it wasn't on my disks
