The 2014 Atari 2600 Collectors Hall of Fame vote
bfstats replied to nofrills100's topic in Atari 2600
This is most apropos. "Collecting" and "collections" can take any forms. A collection of ROM images, collecting valuable data, then sharing it ALL with the community through a comprehensive venue, make Rom Hunter worthy of MUCH recognition, in my humble opinion. Congrats, Rom! Well deserved. -
Bought his homebrew Failboat. A pleasure to correspond with, plus he threw in an extra PC game he designed himself. Highly recommended member of - and contributor to - our community!

The 2014 Atari 2600 Collectors Hall of Fame vote
bfstats replied to nofrills100's topic in Atari 2600
That is an excellent and VERY comprehensive list, but to set the record straight, I didn't buy my first Atari game until 1981 so I am certainly NOT "THE original Atari 2600 collector". Perhaps Leonard Herman deserves that monicker. However, between '81 and '90 I did go BUZZ-ERK acquiring everything I knew existed for the 2600. It wasn't until this web site and CGE 1999 that I found out how much I had missed - and have been trying to make up for it since. Thank you for the kind words, though. -
More contributions, Tempest. Excellent! On your Protos page for Rubik's Cube, you say: "While the game appears to be the same as the final release, this prototype is 8K. The final release was only 4K, so one has to wonder what they needed the extra space for?" At PRGE 2013, Joe DeCuir said that while developing games for the 2600 AFTER Intellivision hit the market, to save money Atari bought defective 8k chips instead of good 4k chips because they were SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, then utilized the functional 4k portions of the defective chips where possible. This may be the answer to your Rubik's Cube prototype question.

Yeah, I can imagine how tedious it must be. Not sure I'd have the patience you have to tackle so many unknowns. As previously documented, your efforts are MUCH appreciated.
-
You have us all spoiled, Tempest. Isn't it YOUR JOB to figure that out?!
-
THAT sounds like a plan!!! Please count me in.

If there is to be a boxed Sharknado game, count me in. Also, what was the Elvira game and can it still be acquired? I seem to have missed it.
-
Bumping an old thread, but I JUST discovered Elf Adventure. Thank you, Scott, for several more significant contributions. Thank you, Nukey, for the ROM fix. Tempest, it's not on your site. Did you ever "look into it"?

Making Your Own Atari Game Boxes -- The Definitive Guide
bfstats replied to Peter G's topic in Atari 2600
As a devotee (and collector) of the homemade-yet-professional-loooking box, I am quite impressed! Shows ingenuity and dedication that are worthy of note. If I can ever get my hands on a Failboat cart, I just might offer to PAY you to make one of your boxes for me. Imagine getting paid to do something you love... well, paid a nominal fee, anyway. Keep up the good work, Sir! -
Can't imagine an easier transaction. Friendly communication, fast payment, prompt follow-ups. A pillar in our community.

Passionate collector (the best kind!). Great communication, fast payment. An asset to the community and a pleasure to do business with.

The OFFICIAL pre-order page for SPACE RAID ATARI Homebrew
bfstats replied to coleco_master's topic in Atari 2600
Payment sent July 24th for CBS version. -
Atarimania's scans of both carts show no discernible differences on the labels. Only way to be sure is to plug it into an NTSC TV and see if the picture rolls. PAL carts are MUCH more common than NTSC.
-
For what it's worth, I sold NTSC Glacier Patrol and Universal Chaos together, carts and manuals only, a few years ago for $300.

Since interest in Video Life CIB and MagiCard loose has been favorble, the owner has decided to proceed with the sale here on Atari Age. You'll find the Marketplace threads for Video Life here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228379-video-life-cib-by-commavid-for-sale/ ...and MagiCard here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228381-magicard-cartridge-by-commavid-for-sale/ Deadline to make offers is this Thursday evening, August 7th. Thanks to everyone for their input!

What you see here is the original MagiCard cartridge, published by CommaVid, not a reproduction. It has been owned by only one individual, a good friend for 32 years, who purchased it direct from CommaVid back in the day. I was present when he acquired it, and I stand behind him AND the authenticity of this rarity. Documentation and testing was done by me on July 26th. You can find all the other details about it here: http://atariage.com/forums/topic/228100-video-life-and-magicard-found-need-advice/ CARTRIDGE: SCREEN: FIVE parties have expressed specific interest. To those who wish to make offers, please submit them to me (bfstats) via PM. The deadline to make offers will be 11:00pm Eastern time on Thursday, AUG 7th. The seller has specified a reserve for MagiCard and Video Life (posted in a separate thread) COMBINED. The number of participants, status of the reserve, and the current highest offer will be updated continually via PM until the deadline. If the reserve is met, MagiCard will be sold to the person making the highest offer by the deadline. PayPal payment may be made to me on the seller's behalf. I will pack and ship it anywhere in the world at the SELLER'S expense, plus he will insure it. Be advised, the USPS insurance limit is $5000 of value. Thanks to all who have expressed interest. Please post questions on this thread or via PM.

PM sent.

I resized the other 9 photos and here they are: Specific damage to the Video Life box (crease, dent, puncture, rip, scrape)... Bleeding rust on the staples of the Video Life manual (due to water damage)... Screenshots... They were tested on my modded 6-switch to accommodate the widescreen. Note you're getting a glimpse of The Atari Wall (FINAL version), still in progress.

And what of the "Unknown Universal Prototype", Ken. I STILL think that was intended to be Six Pack.
