  1. Hey Swingin -

Are these optical encoders or mechanical? From what I've read, Tyrants have a "clicky" feel to them which I would prefer not to have, since the original Tempest didn't have that. I built an arcade stick and have the old 2600 driving controller in it. If you've got extra encoders I'd like to replace the one I've got if you wouldn't mind selling one separately. Let me know.

BTW, these guys sell reproduction Tempest rotary knobs:

$16 each is kind of cost-prohibitive for resale, but maybe you could buy in bulk and get a discount?

    Good luck with the project!

  2. Hey Lars - it looks like you're going to have some white borders on the posters. CafePress is very specific about the sizes of your images for it's products, so you might want to grab a few templates from their site to make sure everything is going to come out the way you want.

I've had a CafePress shop for a few years now so I've had some experience with them. If you've got any questions just let me know.

  3. I went last year as a vendor, but won't be selling anything this year since they decided we had to pay sales tax on everything. For a small-time seller (I was just selling some spare stuff from my collection to help recoup the costs of the show), it is a pain to have to deal with. So there will be one less vendor and one more "show off" there this year, unfortunately.

  4. Take apart one of the pots from the joystick that you removed.  You can see the round spring and fabricate a new one from the before mentioned Atari 2600 cart door spring.

I will take you up on your offer there .. and the joystick that you removed too!  People always need joystick parts.

Also how long is the screw on stick shaft on the RS stick?

Ok, PM me your address and I'll send it out.

The stick shaft on the RS stick is probably twice the length of the Vectrex stick, and about half the diameter.

New project for tonight - dissassembling joystick pots :)

  5. Did you break the Vectrex controller apart to get it open?

You do know all you have to do to get to the screws is peel off the label, right? (or punch holes in it)

Yeah, the label was already off the one I got - I just unscrewed it to take it apart. Any breakage was already in place before I got it.

  6. I just ordered a deluxe stick so I'll see if it's as easy a swap as the standard joystick.

    Not compatible at all!

BTW: Thanks for the pics! You should be able to add springs to the pots to make them self-centering.

Did you break the Vectrex controller apart to get it open?

Bummer - oh well, any tips on adding springs to the pots? Never done anything like that so if there's a walkthrough guide out there that would be a huge help. I have a second TRS-80 joystick that I took apart - if you want I can send you the joystick mech from it to experiment with. Seems like you know your way around a Vectrex controller ;)

The controller was already beat up when I got it, no label on the front or back, hinges cracked, etc. So it was a good one for me to open up and play around with :)

  7. Ok here are a few pics of the Tandy/TRS-80 joystick - pictured here it's already installed in my Vectrex controller. As you can see it's just a basic swap to get it installed - all the screws line up and everything.

  8. I took some pictures when I was swapping out the sticks, they're at home so I'll post them later. I even replaced the black stick with the original vectrex silver stick, so from the outside you can't even tell that it's not original. Well aside from the whole not self-centering thing.

I just ordered a deluxe stick so I'll see if it's as easy a swap as the standard joystick. Here's hoping. I'll post back here after I get it and open it up.

  9. I read online somewhere that the TRS-80 joysticks have the same stick as the Vectrex controller, so I dug out my old TRS from my mothers basement and cracked open a controller. The ones I have look like this:

They do have a very similar stick, but they do not self-center unfortunately. Also, they have a greater range than the Vectrex joystick so if you push them all the way to the edge it starts going the opposite way!

The "harness" things that you're looking for, JR, are the same though - so you might be able to swap them out.

Does anyone know if the deluxe joystick has a similar stick? It looks like it self-centers so it might be a better replacement:

  10. Imagine playing Minestorm with a Starplex 5 button controller!

First I've heard of this - just got one of the modified Genesis controllers - what is the Starplex? Got a link to more info?

    Thanks!

  11. Well Duranik does have a DC in the header graphic on their website, but I haven't seen any other info on the site about any DC projects.

I'll be all over this if it gets released. Would be nice for the Jag (or NUON as was planned too), but any finished version of Native is better than none!

  12. Yeah the IS3 DVDs that I sent out for free were exactly the same as the ones that came in the full DVD boxes. VML just had spindles of these and didn't want them to go to waste, so they mailed them to me and I sent them out to everyone who wanted one, until they were gone.

  13. Couldn't you have just used photoshop and overlayed "demo" on a blank part of the label instead of ruining them with a sharpie marker?!? :?

I could have just told VM Labs that I didn't want to be bothered with keeping track of names/addresses and the distribution of the discs. They wanted the writing on the discs, not me. If it were up to me nothing would be on them.

  14. Hey,

Just like mine, only mine has a load of scratches all over the back.

However, now I've seen the black CD I'll have to have one of those.

K3V, could you post a photo of the NUON IS-3 here for comparison?

    Cheers,

    JustClaws.

Looks the same as the regular version, minus the sharpie marker, courtesy of yours truly ;)
