  1. Anyhow my real question:

How.. ..?... actually does the Rorary work when it comes to the Extra levels in Tempest? ...I mean is the Up/Down/L/R thing still usable under that knob, or? ....it must be right? or there would be no way to play the extra levels in T since some of them require U/D action.... (though most action is L/R, but still).

A&C act as up and down and the rotary controls right and left during the bonus levels. Pretty difficult to navigate using this setup but at least it (somewhat) works.

Oh, and before someone asks - a controller in port #2 lets you put in your initials for a high score :D

  2. One other item that wasn't mentioned is since copying Jaguar CD's has become much easier with today's technology, I'm sure T-bird would hesitate even if it was an "easy" process releasing a CD.  He's mentioned it before at JSII.

Actually Linko mentioned it in the post right above yours :P

  3. Well jagfest.atari.org was around for years before jagfest.org. Not that I don't think both can exist but jagfest.org certainly isn't the original Fest site ;).

Unfortunately I wasn't able to update the jagfest.atari.org site this time since it's no longer in my control. It used to be hosted on the Jagu-Dome server which I had access to, but the entire site got moved over to JustClaws' server. I don't know if he plans on keeping the Fest section up to date or just there as a historical archive, in which case we should keep an ongoing record of upcoming events somewhere in a central location. In that case jagfest.atari.org should be updated to point to jagfest.org for current events.

  4. CRIPES, why does every Jag game ever made since Atari gave up on it have to be rare? And why THAT rare? All the Songbird games are bad enough at $70 - $80 apiece, but at least that isn't as absolutely insane as Battlesphere. How much was it when it first came out anyway? It was over $100 even then, wasn't it? I still say the new Jag game market today is just an excuse to rape all the diehards who are foolish enough to pay any price for a new Jag game. No other dead system that I know of has aftermarket games as expensive as the Jag does. It's really pathetic.

Well there's always the Neo Geo I suppose. :D

  5. The issue isnt how big the wheel is, but how many teeth it has, and it dosnt seem to talk about that on either type. However, its talking about interfacing it to a pc running mame, so I'd assume it has roughly as many teeth as your average mouse, which is too many.

But, as I just said, it shouldnt be that hard to make your own wheel :)

True. Ok, well I'll give it a shot :) It has to be better than having to spin the 2600 driving controller 800 times to get around the web once ;)

  6. Hmm... that apears to be optical. You may not get the results you're expecting with that unless you build a custom encoder wheel with less teeth, as most optical encoders will be stupidly over-sensitive for a Jaguar. The ones I use are mechanical but have 36 steps, you might want to aim for something close to that as it seems to me at least to be the perfect level, not too sensitive, so you can move slowly, but nice and responsive when you want to move quickly too. I've only once played on a JediJeff one (which are optical), but it was a very different expierence as the sensitivity was so high.

Hmm, ok...maybe I'll look into something else then. A true Tempest rotary seemed to be a perfect fit in theory, but might not in practice. Would have been nice to have an in-game sensitivity adjustment :)

I'll talk it over with Stephen too - I know he's building one of his own for the show so I'll see what he's using.

    Thanks!

  7. No clue. Stephen Anderson is going to wire it into my arcade stick for me at JagFest later this month :) The one I built just has the standard 2600 driving controller in it, but I'm not a big fan of its performance on T2K. Here's what the stick looks like now though:

Yeah, it's basically a huge box but there's plenty of room to work inside and gave me room to add pinball flipper buttons on the sides.

Maybe Stephen can provide some install instructions after he gets mine wired up. That'd be cool info for everyone to have I think.
