  1. I just got done writing this story in a PM to Saturn ;)

IS3 was released briefly (complete with box, instructions, etc), but then was recalled because it would lock up on earlier NUON machines. In the interim, VM Labs contacted me to see if I would distribute the "flawed" disc-only copies of IS3 that they had sitting around the office, as a way of saying thanks to the NUON fanbase. I was told to write "Demo - Not for Resale" on all of them because they didn't want to hurt future sales of the game by giving the disc-only ones away, and so there wouldn't be any confusion on eBay, etc of people trying to pass them off as the corrected version.

So the complete boxed copies are very hard to find, the disc-only copies a little less so. But neither is going to be easy to find, I can tell you that much :) And, despite saying "Demo" the disc-only copies are the complete game.

  2. Thanks for all the replies.  So it sounds like getting a NUON might be worth it.  How many games were made in all for the system?  The ones I know of are Merlins Racing, Tempest 3000, Freefall, and Space Invaders XL.  Is that all of them?  Also do the systems come with controllers?

Add IS3, The Next Tetris and Ballistic and that's all the commercially released games. There are a bunch of downloadable games at NUON-Dome, like Doom, Pac Man, etc.

Had to get the cheap plug in there ;)

  3. Could it be the laser strength?  Wasn't IS2 burned onto cheap CDR's?

    Tempest

Only the first batch, which had a yellow printed paper CD label on it. The later releases were pressed with a black screen-printed label, which is what it sounds like Mendon has.

  4. On a seperate note, is it easy to hook up a Jaguar with a Catbox to a regular computer monitor?  I've never tried, but I've been really wanting to play, but the only place I have at my apartment for it would be rigged up with everything else to my monitor  :)

It won't work with a regular VGA monitor since it uses a different refresh rate. There is a list of compatible monitors in the CatBox manual, but I've personally used the Atari SC1224 and 1435 and loved both.

  5. Both are cool games that push the Jag graphically, but I think of the two I've played Zero5 more. Guess I'm more of an arcade shooter guy ;)

And besides, there are plenty of mission-based games on the Jag. Zero 5 is a nice change of pace from the rest.

A rapid fire controller definitely helps though!

  6. Now to find someone who can/will copy this baby. :)

    Hey, I got it. :D

I guess it was more common than I thought. ;)

I got the key today and it works! Woohoo! Thanks again, Saturn.

Now I just need to get one of those cool Jaguar hologram keychains from Go Atari ;)

  7. maybe we can start a petition on this?

im sure theres enough people on AA who would love to see this game finished.

A petition won't do any good if Duranik doesn't have the time or desire to finish the game.

My guess is that they'll finish the game on their terms, if they feel like it. Look at how they worked on Alpine Games behind the scenes for so long and then showed it to the public once it was almost ready to be released. They'd probably do the same with Native should they decide to finish it up.

  8. You can find the JagLinks pretty easily on E-bay.  Snag one there.  It will include everything you need to hook them up.  The JagLink 2 required the regular Jaglink in order to work.  The next step up is the Catbox or Scatbox, both of which are quite pricey (over $100 each).  The Jaglink can be had for around $20 or less.  Hope this helps.

    Jason

Actually, you don't need an original Jaglink to use a Jaglink 2. It works just fine with one Jaglink 2 on each Jaguar you're networking - that's usually how I run my networked games since my original Jaglinks are a bit flaky.

  9. The originals mine came with are Dino Dudes, Raiden, Trevor McFur and Cybermorph. The bottom two panels have hardware specs of the Jaguar itself. Most likely mine was a very early kiosk since it has the launch games on it.

I had made some other inserts of the more recently-released games (BattleSphere, Soccer Kid, Hyper Force and Protector), which was simply a matter of scanning the boxes, reducing to the correct size, and printing them out. About a week ago I put the orignals back in, though, since I'm trying to restore this baby :)

  10. Wow, great match there Saturn!

Hey, I've got a question on the keys used for the kiosks. Were they all the same? Because I don't have the key for mine and I won't be able to put the plexi in place because it's in the closed position.

If they're all the same, can I convince anyone who actually has one to make me a copy? I would pay for it, of course. :)

  11. I got this game around December 12th last year and after having played many hours (not consistently, heh) I have yet to make it past stage ten. Don't let that have you believe it's too hard or impossible, though, because some people have beaten the game in a matter of days.

Dude, the first time I played SE I got to level 39. U suk OMG LOL!!!

Well, I did play an insane amount of the original Protector, so that probably helped. ;)

  12. "bortable?" That's a good one.  :D

Fixed. And hey, I did say pardon any typos :)

Did they sound condescending? Those articles usually do. "Why would anyone want a new game for the Atari 2600? Don't they know the graphics suck? Why won't they buy a PS2 instead?"

I just gave the article a quick glance, but it didn't seem condescending to me. Hey, they devoted a full page to the subject, so that seems sincere enough to me.

Forgot to mention that there's also a screenshot of Painter, and mentions for Atari Age and the Goat Store. Pretty cool.
