I disagree: when a system is no more supported by its owner, companies stop making games for obvious reasons and stores start selling defunct systems and games at lower price to clear their stocks.

I played two Hexen demos lately to see how great they are. The first one, it doesn't have an autoplay demos. I found it from a CD magazine. Those screenshots shows an old demo when the switch in the seven portals hub is on the other side and the word "BETA" is on the screen. I downloaded the last version from ID software just in case it can be completed. These screenshots came from the last version of Hexen demo. Unlike other games in this time, Hexen demos cannot be completed. Even if you cheat and can pass through walls, none of the portal can make you to complete the game. I would like to hear or read the story about Hexen demos why they cannot be completed.
