Thankfully, the alarm you raised was a false one. No, they're not closing. As that article from last July says, they're removing the ability to add funds with a credit card. Other ways to add credit to your balance though remain active.
The alternate method that's most obvious is to buy a prepaid Nintendo card from a local store or online retailer and simply redeem the code on the eShop. In fact that's how the vast majority of my digital 3DS and Wii U purchases have been funded through the years, although I have added funds directly with a credit card once or twice.
The other method is adding credit to one's 'Nintendo Account' on a Nintendo Switch if that account is linked to the user's Wii U/3DS 'Nintendo Network' account. If the individual then selects on the Switch eShop to merge their funds with their Wii U/3DS account, that balance on their Switch account will be accessible on all three systems. A convenient option if one owns a Switch and likes not having to go buy a code elsewhere and then manually input it in order to add the credit to their account.

@Serguei2 Merely a joke, Poking fun at adults who are so joined at the hip to their iPhones...They remind me of Linus and his security blanket.

PS Not saying cell phones don't have their place (And they are Amazing time wasters in certain situations!),...But when I see people walking down the street with their head buried in a phone;...It boggles my mind. Even if you needed to, say, send a text; Couldn't you just send the text first and then enjoy the scenery?

It was a joke about 2600 adventure, in the status bar I could not see any image so it was just a response based on the text... which was kind of vague without the image All in good fun, no worries. FWIW I've always wanted to put more time into Montezuma's Revenge. I've played it a bit on the Apple 2, but never got very far.

Actually met William S. Burroughs once. He lived the last 15 years of his life or so in a very college town...Lawrence, KS...not far from the Kansas City suburbs where I grew up. My brother was somewhat of a beatnik in the late 80's/early 90's and was in school at the University of Kansas and ran in some of the same circles. An unpleasant man....
Fun Fact for those that didn't read Naked Lunch: The name of the band Steely Dan comes from the book. It was the name of an overpowered strap-on dildo...

It reminds me, I wonder if anyone has tried/succeeded in patching Bandits to run on PAL systems. I'm afraid it too closely related to the raster beam to make that a non-trivial task. A few other games like some Imagic ones exist in both PAL and NTSC versions. The majority work on either, as long as you adjust the screen positioning though.
