  1. I ordered about a week before the sale everyone here must have been anticipating. Unfortunately I was 7 days early and two dollars short (literally!) to qualify for the bonus cart. I wish I had gotten a time machine for xmas!

I love the games I got, though!

    Hunchy II

    Thrust+platinum

    Skeleton+

    Castle Wolfenstein

  2. I just followed the link for the USB version in Classic's post.

Now i am just waiting for that and my controller rebuild kits (bad fire buttons) so I will never be bored again.

    Thanks again, kind sir.

  3. Please see above edited post for more intrigue.

It's obvious what is going on, not much intrigue value. This happens quite often and unfortunately people do end up paying more than what something should be worth for a better lack of knowledge. This is what happens when a seller gets greedy. Unfortunately, it could even be a current or new lurking AA member trying to hide behind the cover of a new user ID on eBay doing this, because if an existing member did this out in public they would probably get blasted by the community.

I just got my first 5200 with Pac-Man and Frogger, and was looking for something fun I have not seen on the 2600. I am very leary of many of these sleazebay sales. I have had problems with 2600 sellers too, and I appreciate the heads up about these alleged 5200 repros. I

It sucks that people can't just be honest.

  4. I read that this was a prototype, but here it is for sale:

    or this?

    post-11963-1167324512.jpg

Is this a scam, repro or for real? Exactly the same vague text:

"(insert game) for the Atari 5200. Can't say a whole lot more about it. Actual item shown. Digital artifacts are due to jpg compression. Label and cart are mint. Thanks for bidding."

  5. This is just my opinion, but I find my heavy sixer and oldest light sixer accept the carts more solidly. My other one (a slightly newer light sixer) and especially my Vader 4 switch allow the carts to wobble from regular bumpings, which causes game interruption and maddening picture distortion. I personally believe it is due to the heavier construction of the guts on the heavy.

I also am just completely in love with her lines. Its like when all the cool 70's muscle cars were turned into compacts in the 80's, with the requisite loss of quality manufacturing. They lost there status and character, but kept the name.

  6. I am not trying to demonize the fella that sold me the thing. I just want to educate people about a posibly destructive practice as far as archival integrity goes.

I give the benefit of the doubt to most of these ebay sellers, but the ones that know better need a good shaking (to quote Chris Rock.) I will not take crap from any ebay seller and usually get what I pay for.

I may be in their shoes soon, as I have a whole lot of duplicate stuff to sell, so I prefer not to condemn anyone. I am very pleased with the product that badbrad sold me otherwise.

  7. Thats 'kay, Wester, I love her just the same, despite the fact that she does get around. Is this a new thing on the list, or is it common for listed serials to turn up after ebay purchases? (I did not read every post, I admit, cuz theres like 16 million pages up to my recent intro.)

  8. Here is a picture of mine:

Unfortunately the sticker is illegible on camera. I wish the guy I bought it from would have taken it easy on the furniture polish. Is that a standard practice for sellers, or is it frowned upon?

  9. Reactor doesn't actually support the ball, but with the ball set to JS and the diff switch set to A, you get a pretty good experience.

Thank you for that tip. I do not currently have Reactor, but perhaps soon.

Just the same, is there a way to switch between joystick to Trak-Ball and verse-vise that would not destroy the integrity of the original equipment that I have? (broken record plays on and on and on and on...) :dunce:

  10. That's not exactly true. ;)

I was only referring to original games. I am aware of the (homebrew?...pardon my ignorance) version from reading the site you quote. I did try the original Missile Command with the Trak-Ball in both positions and had my sadness confirmed.

Please, sir, enlighten me on new games, both hacks and homebrews, that support my new toy. I would be most grateful!

  11. I recently acquired an all black NIB 2600 Trak-Ball, only to discover what most here already know, that there is not a single game designed to use it in TB mode. I was so looking forward to arcade like Centipede action, that the discovery of it only working in JS (and very sluggishly, at that) was a real heartbreak.

I took someone on the forums advice and tried Decathalon with it in JS mode. A sports game I always hated is now super awesome action fun-time that I really break a sweat to. I also tried it with California Games, and found that the footsack game works super, skateboarding sucks, BMX sucks, and surfing, a game I could never get the hang of, is saved. What I would like to know: is there a way to connect both a joystick and Trak-Ball without unplugging or destroying either cord so that I can switch mid-game.

I am also going to try the Trak-Ball with Winter and Summer Games. I think it will add an element that is missing, while not completely thrashing my re-built joysticks.

    Any advice would be helpful.

  12. Thanks for the kind greeting, Wester!

I will post a picture of it tomorow. I do not think the sticker will be very legible though, on the moniter. I believe the person who sold it to me used some kind of furniture polish on it to make it look pretty, but alas, it soaked into the sticker, darkening it. At least it did not fall off.

I do most of my hunting at thrift shops, but there are still a couple of clankity used game stores that forgot about their Stella carts on a high dusty shelf. I have also had a mixed bag of luck with ebay, but also some real shysters or just plain ignorant people mis-representing the things they hawk.

    Type at you later.

  13. Greetings,

I don't wanna butt in, being all green and all, but I just recieved my first of probobly dozens of shipments of high quality games (Thrust+, Castle Wolfenstien, Hunchy II, and Skeleton+.) I have only been collecting Atari for a little over a month and had no idea new games existed. My GF and I cannot get enough of Thrust+. The addiction which I have found in this hobby over a short period of time is amazing. I am assuming Albert is the guy responsible for much of this, to which I say a Great Big Thank You!!!
