For those that have a NEC TurboGrafx-16...........
in the dark replied to AtariTexas's topic in Classic Console Discussion
My favorite console when it comes to gaming and shooters. I would recommend, Soldier Blade (love this one next to Blazing Lazers) R-Type Dead Moon Sinistron Raiden Aero Blasters Side Arms Samurai-Ghost (this is a personal favorite side scrolling slashing plateformer) Ninja Spirit (a must have and play) Vigilante Victory Run I second many that have been mentioned. This system is full of gaming fun. -
retrofitting controllers for the FC3 Plus?
in the dark replied to thefcpguy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Yes RetroN3 is good alternative, just don't expect to use the pack-in controllers as you already probably found out. The pack-ins are totally unuseable. Too floaty and loose in the control. My Retron 3 pack-in controllers kept pausing the game. I really don't understand, unless it was some cost cutting thing, why didn't they use the RF controllers like on the FC16 Go? Using the original controllers is the only way to enjoy gaming on this console. -
retrofitting controllers for the FC3 Plus?
in the dark replied to thefcpguy's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I went for the Retron 3 this week. It accepts the original NES, SNES, and Genesis controllers. My only disappointment in the console is the Genesis chip they used. The music in most of the games I'ved played is very very low in volume. Sometimes almost silent. -
First bad experience with Ebay...
in the dark replied to gooch3008's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I have had this happen to me several times. Only it has been the seller that has backed out. I have had excuses like, "I can't find the item." Or this excuse I have had twice from sellers, "I have already sold the item on another auction." What!?! Then there is this one, "My kids had it and I don't know what they did with it." This usually comes from sellers that I know they did not get what they wanted for the item. But if you put an item up with a starting bid of 99cents, you had better expect that item may sell for that. The seller backing out has recently become more common than it has in the past. At least that is what I have experienced on ebay. -
Rumor: Wii 2 to be announced at E3
in the dark replied to godslabrat's topic in Nintendo Wii / Wii U
I predict that Nintendo will, 1. Ride the wave of the 3DS this year and into 2012. The Holidays will be filled with a big 3DS push with a possible system shortage. This will be their main focus at the moment. The goal will be to establish this portable as the next big money maker. 2. Lower the price of the Wii and the seperate controller purchase. Offer more colors of Wii consoles, along with some special packages. Maybe even with the lower price, some packages would include extra contollers. This will revive the Wii sales and sell a boat load more consoles. 3. You will probably see another game, or two, released of something of the usual Nintendo brand character franchise. I still have my hopes of an updated Star Fox for the Wii along the lines of the N64 game. It seems that it so fits the motion control system and would so rock. I don't need that game remade with updated graphics, the 3DS has that. I know the focus is on the 3DS, but I still expect a few nuggets thrown to the Wii console. I expect the Wii successor to be more likely in 2013 with the annoucement at the 2012 E3. And that would depend on, if Nintendo has exhausted all of their big guns for the Wii and see an undate is needed. I am sure that the next big thing is there at Nintendo under a hush hush, don't tell, top sercret place. Ready to go. Nintendo will play their cards right. I don't think they will place themselves again in the "N64 position." They have learned their lesson. Lets hope they did. (I am a N64 fan myself and still have one hooked up beside the Wii.) Even though I think that some developers have avoided the Wii in the same way. -
Sega Game Gear sound problem
in the dark replied to A_Locomotive's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Feel fortunate that you even have a Game Gear that will work. They are a dying breed of portables. I have two that will not work because the capacitors have died. I need to get up the nerve to replace them. Sound and video finally give out because of the capacitors used in the systems. Replacing them is the only option of restoring the joy of playing. -
I will have to say that Shadow of the Beast is the best as far as music goes in a Lynx game. There are not many games that I can recall on the Lynx system as having that much music in game.

One of my favorites is Stun Runner.
-
I would suggest Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs SNK. Two very good 2D fighters for the Dreamcast.

Just how long do these outages usually last? The is the first one that I can remember, for me.

Dumbest thing you've heard people say about games/systems
in the dark replied to 4Ks's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Hearing people refer to game carts as "tapes." You could never get it out of their heads that they were not tapes. -
My TG-16 reeks of heavy purfume
in the dark replied to Koopa64's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The way I have taken out those type of odors is placing the item in a plastic box with lid. Putting a box of baking soda in there with the item for a couple of weeks, depends on how strong the smell. Then I put an opened "renuzit" room air freshner in the box for another week. I have removed cigarette smoke, that I find offensive, from things that way. -
Sega Genesis Imports on a North American System
in the dark replied to King_Salamon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
You know, after reading the sega-16 link, I kept looking in my Model 1 trying to figure out about the tab thing. I kept expecting to see these tabs in the bottom next to the pins for the cart. LOL It never occured to me that they were up by the doors. The Nomad doesn't have these tabs at all. I'm thinking that the Japan carts would probably fit about like they would in the 32X slot, according to what is said in that sega-16 link. I think all my questions have been answered, thanks. edit: For some reason, I really like the look and styling of the Japan carts. What about the 32X carts? Will Darxide play on a US Genesis? -
Sega Genesis Imports on a North American System
in the dark replied to King_Salamon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I've been looking around the net and reading up on this. I have come to the conclusion, even though I imported it from Japan, that what I have is the EU version of Zero Wings and plays perfect. I have yet to read that there are any physical difference in the carts except for here in this thread. There was an option to the game publishers to put the lockout in the software in which the unit looks for when booting. Not all game publishers took advantage of this. I own the Model 1 US Genesis and a Nomad. You are saying that there is a physical difference in the Japan cart. Could someone post a photo comparing the two. I am very curious as to the difference. I'm thinking that the cart would have to be bigger in some way because there are no tabs in my units which would discount any shape simular to the SNES lockout. Unless some of the newer models had that. -
Sega Genesis Imports on a North American System
in the dark replied to King_Salamon's topic in Classic Console Discussion
The cart shape for the Mega Drive (Japan) is the same as the US Genesis carts, unless there some that have it different. Many of the Japan MD games will play on the US system. I know that there are some that have a lock-out. I am thankful that my copy of Zero Wings works on the US system, cart shape is the same. If I could get my hands on any of the other Japan shooters, I would sure try them out to see if they worked too. If you have a Nomad there is no worry because the cart shape makes no difference to that system. -
Hmmm... I didn't know you could charge the Micro with USB. I might need to pick up the cable to charge mine that way.

I'm curious about the amount of battery life that the 2000 and the 3000 gets. I'm getting a solid 6 hours of playtime on my PSP 1000. What is the difference on the other models?

What's the use of the DSi XL?
in the dark replied to Nesbroslash's topic in Modern Console Discussion
If I had the cash, I would have one now. Love the idea of the large screens. I want one bad. -
It was easy for me to decide, I don't have a high speed internet connection. I use dial-up, caveman net service. So I could never be able to download any game content in which the system is heavily dependent. I personally like to hold the media in my hand, so I picked up a PSP 1000, used, a couple of weeks ago. It is in mint condition and I got an excellent deal on it. I have been picking up games ever since and I am having a ball gaming on this thing. I guess I am very easy to satisfy. I will say that by comparison the PSP Go is very tiny and could easily fit away in your pocket. And not having a need to store your game library on a shelf but it is neatly stored away inside the system gives it a unique advantage. But personally I would not be satisfied. I enjoy my cases, booklets, and game media. And having to deal with load time since the Sega CD, Neo Geo CD days, etc, it has not been hard to deal with.

Weird to think that. I guess I'm "old" at 28, but I started with the NES - I actually never have had an N64, though I imagine I'll get one for cheap one of these days to round out my modern console collection. I do agree that it is and always was overrated for the time. I wonder how many people 25-50 have "graduated" from game collecting/culture over the past decade or so? I hope I don't ever feel like leaving my gaming passion behind. Oh - and just to add to your shovelware comment, I agree. People talk about current possible rares on the Wii (gotta love the speculators), and so many people talk about how even if some shovelware titles end up being rare down the line, no one would want them anyway. Then you look at some of the rarest NES games, and a lot of it is shovelware crap. That said, I have a hard time believing their will be Wii completists out there...that's just too crazy. Don't mean to offend anyone though, more power to you if you have something like that in mind. I just had to make a comment. I am 55 and the passion for gaming is still there. I have gravitated toward retro gaming and there is where my passion for gaming has remained. Not sure in what ways that is being referred to, the N64 being over rated. I do know that it being up against the Saturn and the PS1, at the time, it was the most power hardware. It was only hampered by the cart medium. But it did manage to set standards in 3D gaming that has effected the way we play 3D games today. Even though the N64 was restricted by the cart, it is one of the reasons I love gaming on the system today. It is because I love cart based gaming rather than the disc, personal preference. Not sure if the N64 is considered something that collectors look for though. You can purchase most games for 99 cents or more.

Hardware dying in storage... ?
in the dark replied to monzamess's topic in Classic Console Discussion
I had a Sega CD go bad on me just sitting on the shelf. As a retro gamer I have decided to rotate my systems. Right now I am playing Atari Lynx and N64 games. -
Mine would have to be Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars 64. It was the scene where you enter the area with all of the fighters flying around the building in the middle. And the big spaceship descends down from the sky. That whole experience back then just overwhelmed my senses and blew my mind. I think my mouth stayed open the whole time, lol. I have yet to experience another game moment like that. Another one would have to be the whole experience of "ICO." I went into that game expecting something entirely different, and walked away with the most moving experience I have ever, or since, had with a video game.

Why was there no Metroid 64?
in the dark replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
It could be that they did start a Metroid game for the N64 and decided to hold it for the Game Cube. (just speculating) With others in charge of the project it was only natural to take the game series in a new direction. The game would have just been another 007 clone on the N64, but on the Game Cube something great. -
Why was there no Metroid 64?
in the dark replied to atari2600land's topic in Classic Console Discussion
Personally I think that the Castlevania games on the N64 are pretty good. If I was expecting something like the tradtional Castlevania games and were a fan of those then I can understand why someone would be disappointed. But as a 3D adventure title on the N64, I have a whole lot of fun with it. Maybe it is just a matter of personal gaming taste.
