  1. Thanks! It is certainly a tough game, don't feel bad if you haven't beaten it yet. How far have you gotten? Once you learn where to go, which items to use in which order, and which traps/enemies are coming up, it gets more doable. It's just a matter of playing through it and figuring out how to progress little by little. I haven't tried it in a very long time. I seem to remember getting to the second level. I gave up and only had the motivation to play through that level just to look at the graphics and listen to the music.
  2. The first one that I played was "Pong." It was the only one in existence at the time. The rest of the games in the arcade were pinball machines.
  3. In answer to the title of this thread, I would have put emphasis on updates of Atari arcade games, like for example what was done with Tempest. I would have drawn from remakes of the classic Atari game library while trying to woo big name developers. Trying to get a few Capcom fighters on board even if they were old stuff just to push the system into the hands of gamers, with titles like X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel vs Capcom, Final Fight, Street Fighter 2, etc. I would have went the route of arcade to home translations of games as a foundation to work from and venture out from there.
  4. You have beaten Shadow of the Beast? You have earned my respect greatly. I love the atmosphere of that game. And I have tried many number of times playing it. It just seems too hard for me, lousy gamer award here. The games I have actually completed are, Rygar (can't count how many times I have played through that game, love it) Gates of Zendocon Blue lightning Checkered Flag Shanghai (love this game on the Lynx) Pit Fighter
  5. I sort-of got interested in this weight thing that was mentioned earlier. Pulled out my N64 carts and a postal scale. I was surprised by my findiings. The average N64 cart weight is 3.2 oz. F-Zero- 4.2 oz. Zelda OOT- 4.2 oz. WCWnWo Revenge- 4.2 oz. Paper Mario - 4.1 oz. 1080 Snowboarding- 4.1 oz. Zelda MM- 4 oz. Mario Kart- 4.0 oz. Jet Force Gemini- 3.8 oz. I was surprised to find that Donkey Kong 64 was only 3.2 oz. average. I only have around 64 games, but I think this gives a good indication of the weight thing.
  6. Just picked this up this past week. Loads of fun! It still had the shrink wrap on it. But it didn't last long heh heh heh...
  7. Out of the games that I own, S.T.U.N. Runner Rygar Shanghai Gates of Zendocon Toki Hydra Blue Lightning Ms. Pacman Klax Checkered Flag Crystal Mines II And probably in that order of favorites. Not owning a complete library of lynx games, one that I want real bad is Robotron. And it would be up there under Rygar.
  8. I have three of the Lynx 2. At one time I had four. Purchased all of mine from Atari at the time for $99 each. I could not find anything Lynx related in my town, had to drive out of town and out of state. So adding that to yours the number comes out to 4. We are on a roll here.
  9. The last 5 or 6 years I have grown more, and more, into cart based gaming fanaticism and a zealot for the medium. I love the cart medium. I also like the flavor of the games that are on those carts, largely I think due to the arcade influence in those early consoles. I love the old retro arcade style gameplay. The 80s and the 90s are what I consider the "golden age." I really don't like disc based consoles. Moving parts put a sort-of fear in me, always have. Even though I have had only one CD based console go bad on me so far, my Sega CD. It went bad just sitting on the shelf. I know that all components can and will go bad, it just seems that they made things out of better quality materials back then, especially when it came to the cart based consoles. I have a lot of different gaming consoles, DVD, CD, and cart. Only my cart systems get any playtime now-a-days.
  10. My Soldier Blade came that way too from Toys R Us. Very interesting. My Soldier Blade was without Jewel Case, purchased new. I wonder if there was more than one run of the titles? First run got the jewel cases and second run got cardboard?
  11. I purchased my copy of Samurai Ghost new. (back when they sold TG16 at Toys-R-Us) And it has a jewel case. There is no sticker on the end of the jewel case like the older games, but it is a Turbo jewel case. I had to look over my collection after seeing this list here.
  12. I voted for the Hucard. There has been threads that have dealt with whether or not it is a cart or card. I'm not one to dig up old arguments. But I do prefer carts as my game medium of choice. I wish they were still the norm. I never have liked any kind of disc system. I have more and more, in recent years, become entrenched in the gaming of the past. The 80s and 90s is were I live when it comes to my game time.
  13. I have R-Type III complete. Picked it up years ago as a sell out. I am thinking I got it for around $19. And Firepower 2000 is an old favorite. Just not as well liked as the ones that I have listed. I do not have a Wii so the VC is not a choice for me. I personally would rather have hard copies, something that I can hold in my hands. Original hardware is one of my quirks. A lot of the ones that I have was purchased new. Only now do I have a desire to have all of the SNES shooters. Some of the ones that I need that are on your list are, Aero Fighters D-Force S.T.G. Strike Gunner Imperium Super E.D.F. U.N. Squadron
  14. If I've happened to cover them, does anyone want to help in listing the Japanese ones? Asides from the above games released in Japan (I would assume they all were, considering most if not all came from there), I have only personally played and owned Acrobat Mission.. Good game, but what else is there shmup-wise that's Japanese-only? The Jap list to start (Asides from the games listed above): Acrobat Mission Any others? Lets see, Cosmo Gang: The Video Cotton 100% Parodius (really don't know the names of the different ones in the series) Macross: Scrambled Valkyrie (I wished that this had made it to the US) Pop'n Twin Bee There is also a Twin Bee that is a side scroller, not sure it would fit in your defined category. Something about a Bell adventure? This is only some of them that I am sure about. I've played these before.
  15. I think you have them all listed. I personally would throw Cybernator in the middle of those, but that is just me. I understand the category and choice that you are making there. There were a lot of shooters that did not make it to the US, many were excellent that were missed. I am a shmup fan myself. I have many of those and I am still looking for some of those in that list. And I hope at some point to begin collecting the Japan shooters that never made it to the US shores. Gradius III, Space Mega Force, and Super R-Type are among my favorites in that list. I have been playing Gradius III for the last few weeks.
  16. Those shoulder buttons look good. And I like the placement of the AC and audio jacks being on the front of the unit. Finally out of the way! They really did a good job on the design this time. Or was it that we did a good job on the design and they listened? I get the feeling that the Yobo people are not really gamers only manufacturers. I'm going to have to pick up one of these for my US SNES gaming and modify my old one for Japanese SFC carts.
  17. Several honorable mentions for the shooter category, W Ring: The Double Ring Rabio Lepus Special Down Load
  18. Did you use dynamite to blast this thread out of whatever black hole that it resided in? I just had to vote. My favorite system out of these three is the Turbo Grafx 16. It doesn't matter to me which system is the most powerful, impressive, or whatever. The games on the Turbo Grafx is what makes the console my all time favorite. It was my favorite out of the three back then and it is still my favorite today. I'm a retro gamer spending my gaming time in the late 80's and 90's. The Turbo has a feel that is unique to it and fills a void left by the other two systems in my gaming. Even among consoles that have since been on the market up and including the present generation of systems, it is still number one with me.
  19. The Gameboy has a great library of games. I like playing on the Gameboy Pocket mostly. I was even inspired to pick up another one recently in a different color shell. And you can easily find a good selection of games to grab up from local yard sales or ebay.
  20. I dropped cable back in Sept. of 2008. Locally stations began to broadcast in digital. I stuck an antenna on the corner of my house and started receiving beautiful digital signals. Right now I receive around 20 channels and could receive more if I had a rotor. The signals are much better than the cable signals mainly because the cable company uses compression in the signals they send to your house. Even the HD signals are better and free. locally people are paying at least $140.00 a month for the HD TV. And some of the channels are the same as what I am picking up for free.
  21. I'm on a 4 day workweek right now. So my Fridays are free.

  22. I'm on a 4 day workweek right now. So my Fridays are free.

  23. 100% Positive. 2 rings AND said Stereo to Stereo on the box. How about you guys? Anyone gotten confirmed stereo? If so what did you use? I just used the Chinese POS ones that came with it Using the earphones that came with it and playing a game like StarFox, you can tell that it is stereo. Baffles me why they couldn't have added that extra piece on the TV out cord. Using headphones and having to use that right shoulder button is awkward with that jack being so close.
  24. I used Loctite Super Glue. I put a drop on the top of each button. I could never go back to using this thing without this simple mod. It makes a world of difference in responsiveness and control. edit: I do need to find a better glue. Super Glue will not hold up under heavy use long term on this type of plastic.
  25. Concerning the D-pad. Thankfully it is all one piece underneath. I was experimenting this morning. I took a blank DVD case, cut a disc the size of a penny, USD. Took some tape and centered this over the four buttons. This creates a better gaming experience. It gives you the sense of more control and accuracy. If you are like me, I use the center of my thumb on a traditional cross button D-pad. That is why I find the four button atrocity so awkward. Star Fox plays so much better now! Now I need to figure how to attach this so as to make it permanent.
