  1. So are we worried about getting the game out to the legions of Jag fans who have been starving to new software, or do we hoarde it so that it doesn't lose it's value? I'd rather get it out to the public rather than worry about it's value.
  2. Ultima VII: The Black Gate probably affected my outlook on real life much more than any other game I've ever played. A game which actually focused on real virtues, coupled with a story line that I could actually somewhat relate to had a pretty significant impact on a dumb teenage kid.
  3. Welcome! Hope you enjoy your stay here! This actually seems like normal operation to me. Turning off the "backlight" also essentially turns off the screen, since the screen is actually backlit. Since it doesn't use a "reflective" screen like the GBA, you're unable to see anything on it when the backlight is turned off. As for the flip button, I'm not sure what's causing that. Could just be that the button needs its contacts cleaned, which would require taking the Lynx apart. Other than that, sounds like Lynx #1 is working just fine. Sounds like this one may have passed on after all. The only thing I can really suggest is using a known working AC adapter with it, just in case you haven't done that yet. Other than that, this one may not be good for much other than spare parts. Perhaps someone else here knows a bit more about Lynx hardware problems? Anyway, hope this helps!

I can't really disagree with that. I've been trying to breathe some new life into this forum, but for some reason it appears that the Lynx hasn't quite developed the hardcore following that other Atari systems like the 2600 or Jaguar have. Which is a shame, too, since the Lynx is an incredible system!

It's not a matter of being "sensitive", it's a matter of posting relevant material in the proper forum.
  6. Looks like Konami has decided to join in on the fun and publish a remake of Metal Gear Solid on the GC, along the same lines as the Resident Evil remake. Gamespot has the story here. With all these new GC announcements, will there be any surprises left for E3??
  7. I didn't think Hydra was all that bad. I managed to play it long enough to beat it, and see the "surprise" ending. Definitely not worth another play-through, though.
  8. I'll definitely have to agree about the video output. My old 130XE had better video output via RF than my 800XL does through composite. However, I much prefer having the cartridge slot on top of the system, instead of in the back or on the side. Just makes things easier, IMO. But that was definitely a good review of the 1200XL. Thanks!
  9. I think another solution would possibly be to find a company that rents MAC addresses. I remember reading about this several years ago, but unfortunately I'm unable to find anything regarding this through Google. It could be worth looking into though.
  10. Before you start writing any programs, make sure you have some method of storing them, whether it be a disk drive, cassette drive, or an SIO2PC cable, which can "emulate" both with the right software. Those are the main materials that you need if you want to do any serious programming. As far as Macro Assembler is concerned, you don't need it, but once you start getting the hang of programming in assembly, you would most likely find it quite helpful. However, above that I would recommend the PC program ATASM, which is a very powerful macroassembler and is almost a direct copy of MAC/65, my assembler of choice back in the day. For now, though, the Atari Assembler cart coupled with the necessary hardware should suffice. The site www.atariarchives.org has just about everything you would need in order to get started in programming in assembly for the Atari 8bit. I would highly recommend reading the book Machine Language for Beginners first, as it's probably the best beginner's guide to asm I've ever seen. The only other thing I can recommend is to try becoming familiar with Atari BASIC first, as this book assumes familiarity with it, although with your programming background, I'd say it's not an absolute necessity.
  11. I would say it's good that you're getting one! I was hoping I'd be able to order mine before they were sold out. I don't care too much for which number I get, as long as I actually get one.
  12. Have you tried copying the contents of the disk images to another standard format disk image, or even copy the files over to a real 5 1/4" disk? This is assuming that you can actually read the disk images using real hardware via SIO2PC.
  13. Sorry, my post was more of a joke than anything else, I guess I should've put a smiley like this in it. I knew I probably wouldn't have gotten the high bid on it, but hey, a fella can always dream, right?
  14. Well I did have the high bid for the vast majority of the time, but thank you for bringing it to everyone's attention and causing the going price to skyrocket!!!!!
  15. I'll agree with bergbros on this. While it's not a total ripoff, it's not a bad deal either. But I'd double check the condition of the Lynx itself before following through.
  16. ...then you still own a nice little piece of Atari history, as well as another method of backing up data. I wouldn't label it as totally useless quite so quickly.
  17. It stands up very well to the Jag version, doing some things not quite as good, but most others even better. It's almost a totally different game from T2K, and requires some different strategies for clearing out webs. The graphics are definitely a step above T2K, as it's hard to actually pinpoint a single pixel. The drawback to that is T3K at times appears to be blurry, especially when you're trying to spot enemies down at the bottom of the web. The little pop-up messages aren't nearly as intrusive as in T2K, thanks to some transparency plus the fact that they don't cover almost the entire screen. The only other downside for T3K would be the lack of different warp stages. You only have one in T3K, which is quite similar to the "bacon" warp stage in T2K.
  18. It's hard to listen to for the 5 millionth time. The Jag community has seen more than it's fair share of folks jumping in and talking crap about the Jag. What you did was no different, despite the guise you're trying to take. Nice of you to pick and choose your posts. Here's a snippet you missed: Not a direct bash per se, but why do you care what his opinion is? None of us Jag fans jump into the other forums and try to convince everyone that their favorite system isn't the best ever. So why should you? There's a time and a place for certain opinions. Does that mean it's alright for me to jump into a Christian forum and start spouting that there is no God? Right or wrong, it's not my place to try telling other people what to think. Neither should you. Besides, the "troublemaker" comment was referring to holy_fluck more than you. However, if the label fits... Read above. And stop repeating yourself. Please.
  19. I know some weird guy named Albert who lives in my town. I think he posts here occassionally too....
  20. Protector SE is the best rendition of Defender on the Jag. D2K is quite entertaining also, but for some reason it just seems to be missing something. I do love "Plasma Pong" though.
  21. Ok, looks like it's time for me to post a negative review also... Tournament Cyberball One of my favorite games in the arcade in the very early nineties was Tournament Cyberball. Unfortunately, in porting this game to the Lynx, the developers seemed to have ported the wrong game. Arcade TC was a blast to play either against the computer or another human opponent. Lynx TC is a drag to play, regardless of who you're playing. Sloppy and unresponsive controls are mostly what keeps this title in my pile of shame. The graphics are mostly functional, staying pretty close to the arcade original, and the sound is nothing to write home about, just like almost every other Lynx game ever made. But I still can't get over the fact that the game plays like a stale turd floating in an unflushed toilet. There's a reason why this game goes for so cheap on eBay...stay away at all costs.
  22. Why am I not surprised that someone had to take a crap on this thread too? It's no secret why a perpetual black cloud lingers over the Jag community...
  23. I just hate to think what the reserve is set for.
  24. Actually I've read plenty of your posts in this thread, and all I see are ill-informed opinions. But you're not saying anything that most of us Jag fans haven't heard at least a thousand times already. And besides, what is your negative criticism accomplishing exactly? Huh? What? Nothing? Yes, that's correct. Spouting off about how "inferior" the Jag is to every other system known to man is going to accomplish absolutely NOTHING positive. So yes, with that I'm labeling you a troublemaker, as I would like to guess that you're smart enough to realize the same thing.
