  1. I think you misunderstood what I said. Comb filtering only works for a COMPOSITE connection, not for an S-Video connection. I don't see why comb filtering would be enabled for S-Video when it doesn't need it. Comb filtering will most likely only occur with a composite or RF connection.

  2. I thought the comb filter only applied to composite inputs? I wouldn't see a need to separate the two (Y/C) signals AGAIN after separating them before the TV/monitor's input, especially since the TV's internal separation most likely wouldn't be near as clean as the input's two signals. I would imagine that you don't have to worry about that for S-Video input; it usually only applies to composite.

  3. I'd rather play those Tom Clancy games on my PC, where I don't have to use a sucky-ass controller. :D But let's not forget that there really aren't very many Xobx games that are NOT out on the GameCube (or coming out). But please, let's stop Console Wars Thread #56935707824607 and get back to the topic on hand.

  4. I've had a total of 4 Lynx systems, and the only problem I've ever had (other than a dead pixel) was with needing to clean the d-pad contacts on one of them. I've never had a Lynx die on me, thankfully.

  5. I wonder where they got the statistics for GameCube being in third place. I heard recently that by a very small margin GC is still outselling XBOX hardware wise in US. And software sales wise GC is doing quite a bit better than XBOX but not nearly as much as PS2 :( .

The Xbox is outselling the GameCube by a small margin in the US, but the GameCube is still in 2nd place in world-wide sales.

  6. Honestly, I wonder how many people can really blame the Tramiels for ignoring the 7800 for so long? When they bought the company, Atari was bleeding cash BECAUSE of video games. They streamlined Atari into purely a computer company (at least for a short while), and in doing so brought Atari back into a more profitable state. I don't think anyone forsaw the success of the NES, especially during that time. Hindsight, of course, is always 20/20.

  7. One of my favorite games was David's Midnight Magic.  Of course the game didn't really come alive until we broke my TAC2 joystick playing Decathalon and I decided to wire up the two buttons to play David's Midnight Magic.  I've had some insane scores on that game over the years using that joystick.  I think my lifetime high is around 750,000... haven't seen a dumped game from the net with a higher score yet.  Anyone play this much?

Yes, I forgot to add it to my list! That and Track & Field (complete with separate two button controller) were also favorites of mine. Unfortunately, I can't remember what my high score was around on that game, as I haven't played it in over a decade. I'm sure you have mine beat, though. :D

  8. I just rummaged through the drawers of an old desk, and lo and behold, I still have most of my Atari User magazines! They're still in decent condition, and one of these days I'll get them archived. I still have the following issues:

    June '91

    July '91

    August '91

    Sept '91

    Oct '91

    Sept '92

    November '92

    December '92

I had at least several other issues (I know I had the last one made) but those have been lost. If any of you come across any issues that I don't have listed above, please let me know! :D
