CPUWIZ, just because you're on a T1 doesn't mean you're superior to the rest of us. Ok, maybe it does...

People with pirate copies of games destroy their DC's evntually because a lot of people don't know how to ... nevermind.
This is 100% correct. I know quite a few people who have Dreamcasts, and the ONLY ones that have had problems with them are the ones who use CD-R's in it. For some reason the DC does NOT like CD-R discs, and in a way rightfully so. Pirated games are part of the reason why the Dreamcast "failed". However, homebrew games have to go somewhere too, and I don't think most people have the means of getting their own projects duped.
The moral of the story? Don't put CD-Rs in your DC!

Wasn't Capcom supposed to make a GC controller specifically for fighting games?

Man, what's the deal with people digging up ancient threads lately?
I, of course, have to add a few of my favorites. Since I didn't have a disk drive during most of the time that I had my 130XE, I missed out on quite a few games during the day. However, I had plenty of cartridges for my 130XE, so naturally most of my favorites are cartridge games. Having said that, probably my favorite 8bit game back in the day was Defender. No matter how much I played it, I always had to go back for more. That was one of the first games that I was literally addicted to. A few more of my favorites:
Alternate Reality:The City (never played The Dungeon much)
Eastern Front
Hardball
Basketball (don't ask me why)
Rescue on Fractalus
Almost all of the Ultimas
Qix

I can't believe the amount of hate for Pit-Fighter. I've had plenty of fun with it, despite the controls being crap, the sounds being crap, and the gameplay being highly mediocre. It's definitely in the bottom half of the Lynx's library, but definitely NOT in the worst 5. I can easily list 5 games that are worse than Pit-Fighter:
Hard Drivin'
Steel Talons
Diry Harry (I despise that game!)
Robo-Squash
Tournament Cyberball
There's probably a few others that I could rank under Pit-Fighter, too.

Ahh, nevermind....I guess Safari didn't want to allow me to do that. No problems now.

I didn't say anything about having a bias.I wasn't responding to your post, but the one before it.
It kind of seems a bit far-fetched that the wrong build of FFL was sent for duping. But then again, Atari was pretty sloppy with quite a few things, so I guess it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch for them to have done that. I also think it's pretty obvious that the game (at least the one that Atari sold) is unfinished. -
Wow, talk about an old thread being revived...
Carl, are you still looking for suggestions about which Lynx games we'd like to see published?

I never owned a C64 (I had an Atari 8bit instead), but I still have no shortage of love for it. Despite the fact that I and a friend of mine who owned a C64 would always argue about which system was better, I still enjoyed it quite a bit. I'd have to say my favorite game was Friday the 13th. I still play it (via emulation) to this day, along with Star Trek Evolution.
As for the Tramiels, I think that they're unfairly hated by many in the Atari community. Many Atari fans act like Atari went vanished the moment that Jack got his hands on it, but nothing could be further from the truth. Atari actually did quite well for the second half of the 80's and a little into the 90's. Sure, they made some bad business decisions, especially at the end, but Atari most likely wouldn't have made it anywhere near as far as it did if it weren't for them.

This is certainly not the worst 3D fighter I've played. A few minutes with Criticom on the Saturn, and you'll run right back to FFL. That being said, it's not much of a game, perhaps a bit better than Kasumi Ninja, definitely better than Double Dragon V, but falling waaaaay behind as far as Ultra Vortek is concerned (which is really the only fighting game really worth playing on the Jag in the first place). I think that with most people, this is simply one of those games you're either going to love or hate, and usually it's due to bias, not so much the game itself.Obvious faults with the game have nothing to do with bias. I personally was looking forward to the game, and was let down quite a bit when I actually got the chance to play it. It was an unfinished game, and not worth the price of a brand new cartridge. It's sad, because the game actually had a lot of promise. It just didn't live up.

Sweet! Can I send you our broken Jag Cd to fix now?
Ours doesn't have quite the same problem. I already tried taking it apart and prying up the spindle, but I don't think that's the problem with it at all. I think it just needs a new mechanism.

What details??? I don't see anything in those game that hasn't already been done on XBOX.And saying the hard drive isn't a big deal is pretty silly. So is the trivialization of lighting effects. Both are quite advanced features and make the games much more appealing.
I haven't seen fur rendered quite so nicely in any Xbox game.
But this is obviously where we disagree...good gameplay makes games more appealing to me, not good graphics masking a mediocre game. -
I'm also unable to download any of the disk images. Which is a shame, too, because I REALLY want to check out the Shadow of the Beast demo! Those are definitely some good looking games!

As I stated in the rest of my post that you failed to quote, I am quite familiar with the GC and also with Metroid, I played it for about an hour and watched my nephew play it for about 5 hours. I 'm not he one who started the comparisons between them, I just went along with it, as far as graphics go, hands down, Halo is better...as far as gameplay goes, this is purely opinion, but I think Halo is much better. The comparisons don't have to be in the same genre when your just comparing one "killer App" against another...anyway, I'm not trying to put down the GC, I'm just stating facts; the XBOX is a MUCH more powerful system and it has the games to prove it! Here's a fact in favor of the GC; Roque Leader is Fantastic and the Xbox has nothing *genre wise* to compare to it; Star Wars:Starfighter is a PS2 port and it shows, it sucks compared to Rogue! But I promise that something will eventually come out on the Xbox that is better than Rogue, because the Xbox is powerful enough to make something better! To tell the truth, I'd rather play Iron Soldier 2 to either of those, AND T2K.

Sorry to say it, but that's all fanboy speak, plain and simple. You're stating your opinions as if they are fact, and they are NOT. The XBox is NOT much more powerful than the GameCube. Is it more powerful? Yes, but not anywhere NEAR what the Xbox fanboys make it out to be. About the only things the Xbox has on the GameCube are the lighting effects and the hard drive (which still doesn't make games any better). Even then, I still haven't seen any Xbox games that can match some of the details seen in games like Rogue Leader and Star Fox.
Regardless, this is a Jaguar forum, NOT a systems wars forum. I vote we end this thread now, before all of the fanboys start crying and go home.

Some people are so stuck on the Jag that they have to pull SOMETHING good out of even the worst Jag games. FFL is crap, plain and simple. However, it at least has a legitimate reason for being so....it's simply unfinished. Supercross 3D and a few other craptacular Jag games fall into that category too. If Atari had thrown more than two people at a game and given them a little more time to finish it, most of the shit titles would've been greatly improved. Atari had no one but themselves to blame for the crap titles that were released on the Jag.

I wanted to like Skies of Arcadia on the Dreamcast, but the too-frequent and too-random battles killed any sense of explorative wonder for me, and the story and characters were soaked in a bland, cutesy, Grandia-esque atmosphere. Still, I'm interested in the GameCube version, as it seems to have corrected at least one of my major gripes with the original. You probably didn't play through it enough. The story doesn't stay quite so cutesy and bland, and the random battles can eventually be avoided (for the most part).

What kind of info are you looking for exactly? The 1200XL is a good little system. Just ask away and I'm sure plenty of us can answer your questions!
-
You do it by resetting the cartridge, which also wipes out your high scores. Unfortunately, I don't remember the button combo to do it. Anyone remember?
-
The only thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't make me coffee.

My jab was in a light-hearted manner, so stop worrying.
Believe it or not, I've had plenty of fun on the Xbox, even though it's my least favorite of the 3 current generation systems. Halo does kick major ass! -
Thanks, Very Generous of you y'all ! (excuse my language; we are in Texas) Your recommendation MacGurl have become my shopping list !Hopefully someday we will have an Atari gathering in Austin (Come on down friends elsewhere) and I can thank you for your recommended game list again. I will not borrow as I tend to not return things
Thanks To Everyone Again and I will go preorder Zelda at EB if they let me !

I've been discussing an Atari gathering with various people for quite a while now. Perhaps it will become a reality soon!
If EB doesn't let you preorder, you may want to try GameStop. That's where I have mine preordered. BTW, whereabouts in Austin are you located?

Anyway, just wait until HALO2 and Brute Force hit the market, they'll make Metroid Prime look like Doom on the 32X in comparison!
One thing that interests me.....why do Xbox fans always compare currently shipping games for other platforms to games that have yet to be released on the Xbox? Would it perhaps indicate a dire lack of quality software on said console?

-
I'll also vouch for the GOAT Store. Their prices seem to be among the more reasonable out there. I've also bought several items from them, and have nothing but good things to say about those transactions. I highly recommend them!

If you're referring to the game + box + overlays + etc, you're right. However, the cartridge itself appears to be quite common, as most of those auctions would indicate. This isn't a fluke, either; AvP is one of the most common carts to see up for sale on eBay. Also, wouldn't the fact that it was one of Atari's best-selling Jag games indicate that it's nowhere near being rare?

Anybody else seeing this?

Just wait until your neighborhood gets some people in it...then it'll be bastard slow cable access.
