I think they'll need to hurry up and get a new payment provider, looks like a lot more people on Discord are being effect with the issue now, the complaints are coming in fast with people sounding like there on the brink of giving up on the system. If Atari don't get this resolved by xmas i can see lots of unhappy new Atari VCS owners and a grim looking 2024 for the VCS where the lights might actually go off for good for the system.

I hate to say it, but you're probably right. The zip code issue has struck me again, and it's beyond frustrating that it decided to crop back up right when Berzerk: Recharged came out. And I think I've been more patient with this issue than most.

Is there a thread that talks more about it?

What is there to talk about? Dave Bell was a 16 year old kid at the time, had absolutely zero prior experience with game development, and was quite clearly making grandiose claims that he could never back up. In hindsight, it's more amazing that anyone believed he was actually working on a Jag game.

So a bunch of toys I bought and played with, from early adolescence into middle age now, is a "journey?" I had no idea it was such a lyrical experience. I'm just trying to pass the time and numb the pain.

Different outlooks for different people. Gaming for me wasn't about "numbing the pain", it was experiencing new worlds that filled me with excitement and fueled my imagination. Among some of my life's memories are being excited by each new screen in Pitfall, the wonder of experiencing the closest thing to a living, breathing world at that time in Ultima VII, seeing the amazing rendered 3D graphics for the first time in Super Mario 64, or getting immersed in the world and story of Skies of Arcadia. So yeah, I'd consider that a "journey".

Its such a weird issue, everyone better buy what they want quickly before it glitches out again.

Yeah no kidding. Going forward, I think there's always gonna be a bit of tension whenever I go to purchase a game as to whether or not it'll work.

  5. I've either had a game console myself or had ready access to one all the way back to my earliest memories. I'm putting separate lists for game consoles and computers along with notes on them where necessary. Also, I'm only counting "current generation" console purchases.

    Consoles:

197X/8X - Pong unit (This unit belonged to either my aunt or uncle and included multiple game variations such as skiing and car racing. I remember very little about it about it other than watching my aunt and uncle playing on it.)

1982 - Atari 2600 (Christmas parents from my parents. Easily my longest-used primary gaming console as I played on it pretty regularly throughout the 80s and early 90s.)

1991 - Sega Genesis (Didn't own it myself but my best friend had one and I was over at his house constantly).

1992 - TurbroGrafx-16 (Birthday gift from same friend as above, he seemed to be stockpiling units for a time)

1992 - Atari Lynx (Another Christmas present, my brother also got a matching console)

1995 - Atari Jaguar (First console I purchased for myself, got it as soon as I graduated from Marine Corps boot camp)

1995 - SNES (Bought while in tech school in the military, didn't have my Jag with me at the time)

1996 - N64 (Preordered unit ahead of time and picked it up on launch day)

1996 - Sega GameGear (given to me by one of my military buddies)

1999 - Sega Dreamcast (One of my most-used systems ever)

2001 - Gameboy Advance (original model)

    2001 - Nintendo GameCube

    2002 - PS2

    2004 - GBA SP

    2004 - Xbox

    2005 - Nintendo DS

    2006 - Xbox 360

    2007 - Nintendo Wii

    2022 - Nintendo Switch

(Note: I didn't purchase any current-gen systems between 2007 and 2022, although there were various old or retro systems that I got during that time.)

    Computers:

1983 - Kaypro II (Not purchased by my family. However, my dad was a computer teacher at my private school, and he often took home a Kaypro II for work)

1985 - Commodore 64 (My best friend at the time owned it, and considering I lived just 2 doors down from him, I was on it just about as much as he was.)

1986 - Atari 130XE (Christmas present from my mom and grandmother. They happened to walk into a Federated store to buy me a C64, but walked out with the 130XE instead)

1991 - Tandy 1000RL (My mother bought it in order to get more used to MS-DOS compatible systems for work)

1991 - Atari ST (had various 520 and 1040 ST systems in short succession, thanks to the Atari user group I belonged to)

1997 - present - various PCs and Macs. Just way too many models to list.

Then doesn't this thread amount to pissing in his data pool?  I literally looked at the email today and missed this.  I already have all the games featured, and even if I didn't, I would already know about them because I check the store once a week or so to see if anything new came out.

Possibly, yes, but it also can work towards ensuring more people receive Atari's marketing emails if there is the possibility of getting more free games in the future.

This has happened to me three or four times since the end of June.  I stopped having my CC number stored as my nephew (who is 8 years old) has a VCS with my account on it.  Although I bought pretty much most of the games with the exception of original 7800 and Dosbox games.  There are a couple of other VCS games I haven't bought yet and of course the new games that I can't buy at this time, so I probably will try to save my CC info in the system to see if I can avoid this nonsense again.  I wanted to do that this last time, but I bought a couple of games with a visa gift card and that erased my CC info.  This will get fixed, probably in a week or two and I recommend saving your CC info for future purchases.  That might solve the issue?

I've kept my CC info saved on the VCS all this time and that hasn't had any effect on the issue. In fact, I know when the issue has cropped back up just by my CC info coming up as not saved when I try to make a purchase.

I think the default controls for both games are causing a bit of confusion as the VCS seem to default to 1 button for most people and they are two button games.

Maybe we need a version of the ROM for the VCS that says "CHANGE YOUR CONTROLS" on the splash screen.

A lot of videos on YT of people floundering as they don't have 2 buttons working ingame.

I haven't had this issue, strangely enough, as I'm able to use two buttons in E.X.O. without changing the default mappings. I think a better default mapping solution for the emulator that the VCS uses would save everyone a lot of grief.

I didn't get a screenshot unfortunately, i basically turned on my Atari VCS 800 and the game was already downloaded onto my console with an automatic 5 star rating from me 😥. I'll definitely delete the game from my system until you get the issue resolved and i would hope everyone else who received the game for free will do the same. I'm down to pay for the game when the issue is resolved. I've had a blast playing exo 7800 what an amazing game it is I'll treat this as a demo or something and will remove it ASAP

Yup, that's what happened with me too, I didn't even have to download it. I'll make up for it by buying some of his other games.

  10. That's because the default mapping for the emulator used to run 7800 games on the VCS has the left thumbstick set to reset. You can change this mapping by pressing on the Atari button on the controller (short press, not a long one) which will bring up the emulator's menu. You can then go to the input settings and remap it to another button. It's nice that it can be changed, but that default mapping is still a pain. There's been more than once where I've had a good run going in Food Fight only to accidentally press down on the thumbstick and have it reset the game.

I'm more worried about Microsoft trying to buy out Atari, especially if the brand takes off again under Wade's stewardship.

Yes, that scenario gives me nightmares. You might as well consider Atari to be gone for good if that ever happens. That said, it would be nice if something could be worked out with MS to get licenses for the old Activision catalog. I'm just not going to hold my breath.
