  1. I can confirm the difference between my 600XL with 1064 module and 800XL/65XE/800XE, which I also have. Just today I checked that the game "DC" on 600XL with 1064 has a very strange difference when use JCart 1MB (from Jakub Husak). One of the sprites on the screen "blinks" when everything is ok on the other computers. The computer is checked by SelfTest and SysInfo (the sprites work properly there). The same program launched not from the cartridge, but from the xex file works fine...
    Does this suggest any differences in handling cartridges?

  4. Hi guys,

    From now you have English and other translations of Maciej's conversation with me and Mono. Substitles are in Polish, but on YouTube you can enable automatic translation into other languages, including English, German and Spanish. Thanks to Misza for his great work with Polish subtitles.

  5. Good news for fans of graphical user interfaces. GEOS 2.0 was ported from Commodore to Atari by a Polish Commodore fan: Maciej "YTM" Witkowiak from the demoscene group Elysium. You can read (listen if you know Polish) about it on AtariOnline.pl:

    http://atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=nowinki&ucat=1&subaction=showfull&id=1668428074

    The project is posted on GitHub and well described in English, so I invite you to read it. You can help the author in using the SIO (floppy disk, printer), because he has not done it yet.

  6. Hi guys,

    Yes, I recently added a game archive* with my own naming convention as it takes too long to name files according to the TOSEC nomenclature. Now we have two game databases - the one from TOSEC is slower to update and the zip file is rarely up-to-date, my database (Kaz) is replenished faster, and the zip file with whole database is immediately available. My ambition is to add all the files that other websites have, to create the most complete archive of games.
    I still have about 9,500 files to check :) . There is a history of changes to the database, information about how many games and their files have been added, etc. The website file search engine will also search in my database soon.

    As for the indication that something works in PAL or NTSC, I still add this information to the file name, if I have such knowledge. I don't have an NTSC computer myself, so it's hard for me to check which ones work only on NTSC. You can also report information to me at kaz@atarionline.pl, then I will correct it or add a tag.

    McLaneinc - thanks for the kind word, motivates me to continue efforts!

    * A script extracting files from a zip file and formatting their layout on the website was prepared by Santyago (Korneliusz Jarzębski); lots of files were contributed by Duncan; the script to download files from the net and compare with our archive was written by Paw. Thanks to all of them!

    True, however "Albert II" is a completely different game than "Albert". It is the continuation of the story, technically a different engine, more possibilities, fewer limitations, etc.

  8. skr - congratulations on completing the game! :) And thanks for the info on the joystick.

    Today the author released a new version of the game (1.02) which has a fixed bug with diamonds. Download at the same place on AtariOnline.pl game archiv.

    And there is a cover picture for the game box, because there is a chance that the game will be released at Retronics.

  9. Thanks to the quick reaction of Kski, the author of the game "Albert", today we have the opportunity to publish a new version, marked 1.01, which has some significant technical changes:

    - when the game is loaded, a hardware test is performed, but differently than before. Instead of detecting whether the computer is PAL or NTSC, it checks if it is in 50 or 60 Hz mode;

    - the music speed is improved for the NTSC 50Hz systems;
    - the ESC key allows you to exit to the game menu;
    - with the key OPTION on the start page, in the menu, you can turn on or off both music and sounds (MUSIC ON / OFF, SOUNDS ON / OFF);
    - falling off platforms has been delayed. Now, while running, you can jump from the very edge (where the hero could no longer stand), it makes the gameplay easier;
    - minimal delay, when starting from a standstill, has been introduced, so the acceleration of the hero takes a bit longer, it makes the gameplay harder.

    Download of version 1.01 traditionally here: http://atarionline.pl/v01/index.php?ct=katalog&sub=A&tg=Albert#Albert

    PS. Is there at least one person who finished the game, and will show us the final screen photo? :D

  10. It promises to be a great tool. Fantastic job, Rensou! I glued your video clips into one movie, with background music for better viewing, and additionally with the slideshow you prepared. I hope this will help to popularize the topic, and you like it :)

  12. Thanks, Gury for your great work! Many people here, in Poland, are cheering for your project because the programming workshops in Action! is just conducted by TDC. This is a person who has been creating Action! games continuously for over 30 years. At the moment, every day for 3 hours about 25 people take part in the workshops. This is a total of 33 hours of learning, and a week ahead us!

    You can take advantage of this interest in Action! because now people can report Action! issues to you freshly, as well as submit ideas for additional features in the Effectus. The discussion continues in this thread:

  13. Philsan - I'm glad you like the game. The idea of this illumination followed me for several years, and finally there was a game in which it could be used. Gorgh did a good job with programming.

    Mytek - a long piece of rope (about 60 yards) were bought in a regular DIY store in Poland, and then cut into smaller pieces. :D

    You unlock the other ponies when finish the whole level.

    Agree with recommended buttons swap.

  15. Gibstov:

    It's good to hear that there is progress in game development. Just to motivate you, we played your unfinished game in public places in Cracov (Poland), where Atari 65XE was available on the street, for tourists, and in the trendy restaurant, for customers, also in our UBU Lab on Jagiellonian University! I pushed adult, serious people to play as a little pony :P Some direct greetings to you inside the movie :D

    In the second movie, it's me playing your game. I haven't figured out how to play Rainbow Dash yet...
