I wonder if he's gonna give him a negative feedback now After the phone number request, I decided to wait for the seller to call me before leaving any feedback, just in case the fella got a bit testy about such a major loss. But instead, another day later, solow_rider appears on here to decry the cart as a hack. If it is a hack and I was mistaken, and the cart is in fact not original, then positive feedback will be heading his way immediately. If it is original, and solow_rider has been a liar within these threads, then perhaps I will be forgiving and choose to simply not leave feedback at all.

This scenario appears to be most likely, as solow_rider acquired my full contact information - basically my phone number, since he has my name & address already - via eBay within a day of me posting this auction, no doubt after realizing the loss when groups of people email him to question/gloat. Nothing about the transaction suggests the seller knew anything whatsoever about Atari games, or else they would have highlighted the Miner 2049er Vol II with perfect manual at the least. So the seller knew nothing about the lot, and is not a gamer - period. I have no problems holding this cart up to the necessary scrutiny, and will delight in the apologies of the disbelievers. I had no intention of accepting the $2500 offer, as I strongly agree with homerwannabee - the history of this game is just being built. Plus, as our generation grows older, more will slowly turn to collect Atari. Regardless of how ugly the label is on mine (right now...), the law of supply and demand is still in effect. In essence, my cart value would be determined by the lowest price the next seller is willing to part with theirs at. I am surprised more Atari collectors do not hope for more collectors joining the market - it increases the overall rarity & value of your collection. Now, about validating this bad boy & watching the jealousy turned schadenfreude turn into loathing, and extracting a few apologies too... IIRC, I will have to cut the label to open this cart & verify validity. And once that is done, how much more value has been lost to satiate the squawkers? Is there any other way, since the label is perfect (except for the marker) except for the two minor depressions at the screwholes themselves, to verify without cutting the label up? If I'm wrong, which I'm still relatively confident I am not, I will turn the auction listing in the greatest self-mockery listing of all time.

I may have missed a few in between, but didn't this same game go for $3300 6 years ago? What did the others sell for since then?

Don't joke... kingmeanguns contacted me to tell me that the Atlantis 2 I have must be 1 of 10, not possibly 1 of 12, as only 10 exist. (at least in his magical world of crash helmets & pudding cups) It's like the original Leeroy Jenkins contacting me... A legend of monumental stupidity stepping forth to assert their right atop the idiot pyramid.

Hahaha... wouldn't that be nice? I harbor no hopes of it selling, but look to find people outside of this community who were unaware of such a game. I'd say I have a 1/1000 chance of finding someone with deep pockets & an Atari fascination, and over Easter weekend is as good a time as any for a larger audience to peruse eBay. I've had a couple people contact me on the side as a result, so my ultimate goal is well underway.

I saw that "idea," and found it dreadfully lacking in creativity, design and function. So you get a 2" platform for your beverage with a surface that doesn't hold crap. I consider this "idea" the craft show approach to recycling games. A pedestrian effort barely worthy of notice.

The listing fee is nothing to me - I rack up plenty of charges with my Atari flip auctions, but I make it back easily enough to not sweat it. The money isn't the be-all, end-all. I know a few tricks to remove permenant marker from just about every surface, and will be testing my removal on a few "spare" Imagic games I have lying about. We'll see how that works out. I understand the flack I'm catching, but it is hysterical to me. People get so offended by my auction listing that they cannot help themselves from contacting me to express their outrage. I'm starting to have fun with these less-sociable folks. Christophero Sly, this original post was directed to the community users who feel as you do. There will be at least 500 games, including some hard-to-find games and label variations, with perfect labels that will be used. I think I pulled the Taz, Road Runners, Mario Bros, etc. from the stack, but I doubt I caught all the more valuable games. When I'm done, each game will still be playable, but I doubt you'll appreciate the cart prostitution I am performing. I was keeping the Obelix to use as well, but thought that would cause pure outrage. Perhaps I'll save the Waterworld I have en route as the cherry on top...

It was the Air Raid sale, back in 2001 or so, for $3300 that first made me realize there were truly rare games, beyond anything I ever imagined. The CommaVid Video Life was a nice one, and I figured the Pepsi Invaders boxed would have gone higher than it did. And as I just sent someone responding to my eBay auction... Oh, and I believe one of homer's friends (the name with two systems) contacted me, with some indignation, regarding the auction as well. He/she received a fun response.

Only what I got in the auction lot. The video of me playing it came out waaaaaaaaay too big to upload to anywhere except Big Blue. I need to figure out how to scale down the video in my new digicam, or find some freeware to scale the video down, if that would suit you. Would that suffice?

I do, too. I just wanna actually get paid.

No, but I like the way you think. My wife suggested a coffee table or jewelry box from games, but I don't see the design aesthetic appealing. I'm incredibly paranoid about anyone stealing my ideas, so I won't share at this point what I'm working on. It's not as grand as a car, as the games are not being used in a collective manner. Even worse, as I begin to make the first batch, I keep going off on even more wild tangents. It'll be an exciting fall when I get the full collection complete. What I will say is that when I release my "projects" into the wild, I will offer AtariAge folks exclusive first dibs.

Yeah, it is the classic Sharpie adorning the case with the Roman numeral II. I thought about taking it off, but decided to leave it just the way I found it.
-
You are correct. Quite silly. Who wouldn't trust this to a postal carrier? Once payment clears, I'll pay for the airfare & hotel. Why? Because I care. Really.

I figured you'd be along soon enough, and it is only appropriate that I include my source. I had my max bid set at nearly $800, with the hopes that it was the game. And, obviously, it was. In the time between finding it and winning, I spent hours researching & staring at the auction. I wouldn't be lying if I said I averaged 15 visits/day to the auction, with an average visit of 10 minutes each. I would simply stare & hope, stare & hope. Lather, rinse, repeat. I worried that it may be a joke or mistake, but if that was the case, the person would have surely noted it in the auction listing. I have very specialized eBay searches to seek out the auctions like this w/ only pictures & no game list, and while I have had good success finding many hard-to-find games this way, this is the pinnacle. I can never do better than this, but I truly hope I'm wrong. I'd love to keep this for myself, but it would be a damn shame. I've sold a majority of my collection, with basically a RomScanner, 6 game changer & this game as the last notable bits. I'll be dumping tons of other li'l "collections" like 18 Sears games, 15 Atari name label lots, complete systems & whatnot, but at this point, I'm done. I think.

Surprisingly, no. I loved this game as a child, but never knew about the contest at the time. It would have been right up my alley, as I had every Activision patch available. Still do, somewhere.
-
You are correct. My Atlantis II looks like the photos I've seen of other Atlantis II carts.

I think this registry needs updating. Introducing #12. So... what would you folks say this is worth anyways? More than $3?

I come before you today to ask for the forgiveness of this community. I hope many of you will understand, but I expect some will view me their archnemesis. This is my attempt to reach out first, now, early. When I returned to my Atari roots, I did so stumbling like a drunken buffalo going downhill. I didn't realize some of the treasures I had, and seriously abused systems into uselessness. As a result, I have learned many things. But for my past transgressions, based in ignorance, against all things Atari, I apologize. I began to lurk in these forums from time to time after using it more of a tool. While I have a love of the old beast, I quickly realized I am not as zealous as many here. Twice now in the past 5 years I have built a collection, only to decide within a year that it is yet another burden, another material item to tether me indoors, and sell it all off. It was Ataris that took me to eBay, and it is Ataris that have become my primary function of eBay. But I'm not a collector at heart, so I understand the venom held for those of us who use eBay to sell games for sometimes inflated prices. Many of the auction lots I've sold are ridiculously overpriced, at $2-3 per game for a system with 150 games. For possibly having a hand in inflating prices, I apologize. But I'm not doing that to make money. My true purpose will probably bring a tear to a few eyes, as hundreds of perfect label Atari games will be sacrificed - and many system cases - in my pursuit. The final number will probably be close to a thousand games forever lost from the gaming world, all in following an artistic vision I have. But if you can bear with me, and not pass judgement before seeing my final product (I get stopped EVERYWHERE because of it,) perhaps you will find a way to appreciate my efforts. For this tease and tech torture, I apologize. These transgressions may not be worthy of such a groveling post before this community. But I believe there is a very, very good chance the highest of all transgressions will be before me. I shall know in two days, and if I am so lucky, I am very sorry unto you all. My apologies, in advance. And a good day unto you.
