Wow, I lay in bed sick for a day and come back and this thread went to crap! Anyway, any new devs (Reboot) are always welcome in the Jag scene. Don't mind buddies -- he just didn't have his Happy Flakes this morning From what I understand, the Rev 2 skunks needed to be sold -- and quickly (which has been mentioned in this thread a couple times, I believe.) Announcements were made when there were still some available and no one wanted to see Tursi & KSkunk sitting there with oodles of unsold product that they worked so hard on. That unfortunately means some new devs to the scene don't have one, but that certainly doesn't mean you can't get one If I were you guys, I would ask if anyone wants to sell one or lend one out. One was already sold on EBay just a little bit ago as well, but I think it was in Europe and I don't know if you folks are located there or somewhere else. Personally, I wouldn't lend one out to anyone unless I trusted them, but I did buy two of the Rev 2s for that purpose -- lend out to future devs. I'm guessing others would be willing to as well, but it will just take some time and trust in the long run. I'm sure you understand -- you wouldn't want to lend something out to someone you don't really know well and have them run off with it In any case, don't give up. Don't give up on finding a couple more skunks if you need them, too. As far as BJL is concerned, it can be a temporary solution until your friends find something else, like a skunk or jag cf. People were using BJL & alpines before the skunks were available, so it's certainly possible

I am a little surprised there was enough room -- on the shells I've got the USB-A ports prevent a clean closure of the case. But as long as you aren't crushing them (risk of short circuit), it's all good! I thought he shaved the inside of the cart down a bit to fit the USB ports, but I could be wrong.
-
Yes, good call. Dotdotdot/reboot would appreciate that being from the wrong side of the hills. Actually, my cart label is a bit of a joke, everyone seems to like to make supercool cases & stickers & I was about to ttempt the same, but Promethea dared me to make a super-B-rated effort. I'll be making a proper label when I get the right kind of inspiration, but I'll be keeping the lions somewhere In fact though I might just make another case, Mr Morden has managed to case his with only a few tiny holes for the pins on the back, I'm quite jealous! But I do have a can of metallic red paint I could try... Hmm, paint. Good idea. I should have done that. I still don't have a label for my shell, but plan on coming up with something cool some time soon. I was going to try and just bore out the inside of the shell where the USB ports are, but not enough to go out the back, but I got impatient and just cut it out. I even had small holes drilled for the jtag header that fit, but alas, laziness got the better of me and from my recent "how lazy are you" quiz on facebook, 32% is just enough to thwart my big plans.

I for one am proud to see diversity reflected among Skunkboards. Your gay Skunkboard is as welcome on this forum as all the others. (...and sadly Tursi would not allow me to make a run of white Skunks. All the Rev 2s had to be black with white stripes, limiting Skunk diversity. ) - KS I guess it's true... once you go black...

Cheers for the advice, I'll do that & report back if I have any luck. I'm also going to try putting the chips in a snes dev cart & try backing them up with that to see what the files look like. I know, just because the chips fit the sockets doesn't mean they are the same type/size/etc, but I'm going to try at least PLEASE DO NOT DO THAT!!!!! If there is indeed anything on those, you can destroy them if voltage pins are incorrect. At very least look up the pinouts. Im not confident that they are pin compatible. Sheesh, yeah! You don't screw with stuff like that, lol.

Something that can be downloaded? Bought? How is this working? Beta testing.

Its 1993, you're in charge of the Jag, what do you do?
viMaster replied to A_Gorilla's topic in Atari Jaguar
People would have been just as disappointed with 16bit "looking" games on a 32bit platform -
It's great to see someone making good use of the Skunkboard. By the way, you shouldn't need DOSBox any more as long as you have Windows XP, because belboz posted an updated toolset that works with it!
-
But Im not an employee so that would not be proper, but I do appreciate the offer. Plus even if I wanted to I woul dnot have the money now anyway. I also need a new vid card as my ATI-9800 went to silicon heaven. Vid card first, OS next. By that time they might actually get Vista right...though I wont hold my breath. Why don't you just use belboz's XP dev setup?

That's retarted. Games don't make a system any "bits," it's the architecture. The Jaguar has a 64-bit architecture. End discussion. 'Nuff said. -
What Games On Other Systems Show The Jaguar's Power?
viMaster replied to A Sprite's topic in Atari Jaguar
It was a lot of reasons. I don't think Atari claiming it to be a "32-bit" system would have made a difference. It also would have been asinine -- it's a 64-bit architecture. Why would you market it as 32-bit when it's clearly 64-bit? Or maybe you're talking about scaling down the architecture itself to be a 32-bit one. But if that was the case, don't you think the games would have looked even worse? Granted, many are 16-bit ports anyway, but those that are above that probably would have been worse had they created a 32-bit architecture. Just my guess. It was the money problems, software problems, coding tool problems, marketing problems, etc, etc. -

Jaguar Sector II ... and more specifically, the wiki there at JS2. -
wow, what a nice friendly place the jaguar scene must be if their people talk like this about each other... Gorf, do you have a large metal key in the small of your back? You should check, you seem incredibly easy to wind up... Fair enough you can have a differing opinion & be confident in your knowledge, but to shout down from high about how 1337 you are, how all should bow before you & to start shouting orders like you are the lord & ruler of the jaguar scene, well, it's poor form. The Jag scene is very friendly until some troll who does little with the community comes along and acts like he's been a diehard coder and fan when clearly that is not the case. ...you seem like a nice guy....No key my friend just passion. Also, why no well deserved critique of CJ? He's the one who started this shit with his big mouth. this post would come across alot more reasonable on your part if you pointed the obvious out. Sure, tell CJ to stop being a dickhead and talking out of his ass. Tell him also that my concern about someone possibly having a copy of Gorf 2000 when they should not is valid and reasonable. also tell him that I corrected my self and realized they guy meant the free demo of Gorf classic. Clearly CJ cant deal with it. See gorf Classic CD. Already done thanks. Challenge already met...see Gorf Classic CD. I 'd rather not waste the very little time I have on Jag coding, coding less than stellar showcasing of the JAguar's power....my goal is to produce games that should have been durning the Jaguar's life. Updated 3D classics. See CJ likes to assume I have nothing better to do all day than code games on the Jaguar. My mommy does not pay my way through life while I sit in a basement milking her for everything I have. I have to like everyone else with a snese of decency work for a living. I also have many other systems to code for so time is limited. It may take me 6 years(actually 10 +) to complete something but you can bet it will be worth the wait. If I want simple 16 bit games I'll whip out the Genny or SNES. You know, Cj is probably a talented guy and when not behind a keyboard probably much easier to get along with. Same goes for me. It's easy to talk smack on a forum. I do it you do it we all do it. There is apopint of ridiculous that some peopel seem to have no problem crossing. If I were to do a game in the manner spoken, what would you suggest? Well gorf....perhaps you want to sue google or yahoo for allowing links to appear on their search engines for webpages offering games for download After all, have a look at your pc harddrive (or mac) or a cd rom of emulators you may have for a current gen gaming system...are you trying to tell me that you own 'physically' every game that you own an emulator version of....i.e (since this is a jaguar forum) AvP, Cybermorph, Crescent Galaxy, Defendewr 2000 etc And to cast my point further affield to non jaguar emulation, do you phsically own every game you have an emulator version of Fact is Gorf, if it wasn't for emulation and people using such things, the efforts of people like you would only be reaching a miniscule fraction of the jaguar market, it's because of emulation of platforms like the jaguar that have allowed the efforts of people like you to reach it's intended audience/market and not only that but for your efforts to be fully appreciated....not that i know how good gorf 2000 is as i can't see it (i.e doesn't run) But seeming as though you criticise me for downloading and using an emulator version of your game, lets reverse the situation, seeming as though your are inferring and implying that i am a pirate and i am depriving you of a sale (in this case gorf 2000) Are you trying to tell me you didn't accept a copied version of an Atari st or amiga or A8 or c64 game way back when, are you trying to tell me you didn't tape a television program and store it on video tape (way back when) or tape music from a radio station (when back when), surely if you accepted a copy of that c64/a8/st/amiga game or copied music from a radio station video'd a television program, surel;y you are depriving the original software/program maker or publisher and music/television broadcaster of a sale of that game or that telly program or music track that you now own a copy of...And remember, you used this thread to criticse me for downloading and using an emulator version of your game TRY LOOKING AT YOUR OWN ACTIONS (EVEN IN THE PAST) BEFORE YOU CRITICISE OTHER PEOPLE I have seen pics of Gorf's "coding dungeon..." I have a hard time believing he really needs any emulators. It looks like the systems he's interested in, he actually owns. As for Gorf Classic, is it the full game or just that old demo from way back? If you really want to play it, just find someone who wants to sell it and there ya go Just as a counter-argument, I don't believe Gorf ever mentioned your pirating of his Gorf Classic game as depriving him of a sale. The game is not for sale, but just to play devil's advocate, it's still stealing whether he would have gotten any money for it or not. Just sayin' The emulating scene of the Jaguar is pretty much null. No emulator works well enough to play the majority of the Jaguar games, so it's not really an issue. Emulation hasn't done anything for the Jaguar community, in my opinion. In the future, if improvements are made and compatibility is increased, then that's another story. At this moment, though, it's not really an issue. I also have no problem with authors protecting their software from running on emulators -- especially current homebrew developers. It's their choice. Even with the skunkboard, barriers were put in place to assure the security of future skunk-exclusive software developments and restrict them from running on unauthorized skunkboards

What Games On Other Systems Show The Jaguar's Power?

What do you mean? What is he doing with Doom? -
Hrm, well I had a comment regarding what I originally said about crappy tools and why there are few jag developers these days, but I guess I'll let it go. ... on another note, there's also the obvious fact that the fan pool from which we draw is so incredibly small compared to most other consoles that the number of developers is obviously going to be drastically lower. ... also, as far as the emulators, like virtual jaguar, from what I understand, they don't provide sufficient debugging to be useful enough. Maybe I'm wrong, but that's what I was told just the other day. In fact, I don't think anything right now provides sufficient debugging except the alpine and we all know those are rare, expensive and hard to come by.

It isn't about playing a game he wrote without permission, it's about having an unauthorized copy, which is strictly prohibited according to the usage rights of the game. Obviously, if it's the earlier "demo," then no harm done. Again, no one should be playing the full version of the game unless they own it. It's that simple. Again once again, if it's the demo, then no harm no foul. The Jag dev scene has slow growth, because the thing is hard to program for. The tools are getting better, but we're now upwards of 15 years after the Jag's release. The tools are now getting good enough for people to use without spending years learning how to program specifically for the Jag. ... 15 years! If these great tools had been available in the beginning, not only would we have more homebrew these days, but we'd have had more official retail releases. Some devs release source code, some don't. It's up to them. It's not about keeping secrets about how to program the Jaguar -- anyone can take programming classes or study books. You can even head over to JS2 where there is some coding help in the programming section, which Gorf also has made a lot of contributions. Some people simply want to protect their own work and there's nothing wrong with that.
-
Check out the JS2 wiki. There's a list somewhere in there of software that is compatible with it. Also, edit it with your own findings to see what works. That way we can all benefit from each others' experiences.

I haven't had any for sale for years, but the RFC's I used to sell at Songbird worked on Raiden and Zero 5 equally well. Made both games a lot easier on the thumb. What would it take to get those produced again?
-
No, keep it for yourselves... but just know, if you do... your life is over!
-
I know this is sort of off-topic, but there's some cool artwork over in the downloads section on JS2. Just sayin' Yes thats true...but we NEED more! I won't argue with that.

Out of curiosity, back when reservations were taken (yeah, it's been a while) why did you not question the absence of a confirmation e-mail? It was clearly stated that people would get a confirmation e-mail after filling in the correct information and submitting it. Personally, if I hadn't received one, I would have PMd Tursi within 48 hours to either confirm that it went through and request a 2nd confirmation e-mail get sent or find out it hadn't gone through and re-submit my reservation.

Yes I bought BS-Gold from a collector but did not get any CD with it. The JUGS Adaptor was included in the package and never opened... Could you give me their email adresses via PM for contacting them? Thanks a lot! Chris With out the The JUGS Adaptor the software won't do you any good. He said he got that, walter, lol. Put those glasses back on!
