  1. There is homebrew on the Jag. As far as the WADs for Jag Doom, there's something about it that restricts us from using them. I can't remember exactly what it is, but there's something. One of the coders around here *cough* Gorf *cough* should know.
  2. Without the box? There's no chance you'd even be able to come up with a replacement box for it. I say less than $175 as well, but that's from the collector's point of view. If you want to actually use it, then yeah, $175 is fine.
  3. Does it even come with a box? If not, it's certainly not worth $250. It's also not the Deluxe model, which makes it worth even less.

    Im back...

I have a couple images of Arkanna. It looked pretty cool. I think I put up a video of it on youtube... lemme check... ah yeah, I did video of all I could figure out to do with the demo hehe. I have that Zer0 title screen image as well. Is there something else to it? All I see is the cool logo being manipulated, but you mention you can move things around on the screen? Also, any insight into what can currently be done with the available Arkanna demo? Is there anything I missed? It would be awesome if you found something else we could check out on one of your old hard drives, but I'm sure it will take time to search through stuff, hehe. Regarding the Skunkboard, you need to put your name on the request list: http://www.atariage.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=137032 Welcome back! As for arkanna thats all that could really be done for the demo if i remember correctly. There might have been a little code at the main menu with a combo of pressing keys but i cant even remember anymore. as for Zer0 there was way more to it. it got pretty far and the buggy title screen was fixed. but i only released a demo of the title screen and then another of the title screen with options i believe and then it loaded into a very primative screen allowing you to move a small triangle sprite around on the screen and it had some collision detection stuff for borders as well as a scrolling background i believe. the later version (never released) was about 35-40 percent done which had some enemies and a nice layer background, some techno style music, it also had a transitioning point in the first level where it flipped to a top down view when you went into an asteriod field which took forever to code and make it a nice transition. was pretty fun. only had a 2 levels finished and a 3rd started, the 2nd wasn't totally finished but the first was complete. very crazy playing field with lots of on screen stuff. similar to native on the side scrolling part. had debris flying at the screen when things exploded, background was composed of multiple layers to simulate some depth to the game. the screen did get somewhat cluttered with stuff if alot of enemies were blown up on screen in a row. That later build of Zer0 sounds very intriguing. I'll have to see which earlier version I have. The only thing I remember is the logo on the screen, but it could also be that I have the other version somewhere in an archive. I'll dig through a bit and make sure I didn't miss anything.

  6. I fully agree. I had to go that way with the early versions of the Eerievale engine... it is hardly possible to develop a game that way. No matter how patient you are. Unless of course you don't need debugging or testing at all. Every slightest change of code took about 10-15 Minutes to verify and a wasted CDR when I had to go that way. Let alone the unrelieablity of the JagCD. It wasn't any fun at all and the results took forever. You are better of getting the cheapest notebook you can find on ebay. These days you can easily find cheap notebooks on ebay for like 100-200 euro for a centrino 1.5GHz or so. They may not be fast by todays standards, but fast enough for anything you need as a jag coder. Even a Pentium one would be fine. So really any notebook is a better choice. That is a much better way to go. I do have an old notebook, but its too old. It's a 200mhz Pentium Jetbook but has no USB ports. Can't add USB ports via a PCMCIA card since the thing has a 16bit bus and won't support 32bit PC Cards. Buying a used notebook on Ebay means another $200 above the $85, would be around $300 for me to develop. I don't want the Jag on my computer desk. There's no room and no inputs to attach the composite video/audio cable though my monitor. If I purchase a cheap XP-M notebook I might be able to make the excuse it's for my business but I could hardly make the argument that coding a Jag is business related. The USB memory stick would be a good option though. If you can figure out the space issue at your computer desk you could just pick up a used tv capture card off ebay and hook the jag into that and you can view it directly on your screen then.
  7. Yeah, they're expensive, but you can get aftermarket ones here: http://morethangames.a8maestro.com/prodgame/game-f1.htm
  8. I have an Samsung LE32N7 lcd tv, with all the connections: s-video, scart, rgb, composite, hdmi, vga, and... But is the RGB signal the same as the Jag's? I seem to remember there being a fundamental difference between the 2, which is why I never tried hooking my Jag (with scatbox) up to my lcd.
  9. Or maybe it was just planned for the Panther on paper alone and never really made it to any sort of development stage. Maybe it was just the idea of a morphing ship flying around and then when they decided to go with the Jaguar they actually designed the game at that point.
  10. Well that's all we need, someone like Shawn Sr. who enjoys the chaos. But I'm with ls650... talk is cheap and we've heard a lot of talk coming from over there regarding a few things. "Pfft" indeed!
  11. I searched the closed listings... It went for $400 + a ridiculous $35 shipping charge. Oh no! Hehe, I think I know who it was, but let's not rag on him/her for it. It's ok whoever you are... it's Flashball's fault lol.
  12. Frankly, it won't. Your post was in no way offensive. Even if it were negative, their minds are made up regarding a re-release of Battlesphere. I'm almost certain of that. Whatever CC intended in his post, the idea of someone making repros would not come across favorably with Doug and understandably. Authorized version, yes but those I would'nt hold my breath for. I think if conditions are right, you may see BS for a price well with in the range of sanity by Scatologic. They like it less that people are making a killing off of something they pretty much gave away to charity. They have plenty of reason to be weary and careful considering the work involved. The code in BS is rather revolutionary in many ways for that time and it is no wonder Scott would rather it not get copied or examined. I can't blame either one of them if they never release it again quite frankly. No no, I agree with you mostly. It's just that he was simply asking the question if someone was doing it or not. He obviously isn't doing it and I know of no one else who is doing it, so I don't think it was a harmful question. I don't think Doug or Scott should take any offense to it as it was simply a question from someone who doesn't frequent the Jag scene or know much about its past. It was an innocent question. Now, if someone came in here and proclaimed to be making repros or planning on doing so, then yeah, I would be all over that too, Gorf. You know I respect you and the Scatalogic folk, so I'm not trying to be argumentative. It would be a sweet sweet surprise if something happened in the future and they decided to do another run or even have someone else do authorized[/b] repros. I won't hold my breath, as you say, but it would be a great day to be a Jaguar fan
  13. I hear you, I'll check it out. I don't want you to get the wrong idea, I don't want you to have to constantly search for answers for noobs that don't have a clue. I just really don't follow the Jag very closely, I didn't know it was this sensitive of an issue. I don't get a lot of internet time and I just figured at a forum where I have well over 5000 posts I would have some friends who could help me out with this stuff. I guess I don't spend enough time in the Jag section so I get the noob treatment, Thats fine I guess. I'll start reading topics and research Battlesphere so I don't bother you anymore Sorry for any inconvienence guys. It's all good. You shouldn't be getting the noob treatment anyway. Battlesphere has been a sensitive issue, but come on, I think people should just get over it. From your posts, I haven't detected any hints that you are being negative or argumentative in any way. I got the impression you really want to learn about it. I highly doubt there will be a re-release of Battlesphere. I think the authors are very turned off from releasing anything else for the Jaguar. I'm certain it's because of criticism they received with the release and a few other things. Personalities clashed big time and I think a lot of things were blown out of proportion. I'm also certain they wouldn't authorize a re-release from someone else, like a repro. I know they've said one reason is a repro wouldn't live up to their standards of quality. I'm sure there are other reasons, but that's one I really don't think anything anyone says or does will change their minds at this point. For all the criticism, they've also received A LOT of praise for their work. Personally, I love the game and am fortunate I was able to secure a copy of the gold edition for the discount price of $250 In conclusion, I think you should be free to ask questions and get answers. I will answer to the best of my ability. Nothing you've posted has seemed negative to me. Let me address this, though: Frankly, it won't. Your post was in no way offensive. Even if it were negative, their minds are made up regarding a re-release of Battlesphere. I'm almost certain of that.
  14. Cybermorph blew me away WAY more than SMB did for the NES I played it and thought I had died and gone to polygon heaven. Come on, up until that point what other polygon shooters were there on home consoles? Star Fox? Pfft! It was on rails. You are free to roam about in Cybermorph. Looking back now, yeah, it's obviously not the best game in the world, but you have to think of pack-in games how they were when they were actually... packed in! Everyone I knew was incredibly impressed with what Cybermorph did when the Jaguar was released. Obviously, the novelty wore off as the Jaguar didn't get enough great games for various reasons. But I still think to myself this day how amazing that game was when the system was released.
  15. When I started collecting for the Jag, I told myself I would NEVER pay that much for a game... EVER. Well, I've actually had my Jaguar since it was released, but only really started collecting maybe 3 years ago. A year ago or so, someone wanted to sell a copy of Battlesphere Gold and even though I said I'd never do it, I did. Here's the thing. Think of most every other Jaguar game out there. The gameplay is fairly one-dimensional, meaning there's really only one way to play it. There are exceptions, of course, like the 2K series have different version of the game, which is cool. Games like Raiden, even though it's a fantastic shooter, only have one way to play them -- one mode of game play. Some of the games that have different modes still suck, so there's no use it really doing anything else with them. Battlesphere not only has the networkable aspect (which most people won't get to experience anyway) but it has 3 basic modes of play: Alone Against the Empire, Gauntlet and Free-For-All. There's also Pilot Training, but I look at that as... well... training. Each of those 3 are fairly unique, too. Your tactics have to change with each one. I'm just recently getting into Alone Against the Empire and after actually reading the manual, I get how to play it now and it's fun.
  16. I'm not sure what you mean by this, but it does mean that CD developers can use the Skunkboard debugging mechanisms (upload code, printf, console, GDB visual debugging). - KS i guess what I really mean is can you burn some demos and protos or whatever onto CD and upload them to the Skunkboard? Oh, you mean use the Jag CD as sort of a mass-storage device. I'm pretty sure that's not supported. It's just that the first run of Skunkboards had an issue with functioning while being plugged into the Jag CD unit. Now they've fixed that.
  17. Even if it doesn't turn out to be Dragon, I'm gonna play that right now. Ok, I played this for 20 mins in story mode on the easiest difficulty and the 3rd guy I got to wouldn't die. I got his meter bar all the way empty and no hits after that would defeat him. I'm not sure if it's a bug in the game, but if someone else could play it and let me know, it would be helpful. If you can't even get that far in the game, then the thing is seriously flawed. I don't know if I can even bring myself to play it again. Oh, and the score...
  18. Cool stuff! I'd like to know what everyone else has as well... My Ghetto-Jag is a K series, in plant 1 (whatever that means) and was produced 1993 in the month of December. The series number is 008294 So, K13C008294 My other jag is M24B017605 I have one more jag, but I'd have to go look for it in storage. It's fried.
  19. This tool is a another "go along with the Jaghaters crowd" biased short-bus moron who hates Atari but still f---ing wants the Jaguar Briefcase bag with the large logo on the side. And I can't post comments on his page :-/
  20. If you like the Jag version then the PC version will really knock your socks off. There are a lot of things that were dropped for the Jag version that will be resurrected this time around. Mario Ok, now you've peaked our interest! Are there a couple things you wouldn't mind telling us that were scrapped from the Jag version? It would be very interesting to know a little more about the development side of the game.
  21. The Jag CD support will hopefully be able to be flashed to the rev 1s, so at least that feature can still be handled on the older ones. Other than that, the 8 MB of memory will be nice, but I think if you stick with Rev 1 you'll still be ok, Atari_Owl If something happens with a future BIOS of the Rev 2 skunkboard that can't be done on Rev 1, I'm sure some of those who buy more than 1 board wouldn't mind lending it out to a real developer like yourself.
  22. Mmmm I see. I wish I had an active link to that guy's old auction, but I don't. That would have given a better clue about the "original" packaging.
  23. Indeed. And that is money they would have to put up out of pocket up front.
