Complete my PAL Dreamcast collection, 100 down 117 to go... Also want to play more games, I've been collecting hard recently and haven't been playing them due to lack of time.
-
Nobody's mentioned Viewtiful Joe yet, probably the newest addition to hardcore classics.
Seems to be a lot of love of Mr Driller, which visualy is stunning, but is it as good as Bust-A-Move 4?
Oh, also need to chuck in Skies of Arcadia. Probably the longest game I've ever played (and super tough).
-
If you want a memory card to mess about with I have a new one (sealed) that you can have for cheap or a trade? I'd just want a DC game for it or something.
-
Okay here we go, we all love Top 5 lists and I decided that recently I've been playing a lot of games you'd class only for the hardcore - maybe a lot of you don't like the term, but what I mean by this is the sort of game that has been shunned by the mainstream of gaming for whatever reason, but has been found and cherished by the likes of people that spend there free time to talk about games on the internet (us, right?)
1 - Rez
The best game on arguably the best console ever (okay, I am a fanboy). Looking to track down the PS2 versions and the trance vibrator for my girlfriend...
2 - Gunstar Heores
By and far Treasures best game to date, although I'm sure some will argue Radiant... but hey, that's no Layer Section, huh? BTW anyone played the Game Gear or Master System version of this? How does it hold up?
3 - Samba de Amigo
The king of all rhythm games. Great idea, brilliantly executed. Just a shame that it's so damn hard to pick up.
4 - Metal Slug X
I know a lot of Neo Geo heads swear that 3 is the best, but I think this stands out more as a classic.
5 - Street Fighter 3 Alpha / Zero
A lot of people dissed the Alpha series for moving away from the standard Street Fighter look and aiming for a more Anime look, but I have to say that it's my favorite of the era. The GBA version stands up too, probably one of the most accomplished games on the system. Shame about Crawfish though...
I guess that there are many glaring omissions (Secret of Mana, Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy Tactics, DDR, King of Fighters etc), but there are only 5 places.
What's in your top 5?

I've just got a new clear green case for my DC from Lik-Sang and was looking for a - preferabley offical - clear green controller (and VMU) or arcade stick.
I'd be willing to pay / trade quite well for one. I would also consider other clear offical stuff if you have it.
Many thanks
Will
P.S. if anyone knows of any websites that sell these that would be brilliant too.

It is coming out in Europe for sure, I knew about this months ago. I am not aware of a US release but it is sure to happen as it is the biggest market for sales. Our store has it on it's release list, BUT, I would say don't believe it until you see it. You know how crap Nintendo of Europe are... just look at all the shit caused about Animal Crossing!
I'm gonna give it 3 months and if it's not here then I'll grab an import version. It was only this and AC I bought the Cube for.
I waited long enough for Metal Slug X on PSX.

I think that'd you'll find that the $10,000 is more a licences fee. Could you imagine Microsoft telling EA that if they wanted another dev kit for FIFA 2005 they'd have to pay again? I don't think so...
-
They don't actually cost jack. At least most of the time, because hardware manufacturers give dev kits to developers (you can be sure as shit EA don't pay a bean), but they are well protected because obviously hardware manufacturers don't want your average Joe getting hold of one and running off mutilple copies of games or snopping to what the machine is internally or writing unlicenced programmes etc.
I know the Dreamcast dev kits had GD-R drives (Katana?), and were basically a PC that allowed you to run a programme straight in to the DC (although you can with a normal PC anyways). Maybe Albert would know more about it than me.
You can get a PC hook-up for the X-Box, flash the bios and start using it to run programmes from the hard-drive. There are even (illegaly stolen) dev libaries for the X-Box floating about.

A company never has to sell at the sticker price, no matter where you live, it's a common myth. In fact if a shop doesn't want to serve you, for no reason at all, it can as you're on their property.
You guys all seem to be taking a moralic high-ground here. I'm not even going to mention some of the stuff I've done to get stuff cheap in the past...
-
legally speaking, they HAVE to sell it for the sticker price. Not actually true. Anything priced is an 'offer' for you to buy something and it isn't until you pay for the games that the price is set. However, it is good customer service to do so, which is why a lot of places do it. Otherwise anyone could go anywhere and just swap price stickers around.
More often then not when I was working for EB / Game things would be over-priced and when you went to the till it would be cheaper, which was more common than the other way around. Got myself some good bargains like that.

The first run of Ridge Racer 4 came in this type of case (with demo) and probably some others. Later on they started using the GT2 style cases with the other disc on the top half of the jewel case.

G&W Turtle Bridge (boxed good condition)

X-Box AV / S-Video cable / Mem Card (new)
Jag Troy Aikman Footbal (sealed and new)
Load of Speccy tapes

After DC games, PM me

The amount of time it took me to get an A licence on the second! Damn!
-
Most games will recognise that your Card is fecked and will format it for you. Otherwise phone the Sony Hardware Helpline which is in the back of all games.
You can get a Dex Drive for PS2, lik-sang have them, but you can't get multi-format PS2 cards, so you have no need to worry about that.
-
Weren't there some games that LANed through the broadband adaptor? And how about connecting up the system link? Can't you use the PC->DC link through something like this?
-
DeV0 is getting me a PAL copy of Animal Crossing pretty soon. I can't wait as I've only just got my Cube.
Tony Hawks seems to be the one that has me hooked, mainly just because you can just piss-ass about on it for hours. Games that take 'completing' bore me, that's why I really got in to 2D fighters. I have less of an attention span now than when I was a bit younger.
-
So, are there actually any people on there? And do you need to connect to someones server? Sorry, I'm a bit dumb when it comes to networking and broadband etc...
I just want to be able to plug-in and see people ready to play, not having to piss about with putting in IP addresses and shit and finding out when people are available.
Oh, and is there something similare for the DC?
-
Gran Turismo? IIRC
-
-
Yep. Also, if you save in 60Hz mode you can only use the save on a 60Hz TV, which is awful.
You don't have to have your Shemnue I save for II, but it is pretty cool. You can also download a new completed Shenmue I save which would be pretty maxed out.
-
Thought the controls were a lot better than Golden Eye. Liked the game a lot, especially the first level.
Get a mate round and play co-op mode and then see if you still hate it!
-
It's also the same as the Gamecube one, so you'll be able to pick one up at a current retailer like EB.

As for console prices, I don't know whether or not you factored in the(very large) development costs for the systems. Even if Nintendo sold
the N64 at a break-even cost for the hardware, I was under the
impression that that generation contributed to a period of rather poor
financial performance for Nintendo. When you get the chance, please
enlighten me if I am mistaken.
Nearly all modern consoles are sold at a loss, this allows the company (MS, Sony or Ninty etc) to get as many installed units as possible (consoles in the homes). The money in the industry is made through the games themselves (with the exception of the 3DO, which was a licensed machine, but I'm digressing). Basically, your average gamer will buy around 4-15 games in the lifespan of a console at around £40 ($90-100 US), so you're looking at around double the price of the console minimum.
Although production is very costly on games, to actually make them isn't. So the money you pay on a game goes almost exclusively profit. Very few games make a loss. In fact the videogames industry makes more money than Hollywood every year because production cost are much more balanced with the return. Only 1 out of 5 movies with actually do more than break-even.

My guess is PS2 keeping the lead, XBOX theminority market share 2nd, and GameCube sadly going the way of the
Dreamcast some day
I know I really shouldn't get in to this... but....
Working for GAME (EB for the UK), I see that that the Cube has had a bit of a turn around of late, mainly due to Mario Kart, but don't be so quick to dismiss the console, yet. Last Friday (MK:DD release day) I sold about 5 Cubes to every PS2 and now it seems to have stabalised and were selling slightly less of them than PS2, but more than X-Box.
People seem to think that there isn't room for 3 consoles right now, but you need to remeber that we haven't ever had a market as competetive as right now. PS2 maybe the market leader right now, but it's oldest and most expensive console, the X-Box appeals mainly to the PC Geek / FPS fan / or Microsoft lover (leaving everyone else alienated, where are the RPGs and Platformers?) whereas the Cube has the appeal to the female / child group (sorry to generalise) and the hardcore (most of the games that would have probably only seen light of day on a Sega machine i.e. Ikargua, Viewtiful Joe, Monkey Ball etc etc are now on the GC).
Also some more notes to think about; Final Fantasy exculsive, Resident Evil exclusive, Pokemon exclusive, the GC breaks even on each sell (X-Box doesn't), price drop to make it by far the cheapest console and the strength of the GBA...
Oh and one more point; just remeber that the PSX pissed all over the N64 in terms of sells, but Ninty still did okay out of it themselves simple due to the fact that they will not sell hardware at a discounted rate just to boost sells, this means all they do is make profit affording to keep themselves in the makret.
I knew I shouldn't have gotten in to...

Finally took my Dreamcast online

Some games like Chu Chu Rocket or Worms World Party dial up to a set number, PSO Version 1 does this, however Vers 2 came with Dreamkey 3 that allowed you to dial up to your own ISP, I don't know if the servers for this are still up and running though. I'll check it out now.
