  1. What I find particularly interesting about Jinks is the opening screen. The one with the voices. Welcome! *Boioing!* You can't catch me! Yeow! Why on earth would the Atari people have put Gauntlet sounds into this game if the sounds weren't already available on the 7800 development systems? There's got to be a 7800 Gauntlet prototype hiding out somewhere...

Androids do not need girls! No wait, not androids. What's the word. . . Computer science majors! That's it. And "need" isn't the right word either. "Get!" That's the one. Suddenly a lot of things make more sense.
  3. You could always rig up a control panel with a pair of Arkanoid style spinners and play the game Etch a Sketch style. Reaching for the fire button might be interesting, though.
  4. Thanks! I'm glad you liked it, and got it working. Now you should check out some other table sites, because there are tons of other tables to play.
  5. Well, well, second revisions sure do come early these days. Right after reading your post, I had a stroke of intuition, and implemented the center post. I'm not sure how well it will work, so any comments on its effectiveness would be appreciated. I also added the LED font to the archive for those who may not have it. The file is at the same URL, so if you have the first revision, just redownload from the same address.
  6. If I can figure out a decent way of making it work, I will. My reasons for omitting it are in the included text file under Known Issues. There's got to be a good way of making it work accurately, but it hasn't come to me yet.
  7. Hmm, "a few days" came earlier than I expected. The table's ready. Come and get it from http://river.it.gvsu.edu/~brittedg/MidnightMagic.zip Tell me if there are any bugs that I haven't seen yet.
  8. Okay, I've made a self extracting version of the archive for anyone who needs it. http://river.it.gvsu.edu/~brittedg/Midnigh...ghtMagicSFX.exe It will unpack itself into the necessary files. Don't forget to get Visual Pinball Dogfood Build 5 from http://www.randydavis.com/vp so you can play this table, as well as many others. This table will NOT run without it.
  9. I stumbled across the level skip trick in 2600 Frontline. In case you haven't seen it, start the game, and press left and right simultaneously. Your character will turn into a hot air balloon (I have no idea why; I didn't program it.) Get shot, and immediately afterward, press fire. You'll instantly finish the level and collect the end of level bonus. You can rack up crazy scores like this.
  10. If you love electronic pinball, then try out some of the other tables available for Visual Pinball. There's a bunch of user created tables available here: http://www.hippie.net/shivasite/irpinball/ In fact, I'm playing some tables I got from there right now.
  11. Yeah, it's almost EXACTLY the same as the 2600 version. I recorded sound effects directly from the game and matched everything up to a playfield graphic. I'll probably get bored sometime tomorrow and try to record the two sounds I need. I'm not very good at the game, actually, so I thought I would give a more skilled player a chance to get them first, so I don't drive myself crazy draining balls.
  12. I know, I screwed up the upload, but I JUST fixed it.
  13. Have a look at the screenshot. http://river.it.gvsu.edu/~brittedg/MidnightMagic.jpg It should be finished within the next few days. In the meantime, go to http://www.randydavis.com/vp and download the fabulous Visual Pinball so you'll be ready for the release. Make sure you get Visual Pinball Dogfood Build 5, because this table takes advantage of some of its new features. By the way, if you would like to help speed up the release, send me HIGH QUALITY audio samples of the "Can Can" music (all drop targets hit,) and the the music for winning an extra ball. I'll post another message when I get them so I don't get mailbombed with Midnight Magic sound effects. :-) UPDATE: The released version is ready. I've added the download link to this post to make it easily accessible. http://river.it.gvsu.edu/~brittedg/MidnightMagic.zip [ 12-22-2001: Message edited by: David Britten ]
  14. Hey Stan, isn't it possible to (temporarily) destroy the homing missile? I seem to remember playing the game with my cousin many years ago, and we found that it could be removed for a little while if you hit it with the cannon. It was always a little tricky to set up the shot. Of course, this might have only been in a certain game variation.
  15. I once had a card table set up in front of a television set. I was using this configuration to do stuff with Mario Paint. Sure enough, my cat jumped up on the table, and started attacking the little hand shaped mouse pointer. This cat also enjoyed watching the printhead move back and forth on our old HP 500 series inkjet printer.
  16. Screen shots wouldn't be too interesting. How many variations of two squares can you have? :-) Emulator save states might be a good idea, though.
  17. Those are pretty decent. It's always entertaining to see what can be done with such a limited platform. I dug up that big text file full of programs, and you can get it here: http://river.it.gvsu.edu/~brittedg/BasicPr...Programming.txt The sidescroller I was referring to is called Pitfall II. It uses some insane trickery just to get the thing running, but it's worth it to watch it in action. There's some other neat games in there as well. Donkey Kong Jr. is a good one. I never could get Kangaroo to work, though. Maybe I'll have another stab at it today.
  18. The baseball bat is for disposing of that old, crappy switch box, right? I highly recommend this connection method, too. In fact, I even added a coaxial A/B switch box to my setup, so toggling between television and Atari is easier and more reliable than ever.
  19. AGGHH! Stop me before I code again! This is basically Kaboom, mirrored vertically, with a RANDOMLY positioned target. You'll get 30 targets before it repeats. Press the number keys to move the "bucket" into the corresponding position. 1 Hor1{Hor1 x 3 + 5 Mod 31 2 Ver1{60 3 Ver1{Ver1-15 4 If Hit Then Note{7 5 Hor2{Key x 2 6 Goto If Ver1 Then 3 Else 1 On a side note, I once made a simple side scrolling game that involved running to the right side of the screen while jumping over a moving object. If you got hit you had to start over. I'll try to find a copy of it or recreate it from memory. But I'm going to bed now. Really.
  20. Alright, one more before I go to bed. Once again, '{' is the Left Arrow/Store key. 1 Note{N 2 N{N+If N Then 99 Else 2 3 Note{Note 4 If P Then Else N{N+2 5 P{Note 6 If P-N+2 Then Goto 1 It's not really a utility or a game, but it's damned impressive nonetheless. At least it better be impressive, after I wasted an hour of my life writing and perfecting it. He he.
  21. Foolish mortals! You dare invoke the power of the CS major! Okay, here's my current entry: ('{' is the Left Arrow/Store key) 1 S{9 2 M{31 3 I{5 4 F{3 5 S{(FxS+I) Mod M 6 Hor1{S 7 Goto 5 Can you tell what it is? That's right, it's a pseudo random number generator. Of course, you can't generate a very good sequence on a machine whose only data type is an integer ranging from 0 to 99. Still, with these parameters, I got a sequence of 30 non-repeating "random" numbers. Not bad for 63 bytes of work space. And if you're really confused about the purpose of line 6, I just threw that in there so I could watch the box jump around randomly. Now I'll have to start work on a Mandelbrot generator. Hey, put down that straight jacket. I've also written a boatload of simple little games in the past. I'll have to dig up the text file and see what's in there.
  22. If it's a duplicate made by someone like Hozer Video, then it's value is only equal to it's gameplay. If you've got an original prototype from the company, then basically the price would get so high on ebay that your head would spin. As for playing the game, I seem to remember that if you keep going south, and wander around a bit, you'll come to something out of the ordinary that you're supposed to find. Maybe it was a girl or something. I haven't played it in a while.
  23. It's definitely a fun game, and it has pretty decent graphics for the 2600. However, I would have to say that Dragonstomper for the Supercharger is much more complex. The graphics are a little bit simplistic, but there's a lot to it in terms of gameplay.
  24. You know, you aren't the first to wonder about this. My cousin and I have tried to figure it out for years. Is the rightmost one a pinball machine, or am I thinking of a different movie? I'll have to pull out my copy and watch it again.

    Pain Games

The worst sore wrist I ever got was from a game of arcade Galaga. I think I was rapid firing a little too fast. Oh well. I think I got a pretty good score.
