Been living in the desert for over 30 years. Today I found out just how bad a scorpion sting hurts.

  I live near scorpions, black widows, rattlesnakes, coyotes, etc. That's the desert southwest for you.

  Having hiked in the neighborhood of 1000 miles on the desert trails, I've only seen one tarantuala. They're not too common around here.
  
  Oh, and gila monsters can be pretty nasty, too. I don't mess with them.

  I haven't seen a wild gila monster, thank goodness. I HAVE seen a vinegaroon, which is the scorpion all the other scorpions laugh at.
