  1. Can't believe I found an Odyssey 2 with a couple of uncommon games at Goodwill for $5.

Wow..the only thing our Goodwill gets are old [email protected] tvs, used beds, and 90's era PC accessories. Nice score!

  2. Turkey's in the brine getting ready for its big day.

    1. Tickled_Pink

      Tickled_Pink

It's big day's already been. Can't say he was too happy about it.

    2. The Usotsuki

      The Usotsuki

      Brining turkey, there's something I haven't heard of before. o.o;

    3. BigO

      BigO

It's a bit of a hassle, but makes for a moist, flavorful turkey. Salt=flavor. :)

  3. Trak-Ball project up and running. Now have to adjust the 5200 so I can play some games on it.

  4. The recent trackball hacks for 2600 games are interesting. I don't like targeting games that use the joystick. But with the trackball I find I'm enjoying Colony 7. It's almost nothing but targeting. I've played the heck out of Centipede and could barely stand to play it with the joystick.

    1. BigO

      BigO

I'll probably buy the Colony 7 homebrew if released in a TB version.

  5. When you're using a $500 drill press to salvage a $5 phone holster and realize, hey I just got 1% of my purchase price back...

    1. save2600

      save2600

Awesome tool to have on hand at any given moment though! Lots and lots of uses you'll find for it if you haven't already. ;-)

  6. Okay, oh-so-helpful-Google, "manual" is not anything like an acceptable substitute for "schematic". Stop trying to convince me they're the same. Bolding the word "manual" in the results doesn't fool me.

    1. Random Terrain

      Random Terrain

Google is getting so bad now that I have to put just about every word quotes or it will give me stuff I'm not searching for.

    2. NE146

      NE146

You can try doing a Verbatim search (under "search tools" -> click "all results", and change to "verbatim") but even then that's a crapshoot

    3. AceHart

      AceHart

Uggh. I have the same problem - and I have to look for schematics professionally, not just for the hobby.

  7. Backing a Kickstarter for the first time. A) it's someone I personally know, B)I know his skillset and experience and fully believe he can bring the product to market

    1. BigO

      BigO

      Yeah, I'm at $20 on this. I won't starve if I lose $20. :)

    2. BigO

      BigO

This is his first shot at Kickstarter and I don't think he's going to make his funding. Brilliant inventor, but new to the KS thing.

  8. Been living in the desert for over 30 years. Today I found out just how bad a scorpion sting hurts.

    1. BigO

      BigO

I've only seen a couple of gila monsters in the wild.

    2. TheObscureGamer

      TheObscureGamer

Have you been bitten by a Bullet Ant before. Heard it stings just like a real bullet.

    3. BigO

      BigO

Based on that description, I'll stick to scorpions.

The funny thing is that it's popular in Germany back in the 90's.

      No, it's a promise ;)

      Bryan

My estate planning went really well. I'm going to have a big fence, a hedge up front. Maybe some topiaries...

    3. BigO

      BigO

Bryan, I don't quite have that much of an estate.

My retro video game collection and Roy Clark pinball machine make up the biggest part of it. :)

  11. Crisis averted. Pinball machine repair appears to be holding.

  12. How do I know I'm getting old? I was eating breakfast this morning and thought to myself, "There are too many marshmallows in these Lucky Charms."

    1. BydoEmpire

      BydoEmpire

How about oatmeal with no sugar or syrup on top? I'm old.

    2. atari2600land

      atari2600land

Gee, I was thinking how nice it would be if they made an all-marshmallow cereal.

    3. Atarian7

      Atarian7

@Bydo Doesn't that taste like cardboard? When I have oatmeal I put brown sugar and cinnamon in it.

  13. Makes no sense to me: selling an old Telstar Arcade console on eBay as untested, but offering a two year SquareTrade Warranty for 34.99.

    1. save2600

      save2600

That's ePay for 'ya! And sure… backed by the power of ScamPal, I'm sure there's chimps getting duped every which way but loose on those "square trade" deals. blech

    2. BigO

      BigO

I have purchased SquareTrade warranties through Costco and been satisfied with the value. Of course, those weren't obvious scams.

  14. That game was obviously rigged. I'm stating outright, here and now, next year I will not be watching the Puppy Bowl again.

    1. BigO

      BigO

I never have watched football. My wife was watching the Puppy Bowl and it was beyond stupid to me. Maybe I'll invite you to a Nothing Bowl party at my house next year.

    2. Nathan Strum

      Nathan Strum

You should copyright "Nothing Bowl" before someone snaps that up. Probably NCAA football. They have a bowl named after everything else.

    3. BigO

      BigO

With a nod to the Spanish speaking crowd, I'm leaning toward "Nada Bowl". It still says nothing. And, I like the "Not A Bowl Game" pun it makes available. :)

  16. I think it's weird that I'm bothered when people on this site don't put their location on their profile.

    1. BigO

      BigO

I think it's weird that you think it's weird that I admit I think it's weird.

    2. BigO

      BigO

      How weird is that?

    3. atari2600land

      atari2600land

I am bothered when people put goofy locations on their profile, e.g. "Here."

  18. $80 BIN on eBay for an untested, assumed broken RCA Studio II? That price can't be close to reality.

    1. BigO

      BigO

Really? I think it's time to dig mine out and sell it then.

    2. BassGuitari

      BassGuitari

Uh, yeah it is. A loose Studio II wouldn't be worth that much working. Hell, I paid $50 for mine with a half-dozen CIB games only a couple years ago.

    3. BigO

      BigO

Oh, great. Thanks for blowing the deal. I was going to offer to sell my working one with three CIB games to Keatah for $80. ;-)

  19. Space Rocks. But, Magna-mines suck.

    1. BigO

      BigO

Yeah, but I like to power up and push start. :-D

Probably a good share of the reason I don't do any "modern gaming". Don't like boot screens, don't like cut scenes. Destined to live in a 2600 world, I guess. :)

    2. Albert

      Albert

There's much to be said for the simplicity of the 2600 gaming experience.

    3. BigO

      BigO

I'm definitely in the "pick up, play, put down, walk away" demographic.

Break time = Atari for me!

    2. BigO

      BigO

Yeah, depends on my mood. The gaming TV is next to the pinball machine about 5 feet behind me while I'm working.

  24. Bad thing about a real pinball machine...can't just turn the volume down and play while other people are trying to sleep.

    1. BigO

      BigO

That's not to say that I'd rather play a virtual machine by any means.

  25. Finally got a chance to test the Power Glove for NES. It works. I guess it works as well as any Power Glove ever worked.

    1. BigO

      BigO

I was pretty close to the TV and still found that a slight movement triggered L,R,U,D actions. I suppose the dimensions were driven by common screen sizes at the time.

      retrorussell

You forgot.. THE POWER GLOVE!!! Hahahahahaha!!! (Freddy)

    3. BigO

      BigO

I didn't know that reference. But, it's fitting given that the thing is a bit of a nightmare.
